Pros: This Ultrabook(UB) is small and has all the top end features; i7, 8GB RAM,SSD(256GB) and don't forget this has the high res display and the light weight of this UB.
This not a business level UB it has much more power than needed for day to MS office worker stuff. If that is what you do, this would be overkill but is flashy for presentations and if it is important to be on the edge of the tech space. This will present that look.
General speed is as good as it gets. I work on a lot of laptops setting them up for other employees and this thing is the fastest and most responsive I have every worked on.
Display: Awesome screen. Just Awesome. Could not get clearer or more crisp. One thing some should know. If you set windows 8 display settings to show at 100% you better like small fonts and have good eyes. the screen res is high but the physical rel-estate is not. So you get very clear but very small text. BTW the default is 150% so you will not notice this unless you change it your self. FYI,some apps will not display correctly when you have your desktop set to anything other than 100%.
Additional features that were important to me was a RJ45 jack in the back so you can connect hardline when needed. This is done fairly slick in that it is smaller when it is not in use(more on this in the cons).
The keyboard is deceptively small (vertically). The top to bottom spacing took a good hour to get used to. Width is very good and overall its a nice size and comfortable once you use it a little. It works well in low light. There must be a sensor that knows when you are in a darker room. The Keyboard automatically lights up as needed.
Mouse(thing) Not really sure what to call it but it is not a "joystick" as you might think. it is a touch pad. just very small. It is a little sensitive to the click motion but it works amazingly well overall. I still prefer an actual mouse when doing most work.
2 usb3 ports. Somewhat too close together. if you have 2 dongles to plug in make sure one or both are narrow.
Pen, this is not something I want to say much about. I hate pens and well they really have no use for me. I did play with this and it seems to work well. It does seem to me that the design of the cap is not secure enough so I would not hang it on the outside of anything, it will lily get lost.
Sound quality is also amazing for a UB. Nuff said there.
Solid construction! does not feel cheap in any way!
Touch Display works great in all modes. nice and accurate. I have big hands and it still seems to work well for me.
Cameras are nice and have a good image in good light. Not so good if your in a room that you would not call bright.
Gesture software and function seem not as good or cool as I would have thought. Basically useless from what I can tell.
The amount of Bloatware on this was surprisingly minimal.
Wifi is great. Best performance over the air I have seen for a long time.
Battery life tested 4 cycles
Cons: Con wise there are only a few points that seem to make you want more.
The display cant detach or even be set at a user defined angle. This is important to note and I did not think of it when I ordered this. When you have the keyboard showing, so you can use it like a laptop, you cant change the angle of the display. It is fixed. This is the main reason I did not go with 5 stars. Keep in mind this has its up side too. When you have the display open, the over all depth of the UB is the same. Fits nicely on your lap and the angle is pretty good anyway. The viewing angle of the display is really good too.So it is a con but I think it can also be a pro.
Keyboard is short from top to bottom. So that takes a little getting use to.
Having the screen on the outside when you are not using it or in your bag makes me nervous but the right case has solved that.
When you use the RJ45 network connection, the port opens up and protrudes below the bottom of the UB.This is fixed by a couple of flippable feet that raise the back side up just enough so that it is not laying on the table directly on the RJ45. Something to know, slight con but I am guessing most will not be going hard line much.
Can't replace battery. But you can get the add on sled battery, have not looked at that yet.
Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this for hard core IT and development work as well as presentations to clients. Seems to be the full package with very little to be unhappy with. Would I recommend this, to the right user, I would. If you are not a tech worker, I would say it is too much. Maybe an Audiophile or a graphic artist would get good use out of it too. I am not that type so I really cant say other than it has the power to do that stuff and both the Audio and the display are top notch.
