3 out of 5 eggsUpdate - Buggy Hardware

Pros: See previous review.

Cons: See previous review.

Other Thoughts: I'm on my seconds unit. The first unit had to go back (thank you NewEgg for making that easy!), as it was constantly rebooting. The replacement unit worked fine for a couple of months, but for the last few weeks has had an issue with the WiFi chip (apparently). Every 15 or 30 minutes the WiFi goes down for about two minutes. It's quite annoying. There are several other computers on that router which don't have that problem -- it seems to be isolated to the Chromebook. I've also had the same problem when connected to other routers, so it's not just a router problem.

All in all I'm enjoying my Chromebook. It does everything I believed it would, and is a nice little unit with a great screen. However, the hardware has turned out to be anything but reliable. I'll have to return this unit to Samsung for repair or replacement. I wonder how much of a nightmare that will turn out to be.

Upgraded hardware was announced just a few months after I purchased this unit... how annoying

3 out of 5 eggsAcceptable

Pros: - Light
- Quick to boot
- Lightning fast wake from sleep
- Very nice screen
- Good keyboard
- Price is right

Cons: - Slow -- don't expect to run any flash or HTML5 games. The CPU/GPU combo just isn't up to it.
- First unit was defective. After a few days of use it started locking up randomly, and eventually wouldn't stay running more than a few minutes. Mostly likely a component failing when heated.

Other Thoughts: - I won't comment on battery life. It wasn't as good as I was expecting, but given I had a defective unit, I'll wait until I get a good unit to comment.
- Enjoyed playing around with it. I think it will be quite useful once I get Citrix Receiver working correctly with my work PC using Xen Desktop.
- I wasn't looking for a gaming machine, though it would have been nice if it at least was powerful enough to play the occasional session of Angry Birds smoothly.
- This will be great for traveling, tethered to a smartphone.
- I tried the tablet thing for a while, but have decided that while tablets are useful for certain things, having a screen that stays upright and a keyboard are mandatory for doing anything truly useful (surfing the web, responding to email, working with docs, etc.)
- I have some thoughts about the keyboard, but those are really issues with ChromeOS, not this implementation.
- I'll update this review after two or three weeks with a good unit.

3 out of 5 eggsIt Does What It's Supposed To!

Pros: I have a powerful desktop already, and wanted something tablet-ish with a real keyboard. That is essentially what this is, it is an internet machine in name and operation. Since I got it, I use my desktop only for gaming because all the little stuff I wanna check (facebook, email, blogs) I can do on my chromebook.
Build quality is average, plasticy. However, the only moving part is the fan, so you don't really need a strong build to cushion sensitive parts. The screen and keyboard are very good, and that's really all you need.

I think people give these bad reviews because they're expecting a full laptop. I would not recommend this device to someone who is looking to replace their laptop. Think of it more as an iPad and it makes more sense.

It's just dang handy if you wanna google something, you can turn it on, google, and find your answer in less than a minute. Very simple!

Cons: Obviously it's not the fastest machine in the world. I would compare it to my old MSI Netbook, which had an Atom as well. However, the Chromebook is faster overall than it.

Surfing the internet is fine, you'll run into some problems streaming HD video though. So use your real computer for that. speakers are terrible, but plug in headphones and it sounds fine.

The only real issue is you need to stay in WiFi. If you're looking to use it in coffee shops or just outside your house (even if there's free WiFi) I'd recommend getting the 3G version.

Other Thoughts: Battery life is fantastic. Charged it up two days ago to 100%, after two days of on and off use surfing the web, down to 50% battery (around 7 hours of total battery life, I'd estimate)

It's really easy to hold in one hand while typing with the other. Always found that hard on my old netbook but this chromebook is weighted just right.

Again, realize that this isn't a full laptop. Highly recommended for people who have big powerful desktops. put it on your coffee table for when you have one of those "Where have I seen that guy before?" moments while watching TV.

To describe this product in one word, I'd say "Handy".
It's not going to blow you away in any sense, but it does it's intended job very well.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Inexpensive, quiet, fast boot, no maintenance, lots more web apps than I expected!

Cons: Very poor speaker (speakers?) Auto screen brightness jumps around at times and does not appear to be able to shut off.

Other Thoughts: It came without the track pad clicking enabled...WTH? It won't even try to setup without plugging a mouse in. Did no one actually try one before producing? Overall I like it though.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for certain things

Pros: 2 USB ports. Long battery life. Quick battery recharge. Lightweight and portable. AMAZING boot up speed. Instant return from sleep. Web store is convenient with lots of great apps that are also available on your mobile device.

Cons: Not an awful lot you can do if you're not connected to the internet. Helps to have a mobile hotspot or 4G USB service. Runs games fairly choppy. Can't edit Google Docs offline.

Other Thoughts: I think in the long run through all of the updates Google gives, these Chromebooks will become very stable and useful to the typical person who uses internet for online gaming, social networking, email and web browsing, of course. The Web Store is useful for lots of apps and alternative to Windows/Mac programs, but more things need to be accessible offline.

1 out of 5 eggsSamsung Chromebook

Pros: Fast startup - not to be confused with fast processing. IT just starts up fast and wakes from sleep extremely quick

Looks amazing - Very nice glossy finish to it and nice add of chrome insignia on it

Great for online use

Nice matte display for anti glare.

Cons: Computer is slow especially compared to what I have used previously on computers.

Pepper flash causes videos using flash to lag really bad when it first starts. Not very fluent and gets really irritating at times. Very choppy.

Feels cheap. If I dropped it it would most likely crumbled into a million plastic pieces.

Screen hinge begin to fall apart after 1 week of use. Got a pink screen plastered and made the screen look really bad. sent it back to Newegg.

I was hoping for a more of a crisp display.

If you are out of a Wi-fi Spot you are out of luck. unless tether from your phone or something.

Other Thoughts: Overall this chromebook left a bad taste in my mouth. I sent it back to newegg as an RMA because of the display being plastered with pink. I wouldn't recommend this computer yet. Not until the bugs have all been worked out.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung Chromebook

Pros: Lightweight, fast, quick boot time, portable, comfortable, long battery life, fast wifi connection, internet only, does not get hot while on thighs, has flash, nice keyboard, large mousepad, great screen, html5.

Cons: Does not support Java (but might in the future).

Other Thoughts: I bought this a few weeks ago because I was looking for something that was portable, light weight, and something that was different than my laptop. My laptop is heavy, I cant take it to any wifi connectivity places because the battery doesnt last long, and it is slow. This Chromebook is great for those who love being on the internet. There is no dvd drive or cd drive, which is great because I never even used those on my laptop. I only use my desktop for work and playing games. The Chromebook is a great inbetween of a desktop and a tablet. I love it!!! I would recommend this product.
