Pros: Good laptop for the price.

Cons: The touch pad and keyboard DoA. Call Sony tech (which was useless) then bring to Sony store (recommend this option if your Sony laptop still under warranty). They give me an option to fix or send it back to the store I purchased for exchange (Sony tech recommended exchange since this laptop is right out of the box). Call Newegg customer service and they forward me return label. Waited for 1 week for the shipment arrive back at Newegg, then waited for an additional 3 days for them to process. On the 3rd day, I received a refund notice since this model is out of stock. Newegg didn't even give me an option of repair the laptop. The customer service was good until this point. Wasted 3 weeks and still no laptop. Pondering if I need to complain since it was in Newegg terms of agreement that they retain the option of exchanging or refund of an item.

Other Thoughts: 4 gig of RAMS is a little slow for this type of system and configuration, recommend 8 gig for better performance.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect laptop for my needs

Pros: I've had this laptop since March, and have loved every minute on it. I mostly use it to play Minecraft, but it runs Aion quite well, just getting a little hot when I play the latter. It's a very sturdy build, and the case is smooth, but not shiny, so fingerprints aren't an issue. This is, in all, the perfect laptop for my needs, which are mainly 3D design and gaming.

The keys also light up in the dark. Helpful for obvious reasons... but it also looks really cool.

Cons: Sony Vaio pop-up services and surveys are a little annoying. They don't happen often enough for me to take the time to figure out how to disable them, however, and this is certainly no deal-breaker.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Buy

Pros: I had bought a smaller Sony for my daughter last year and was impressed with the build and minimal bloatware. This one didn't let me down. I like the textured touchpad. Bought this primarily to maintain my Web Connections while on the road. For my use it is Perfect! Hate Norton so already had my own AV ready and cleaned pre-installed junk in no time.

Cons: None serious. The fan does run a lot and a bit high at times but it doesn't bother me at all. Sound quality is not the best but I didn't expect the best from a laptop, Music sounds just fine at a moderate volume, if I felt a need to crank it I'd hook up ext. speakers. Not having a keyboard Volume button is no hassle since I don't fluctuate very often. It does need more than 2 USB ports but knew before I bought it, I carry a hub just in case I need it. Bloatware (for my taste) was mostly all Sony stuff I don't need, I'm savvy enough to maintain it myself.

Other Thoughts: Nothing to do with the unit but I bought 16.4" to have a larger screen, wish I had spent a little more for a 17"+.

4 out of 5 eggsEggcellent deal

Pros: Newegg offered excellent service with fast shipping. Love the back lite keyboard, fast processor and large display.

Cons: Battery life not so good and wireless card is weak. I replaced it with Item#: N82E16833106061 which works excellent. NOTE: replacing the card is extremely tedious and requires disassembly of almost whole computer so not for your average Joe.

Other Thoughts: Create a recovery disc as soon as you get it as no software is shipped with unit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth the money

Pros: blew me away, first exprerience with SONY Laptop, so far i'm still impress. Intel Core i7, 4GB option to add more, NVIDIA, Keyboard, screen size and really fast also the fan is on the side.

Cons: Had a touchpad issue sent it back and awaiting on the exchange.

Other Thoughts: Might experience slowness on some sites. It depends on your internet speed.
Other than that you should get it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good specs, good price, solid hardware

Cons: Somewhat heavy (expected for the size), runs a little hot

Other Thoughts: I've been running this laptop for roughly 3 weeks, and I'm happy with it thus far. The price is competitive for the specs. The i7 processor comes in real handy for me when running long MATLAB scripts. Fast boot and load times. The hardware is solid, and I'm a big fan of the individual key design of the keyboard. I didn't expect to use the num pad much, but it's actually a nice addition. I don't have any USB 3.0 devices yet, but I'm looking forward to the improved speeds. Light sensor controls the keyboard backlight to preserve battery life when backlighting is unnecessary.

It does run a little hot, consistent with many other reviews, and the fan is running often. A simple $5 cooling pad solved this problem without a hitch. The lack of volume control buttons with the other media keys is baffling, but a simple keystroke performs the same function (Fn + F3/4). The speakers are pretty wimpy - use headphones/speakers. Got some CPU whine at first, has since stopped.

3 out of 5 eggsBe sure before you buy

Pros: Nice specs / good price, that's why it keeps some eggs.

Cons: Fan is constantly running, has a high pitch whining noise. There's supposed to be some kind of bios tweak out there, but I'm yet to find it. So now I might be able to return it by paying return shipping within the first 30 days or else I have to deal with Sony. And I cant afford to be without a laptop. For Sony, besides the time it will be in the "shop", there's no guarantee that they will even put it back together properly. This is a good case for paying extra for the item and taxes to buy locally.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Computer

Pros: -Nice internal components (i7, 7200 RPMHDD, NVIDIA 425m)
-Lots of inputs
-Decent Looking
-Nice Feeling Keyboard
-Some of the included software is actually pretty nice

Cons: -It was quite loud for a laptop. Constant running sound, that sounded like some desktops I've used. There was also other awkward noises coming from the laptop. It kind of sounded like faint beeps.
-The fan turned on frequently. Pretty much all the time. I tried doing the various recommendations of SONY to resolve the problem, but nothing worked.
-The computer felt cheaply made. Quite a bit of flex on the back of the screen.

Other Thoughts: I actually sent this computer back due to the fan issues. I am a college student and a music producer, so its running noise was unacceptable for what I needed it for. I couldn't bring it to class due to its loudness being distracting and forget about recording vocals in its vicinity. In all honesty I may have just received a bad egg. The computer was quite decent besides the emanating sounds. I do think SONY could have built it more sturdily with a price point of $1000. It felt cheap to me.

5 out of 5 eggsFound Drivers

Pros: See my review below.

Cons: See my review below.

Other Thoughts: I eventually found the drivers. Apparently, for whatever reason, this system is the VPCF13XFXÅ . I did the Vaio detect, and it detected it right, but showed no drivers. It was not until I went into their site and found the Model above was I able to actually find the drivers.

So the drivers are there, just do not use the "Auto Detect" to find them, as it might appear that there are none.

After the drivers installed on Win7, everything seems to be running smoothly now. I made a CD of the drivers, as the Wireless Card Driver does not get installed by default, it will make it easier on a format to get up and running without a landline.
