5 out of 5 eggsMemory goes to 16, not stuck at 8

Pros: Fast, good looking, no lag in games

Cons: Wish the battery lasted longer, the limited amount of fan circulation bothers me

Other Thoughts: In response to the posting about being stuck at 8 gig ram: this model seems to come with either 2x4 or 1x8 in its 2 slots, meaning you can replace and upgrade the memory to 2x8 creating 16 gig Ram.

Cons: I hope whoever packaged my unit gets fired, because not only does this lead me to believe that Newegg has stopped caring about their customers, but it also leads me to believe that they didn't even test that this laptop works. If they didn't send the right charger, then how am I supposed to know they even plugged it in and turned it on?

Other Thoughts: This is complete disrespect for the consumer. I'm a full-time student and now I get to wait even longer for the piece of equipment I already paid for.

5 out of 5 eggsSeriously awesome!

Pros: Honestly I don't understand all these bad reviews. This thing is slim, sleek, powerful, solid, fast. I went from a beefy desktop to this laptop because I'm never home and always on the move. I don't regret my decision one bit. I bought mine used on another website for $700, which is an AMAZING price for a machine with this kind of quality. The build quality and style rival the 15" Macbook, and the specs are only just behind in a few areas... but at 1/4 the price.

The 7200rpm drive really helps out. You'll notice the difference instantly if you're upgrading from a lower-end laptop. 6GB of RAM is plenty, and the i7 runs like a dream. I love the matte screen as well, good move in my opinion. USB 3.0 is very handy for external hard drives.

Cons: To upgrade the hard drive is a bit unconventional. There's no panel on the back that comes off with one screw, so you have to take the whole back off.

Slightly confused at Samsung's microphone placement. It sits directly underneath where you rest your left hand sits, and picks up noise from the internal components. You'd think this would be an easy fix, but there's a combo headphone/mic port so you've gotta get an adapter or a headset with only one 3.5mm plugin.

Other Thoughts: Honestly though the cons aren't enough for me to dislike this machine at all. The money I saved by getting it used will be going toward a few peripherals to make things seamless.

4 out of 5 eggsWell worth the price of admission

Pros: Very affordable price for what I consider to be a high end system. The affordability comes from this being a refurbished system. Works great and would not know that it was a refurbed system if it weren't for the "Refurbished" sticker on the laptop. The specs are top notch:
* Quad Core
* Dedicated graphics card
* Great battery life (around 5/6 hours on average)
* Fast wake up from sleep
* Beautiful design. Sleek with the brushed metal look and the backlit keyboard. It's usually the first comment I get from people: "wow, that's a nice looking laptop."

Cons: * 8GB Max RAM capacity. More than enough for the majority of people, but for hardcore developers or gamers this might not seem enough in a couple of years. Compared to the other specs of the system, I tend to think that this is going to be the first thing to hold me back and want to upgrade.
* Trackpad definitely is finicky as many people have pointed out. Latest firmware helps, but still frequently run into situations where I get random accidental clicks or click drags as I'm trying to navigate.

Other Thoughts: I use the system primarily for doing software development and for web browsing. Because of the (relatively) long battery life, I spend over 90% of my time disconnected from the power. I frequently find myself modifying the power management settings depending on whether I'm developing with multiple VMs and editors open or if I am just browsing. I can definitely tell the difference between going from the battery saving "Samsung Optimized" to "High Performance" in how the laptop performs. But oddly the battery drain appears to be around the same. The power settings of course can be customized based on your needs.

I ran into one oddity with the graphics card. The computer has special settings that allows either the onboard graphics card or AMD graphics card to be used per application. Less graphics intensive applications will use the onboard card. Most of the settings are fine as is, but I had to manually tweak it for certain things in Visual Studio to work properly.

2 out of 5 eggsUnauthorized by Samsung

Pros: Excellent 1600x900 anti-glare screen, great price (if it worked)

Cons: Defective on Arrival. Instructions in box were for Samsung standard service. Samsung DOES NOT authorize refurbished products. This is a 3rd party refurb. Long story short a month after I bought it I still don't have a working laptop due to courier delays and run-around.

Other Thoughts: The site does not make it clear that this is a 3rd party refurb which the manufacturer will not touch with a 10 foot pole. I won't say that their ad was false advertising, but you can draw your own conclusions.

If they fix it and get me 90 days of warranty from the day it actually arrives in working order then I'll change this review to reflect reasonable service, but even so that wouldn't cover the inconvenience involved in the many phonecalls, emails, driving around to couriers, and won't change the fact that I've been without a laptop for a month... Long story short I needed a laptop, Newegg took my money and failed to deliver one, and I'm still waiting a month later. That's not acceptable.

2 out of 5 eggsExpected higher quality and service

Pros: Good looking and sleek

Cons: Unit was dead on arrival, appeared to be hard drive issues/failure

Other Thoughts: Very dissapointed with unit received and service from NewEgg for distributing defective equipment. Unit was supposedly refurbished and I would think quality checks would be made by the distributor before listing for sale. Refund policy is none at all if you "open the pc". How can you determine the status and working conditieon of the unit without turning it on. What a joke!!. Tried NewEgg due to changes with the other onliine leader, my mistake. No comparison the big A wins hands down.

1 out of 5 eggsHigh expectations, low delivery

Pros: Great design, comfortable to use

Cons: Where to begin:
Constant freezing since day 1, repeated hard shutdowns.
Windows explorer crashes all the time
Only some Fn (function) keys work properly
Preferences constantly reset
Doesn't live up to its specifications,

Other Thoughts: I've tried installing Easy Display manager for the function keys, doing restores, updating drivers, etc but nothing seems to prevent it from literally just locking up from something as simple as opening Skype or even My Computer. I've run plenty of virus scans, and they've come back clean. I just can't win with this.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: Fast, great screen, super light, nice backlight. Easy software manager to keep all of your drivers and programs up to date, all in one place. Runs quietly.

Cons: battery life is good, not fantastic. Screen is a little bit of an odd dimension. It looks like 8 1/2" by 14" which is a little short, but keeps the whole machine pretty small with the 10-keys on the side. However, it's a super bright, awesome screen

Other Thoughts: My main worry when I first bought this computer was the touchpad. I loved everything else about this computer. With recent software and driver updates (the software manager lets you easily update everything to current right out of the box), the touchpad is sweet.

It has smart touch options like 3 finger swipe to show all windows to scroll through. 4 fingers shows the desktop or will bring your windows back up. Two finger scroll in all directions where available. It works great. Love this computer.
