Sony hits a homerun!
This review is from: SONY VAIO F Series VPCF125FX/B NoteBook Intel Core i7 740QM (1.73GHz) 6GB Memory 640GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 16.4" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Pros: - Intel Core i7 740QM @ 1.73Ghz, which is a step above most comparable laptops at this price. 6GB of RAM, which, again, is more than most. Two laptops ago, a Dell Inspiron 6000 had 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 15.4" screen and my 50 yr old eyes found that resolution too small. My last laptop was a Compaq with the more standard 1366 x 768 resolution on a 16" screen. Easier on the eyes, but I missed the extra desktop space. I feel like Goldilocks with this 16.4" screen and its 1600 x 900 resolution. It feels JUST RIGHT. Very close to the same size as my last two laptops: a good compromise between lots of screen without the bulk of a 17" laptop.
Cons: I choose the 640GB hard drive model at 5400 rpm instead of the 500GB hard drive at 7200 rpm, so not a con, a choice. Would have prefered ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card for its DirectX 11 support, but not a big gamer and still glad to have 1 Gb of discreet graphics. GeForce 330M better than GeForce 310 found on many others. Speakers are disappointing, but who buys a laptop for its speakers? Sounds great with headphones or with my external Bose speakers attached. Ignore any concerns about the screen brightness adjusting itself... that's a feature that's easy to turn off if you don't like it. If I have two complaints and both are small ones. First, there are only 2 USB ports, requiring me to use a usb for my external mouse, external hard drive, and one more for my cooling pad. Will be solved, though, when I swap my external hard drive for a SATA drive, since this computer includes a SATA port, too!
Other Thoughts: The sheer number of different connections makes this feel very complete. I kept trying to justify an Asus over this one, but feature to feature, this computer had the Asus models beat. Found it elsewhere at a better price that NewEgg.com, which is uncommon. Wish I had called NewEgg and given them a chance to price match, though, because I wasn't happy with the service from the other store. (Not sure if NewEgg price matches or not.)
