Happy with Debian
Pros: Immediately upon receipt I installed Debian (testing aka wheezy). Everything worked perfectly, once firmware-iwlwifi and firmware-realtek were installed for the wifi and ethernet interfaces. Sound, camera, microphone, ethernet, wifi, suspend-on-lid-close, battery meter, USB3, etc. Very zippy w/ the flash storage. Highly recommended for any Linux users out there.
Cons: The "buttons" on the trackpad took me a while to get used to. There was a bit of kerfuffling around getting the system to boot linux off its internal disk drive. The suspect-to-disk ("hibernate") thing doesn't seem to work, although the suspend-to-ram with the lid closed is very fast so I don't really miss hibernate much.

Great Deal on last year's model with Intel WiFi
Pros: I love this computer. I am very picky about notebooks, always feeling like there are too many compromises. The Samsung Series 9 answers all of my needs while being ultra portable and extremely stylish. This refurbished model has the Intel Centrino 6300 WiFi card and my wireless performance has been as good or better than any other portable I've owned. The touchpad is sensitive and intuitive; I love its function and performance. The battery life is excellent, though not as good as I hoped (or advertised, though that is fairly typical). The keyboard (with adjustable backlight) is sturdy and comfortable to type on. There was a reasonable amount of bloatware, though one of the first things I did was reclaim the recovery partition. The hideaway ports are a big plus for me, though I know they're hit-and-miss for some folks; for me they add to the sleekness of the appearance and the smoothness of the case when sliding in and out of my backpack.
Cons: The battery life could be a bit longer, though it's the best I've had. I can get about six hours with the screen always on at minimum brightness, which is fine for my needs. I'm a little annoyed that there is no way to upgrade the RAM without voiding the warranty (though, on a refurbished model the warranty is only three months anyway, but still). That seems like an upgrade that anyone should be able to do on their own machine without voiding the warranty.
Other Thoughts: This was the perfect model for me. Sure it is "last year's model," but I upgraded the RAM to 8GB, and with the Core i5, the performance is amazing for such a portable machine. I debated waiting for the new Series 9 models to ship, but decided that for about half the price, this was the way to go for me. I've had really good luck with tech refurbs, but everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to deal with a refurbished model. With the updated wireless card and amazing performance to price ratio, I had to grab this one. I am very happy with my Samsung.
