4 out of 5 eggsGreat Overall Value

Pros: Very solid construction, elegant design, lightweight, and although this technically removes it from the strict ultrabook category I appreciate the main hard drive's 500GB capacity (although it tries to slip in by having a much smaller SSD partner drive to boot the system). It does have a quick boot time and is very responsive overall.

A HUGE plus is that this "ultrabook" doesn't compromise on connectivity. Every major port is there without any funny dongles that you have to worry about losing: RJ45, 3 USB (including 1 USB 3.0), memory card reader, audio jacks (although both headphone and mic are combined into one), HDMI, and VGA. Most other ultrabooks sacrifice one or more of the above (including Samsung's own 9 series, Asus Zenbook, Dell's XPS, Lenovo, etc.). Only Toshiba's ultrabook can compete with this in terms of port connectivity.

Also included are ALL wireless connections: WI-FI b/g/n (of course), bluetooth, AND Intel's wireless display.

Tiny footprint and 8GB max RAM

Cons: I still get much longer battery life out of my older ASUS UA30. There's no backlit keyboard, but this isn't really a con to me. Although becoming more standard, that feature is still a luxury versus necessity.

The function keys for WIFI don't actually turn WIFI on/off directly. They open up a software menu that you then have to scroll down to in order to do something which should have been done very quickly otherwise. Why this extra unnecessary step? Not a deal breaker, but it is annoying.

There are also no media controls on the function keys outside of volume control. I think they could have been easily added, and would have provided great value.

There's also unnecessary bloatware that I immediately removed.

I've also recently experience some involuntary keyboard remapping. I hope this is easily remedied.

Other Thoughts: Battery life is adequate, but not stellar. You can get the maximum life by changing the power settings (which come in Samsung's own presets). I can get a maximum of around 6 hours when using lower power settings. My older ASUS easily pulls off 9 hours.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Ultrabook

Pros: This is a nice, stylish ultrabook. It is very portable and ideal for professionals on the go. It seems very snappy and responsive, and should be able to run just about any productivity application. Appears to be well constructed.

Cons: I do have a few gripes:

- no back-lit keyboard
- arrow keys are not standard size
- display is only 1366x768 and viewing angles aren't the best
- speakers are average at best
- Windows 7 Professional should be the default OS

Other Thoughts: It comes with a single 4 GB DDR-3 SO-DIMM. Add another stick for 8 GB total in dual-channel mode.

I haven't tried any games on it yet, so I cannot really comment on the Intel HD3000 graphics. I will use this mainly for writing code while sitting on the couch watching TV.
