2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The processor runs great, I use this laptop for AutoCAD, Revit and 3D Modeling and it hardly has any lag or stutter problems in them.

The look of the laptop is very sleek and modern.

The 1080p resolution makes text crisp and easy to read and you can have more windows open at a time.

The CD-DVD drive in an Ultabook is also welcome.

The keyboard Backlight is wonderful, it goes off after 10 seconds of not pressing any keys and stays off if you are only using the mouse until you press a key. it can also be set to stay on when plugged in.

The touch screen is very responsive and Sony comes out with updates quite often for most problems.

The laptop also comes with a multitude of Sony software pre installed

Cons: The touch pad is small and because it is the same texture as the palm rest more often than not i find my fingers drifting of off it. The touch pad also supports multi touch, but unlike the touch screen it is not as responsive. There have been many times That the 2 finger scrolling has not worked, the pinch to zoom is the same and so is using 2 fingers to right click, it does it so often i find i just single click in the right lower corner of the pad.

The viewing angles are awful, if someone is sitting next to you they will not be able to see the screen properly, as a student this has plagued me many a time while in the library with a group. The reflection of the screen is also very bad, i had to get an anti glare screen protector which helped slightly.

it is also a bit heavy, but if u have a bag with a handle you should be fine

The laptop does not run very hot, mine runs between 45-60 degrees C and the max temperature is 105C, But yet the fan seems to come on quite often though and it is very loud, loud enough for it to be the only computer in a library that is being heard.

the keyboard is your standard chicklet keyboard, but the travel time is very short so i find i make a lot of miss presses.

What made me give this laptop such a low rating was the battery life, it is just downright atrocious, i get 4h30mins at most in power saver mode and wifi and bluetooth off. When in balanced mode i get around 2h30mins - 3hours with light use, internet browsing, typing word documents etc. and if i actually decide to do any actual work in performance mode i get only about 1hour - 1h30mins. i bought a laptop for mobility i expect at least 4 hours out of it with standard use with wifi.

Other Thoughts: Bought the laptop in Jan 2013.
I should also note, if you leave this laptop in sleep mode over night at 100% battery, it will be about 20% in the morning. I would definitely not recommend this laptop to a person that needs a mobile machine. The laptop isn't bad if you don't mind looking for an outlet where ever you go

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Looks: The style is sleek, backlighting on the keyboard is a good touch (The lights will dim down when not in use, and softly light back up when used- no flashing involved) and useful during nighttime, the screen is vibrant and at 15.5 inches it allows a great view. When it's closed and enters sleep mode the lights turn completely, although it may take a few seconds for them to shut off. Overall I'm happy with it's appearance. The only detail that's bothersome is all the fingerprints-but their easy to wipe off.

Speed: Windows 8 runs unbelievably smooth, the intel core i7 processor ensures the overall speed while running games, videos and a few downloads in the background all at once (I've tested it myself). Also, switching between videos, games, apps, email, etc.. is extremely easy and useful for anyone like myself who might remember they had to do something important online even though their playing a game... Pause the game, switch to Google Chrome/Internet Explorer/Firefox, finish what you had to do, go back to gaming - No problem.

Battery Life: I've spent about 8-9 hours at a time online/gaming or even reading an ebook while off the charger. With brightness maxxed and visuals at their best it managed to last a long time before it needed to be charged again.

Sound: The quality is clear and sounds great when it's at 2 or 20. Or in my case 30..

CD/DVD/Burner: Extremely hard to find this drive on an Ultrabook for under $1,500, I find it very useful.

Swipe registering: The touchscreen and touchpad alike can read swipe commands which are all programmable to fit your specific use.

Touch: Although the touchpad can be abit sensitive, you can go into settings and increase or decrease sensitivity to fit your strength. It was quite frustrating at first when I was clicking on everything but after lowering the sensitivity it's much better. The touchscreen is very responsive to swipe motions and pinching/expanding or even rotating. Switching between the pad and screen is instant, there's no delay (which I've seen on other Ultrabooks and laptops. Netbooks especially.) I know I like to use both often, swipe the screen to scroll a webpage and use the pad to direct the cursor.

Keyboard: The keys don't have to be pressed very hard to register what you're typing, the light touch keys are nice to use if you type alot. Also, there's a full Num pad which is useful.

Buttons Up-top: There are 3 small buttons, one is Assist (the name explains its use), a Web button (instantly pulls up your default web browser with whatever you had running on it, if you had nothing running it will open a new tab.) and finally a VAIO button which pulls up the desktop view and a button configuration window.

1TB HDD... No explanation needed.

8GB Memory- Necessary for use

Brightness/Volume: Both vary from very high to very low, and all settings are clear to see/hear.

Overall I am very happy with my experience on this system. Actually Im typing this revie

Cons: Weight: It's not light as a feather, that's for sure. But it's not too heavy to carry around. The weight definately makes it feel durable though.

Touchpad: The sensitivity and pre-set settings can be abit mettlesome, at first I was using mostly the touchscreen just because the touchpad was annoying. Tip: Go through your settings and adjust the touchpad to your preference as soon as you get the system, it will save you a headache.

Noise: The fans in the system aren't very loud, but when you're importing a CD to your iTunes account the CD/DVD drive can get abit noisy. On the bright side, the drive works fast (so you don't have to hear it long) and the system speakers are great for playing music to block it out. Though I've watched a few DVDs and the drive seems to stay quiet while it's playing. Rarely when you're downloading a big file or program the fans might kick up.. but again: their not too loud.

That's about it for Cons.

Other Thoughts: If the touchpad could be upgraded and the CD/DVD drive silenced I'd say this was one of the best systems I've owned. I've built quite a few desktops for gaming and business use and of course I was skeptical to buy an Ultrabook. Especially with Windows 8 considering the OS's reviews. However this system has surpassed my expectations so far especially with me being someone who plays games and uses office applications and programs on the same device. This system runs it all smoothly and is under $1500 like most competition with the same specifications.

To roundup: Intel i7 Core Processor, 1TB HDD drive, CD/DVD/Burner drive, 1x Headphone/Mic jack, 3 full size USB (two 2.0 USB and one 3.0), a Full sized HDMI connection, Windows 8 64-bit, 8GB memory, 1 VGA port, Backlit keyboard and Touchscreen.. Compaired to a DELL XPS 12 with nearly all the same specs (at about $2000), this system handles much better (& Yes I had both.. Just returned the newest XPS 12 to keep this VAIO)

One thing to keep in mind: The screen is 15.5 inches, meaning the system has to be big enough to hold it. This Ultrabook is bigger than some others but the screen is worth it. I know I was abit shocked with the size when I received the Ultrabook but I haven't stopped using it since.
