5 out of 5 eggsAwesome PC

Pros: For the $$$ you pay, this is way better than any gaming PC! "At least when it came out". Fast, looks gorgeous, and display is just a killer! Even though this laptop is old, it's still able to run my 4k dell monitor with the display port! Awesome!!!

Cons: keyboard heats up during intense gaming!

1 out of 5 eggsReturned

Pros: Great screen it looked amazing!

Cons: Video card failed after a week on one of them. The second one lasted 2 weeks longer then I had Memory_management errors and check disks errors.. Called Samsung tech support they tried to do a factory restore, which didn't work. Sent the second one back.

Other Thoughts: Gave it a one star because the screen was amazing and when it did work it was great.. I doubt i will try a Samsung laptop again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Beautiful screen, great keyboard and touchpad, good looking design without being flashy, keyboard backlighting, fans vent out back, very quiet when not gaming (and not too loud while gaming), keyboard and palmrest stays cool while gaming

Cons: Samsung's pre-loaded software is a little buggy, mainly their Modeshift software which occasionally crashes when switching modes.

Other Thoughts: I decided to finally replace my old gaming laptop and after a lot of research decided on the Samsung. I wanted a moderately priced laptop that could play games at decent settings. I use the laptop for gaming at friend's houses so I don't have to lug my desktop around.

This is a gaming laptop and is not meant to throw in your purse and take to Starbucks. Having said that, this does not seem as big as I thought it would. The battery lasts a little over 3 hours while surfing the web and downloading games on Steam with the screen at 50% brightness.

My biggest concerns are display quality, keyboard and touchpad quality, and a quality build. The Samsung's keyboard is awesome! I actually prefer it over my desktop keyboard. The screen is bright with vivid colors and no signs of edge bleeding or dead pixels.

I am extremely happy with the Samsung gamer. I have only done some gaming in Starcraft II and Borderlands 2 so far, but once I get some free time I will try some other games to see how they do.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Everything worked out of the box. Does a wonderful job playing BluRay discs. I don't do fps games so can't comment there. Everquest and WoW looks gorgeous on it and play fantastic on the highest settings. It is a beast of a laptop and that is what I wanted and that is what I got.

Cons: For me, none because I knew what to expect in this large heavy beast of a laptop. I wanted a portable desktop and that is what I got!

3 out of 5 eggsSuperb 1st Effort

Pros: 400nit brightness is based on a Samsung patent. The monitor is awe-inspiring in all aspects. You will not find its consistent equal in custom shop m/c's from the folks at Maingear / OriginPC. As a licensed audio engineer, Samsung has outdone the pre-made rivals at this price point. This makes for a suburb entertainment machine. However...

Cons: Samsung's 1st Gamer - and Samsung are some very smart guys - it boggles the mind why they didn't use up-to-date, world class technologies that they themselves manufacture and gamers demand, namely Samsung's SSD drives or at least mechanicals in RAID 0. As a shareholder, as well, I just can't figure it. Second tech oldie, when they upped the Intel 3610QM to the 3630QM midyear, unlike their competitors, they failed to upgrade the nVIDIA GTX 675M to the 675MX which for a mere $100 bump delivers nearly 40% pref graphx! Alternatively they could have upgraded the 675M to the 670MX which for a discount of $100 would've given at least 15% pref graphx. Strange strategy, that.

Other Thoughts: At the +/- $2,000 price point, it's imperative that Samsung commit to joining the Gamer Lappy industry demands. And they have the funds, the fabs and tech patents in-house to price an $3,000+ OriginPC at $2,000 in order to grab share. Don't get me wrong - as I received this system as test copy for free and review in one of the hardware mags, I ADORE IT!! But the fact remains that - aside from the 400nit brightness gloss monitor - this system's overpriced FOR WHAT IT OFFERS.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent hardware, terrible OOBE

Pros: Nice screen, keyboard, performance specs. Lighter than average with these specs (still huge though). Cool and quiet when running under light to medium loads.

Cons: The out-of-box experience was so abysmal I have to drop at least 1 egg for it. Apparently this thing is just way too "bleeding edge"... they shouldn't have even released it yet. First, when I first turned it on, and it started setting up Windows 8, a Samsung driver returned an error code and caused the installation to fail. After that, every boot resulted in a required reboot and the install was already hosed. Not that I care; I planned to install my own SSD and Win8 clean. But the BIOS had a severe issue as well. After the second or third time in the BIOS settings, it broke and became INCREDIBLY-super-slow and if you tried to change a setting, it crashed. This prevents you from disabling UEFI secure boot... which means fresh Windows 8 was literally the only option. Fortunately after a clean Win8 install, the BIOS update utility actually worked and fixed the BIOS problem completely. The website for this laptop didn't post the standalone current drivers, but I got them by installing their tool from here:

It may not be quite as big/heavy as some gaming laptops, but it's still huge and heavy. And the battery life is kinda meh, ~2hrs, depending on what you're doing. The sound is decent but definitely not suitable for pro audio work requiring low latency streaming. No ExpressCard slot either... this irks me but these slots are becoming a rarity unfortunately. Also there is no way to disable battery charging that I can find... this would really help for any DC->AC inverter scenarios such as driving in a car where you need to limit the maximum current draw. The specs should say it comes with 2x750GB, since "1.5TB" might mislead some people.

Other Thoughts: Be prepared to reinstall the OS out of the box with this thing and update the BIOS firmware as soon as possible. If you do this, it'll mostly live up to your expectations.
