3 out of 5 eggsSamsung the Company Sucks

Pros: Huge Screen, multiple monitor support, windows 8,

Cons: Samsung. The company samsung is the con. They created software that completely interferes with windows 8. It doesn't allow updates of windows os. For the 1st year of ownership I couldn't stay connected to the internet for more than 10 minutes without dropping the connection. FINALLY they just got a solution. Support is nonexistant. I ended up calling microsoft directly. they felt so bad when I explained all the issues they helped me unravel the web of custom software screwing with the OS.

5 out of 5 eggs5 Stars!

Pros: A really solid laptop with a 120Mhz 3d capable screen. The keyboard is solid and feels great. The little selector mode switch is a nice touch. The video cards seems above an Nvidia 650, but honestly I have only played World of Tanks with it, and that is with everything Maxed. I get 45-75 FPS so I am happy. The system is Lamborghini yellow and I just happened to have a mouse the same color.

The system has two hard drive bays with 2 500Gb 7200 sata disks. Replacing them is a cinch and Samsung has software that will move the OS from one drive another if you replace them. An SSD with a 1 Tb 7200 drive gives the system a Windows experience rating of 7.8...The same as my desktop.

The machine has 4 dim slots with two of them open. I upgraded the RAM to 16Gb with 2x4Gb sticks. I do not mind the weight because it is sitting on my desk with the exception of when we travel for vacation. It is very heavy. The unit weights 9.5 pounds without the power brick which itself is a 200W unit. The vents are huge and vent out the rear of the unit so it stays nice and cool when gaming.

Cons: Windows 8, but 'startisback' fixes that and was well worth the $5 for 5 seats.

Other Thoughts: Software updates for this laptop are only available via a software update application pre-loaded on to the system. If you go to AMD for a video driver then their website will direct you back to Samsung. If you deleted that application as bloatware then you can get it back from Sammy's website. Same thing for the Intel wireless card. If you right click on the device and update it then it will update, but then Samsung updates stop. Seems odd but I have not had an issue yet.

First machine was DOA, and Newegg RMA'd it and overnighted a replacement. Great computer parts and great service are why I have been shopping with Newegg since...oh, hell, it may be before 2006, but I cannot recall.

5 out of 5 eggsRE; Amazing Piece! - J.G.

Pros: 17 inch, Hi-res, Keyboard is very nice, high quality parts, sturdy! Samsung product. AMD Card, AMONG THE BEST PROs... The cooling capability! Crunches SETI@Home and The Human Genome project (full load on all applicable components), cool to the touch. Almost no bloatware and the little that is is is easily removable. The color is cool too, it isn't yellow, it's orange pearlecent like a pearly tangerine . Likely not too helpful but an awesome price for an awesome piece. GREAT HD/DISPLAY

Cons: Not windows 7 loaded....get over it and do a little research from a credible source. Humans naturally don't like change. I was skepitcal about Win8, the cooling design, and how the color would look seeing it physically. I was thoroughly suprised.v

Other Thoughts: subtract a significant amount of chicken eggs because it clearly states that it does not come with windows 7? The cooling capability once again suprised the heck out of me! This morning it had consitantly better temperatures than my 8150 in the same ambient room temps. Crunches SETI@Home and The Human Genome project (full load on all applicable components), in ambient temp room of 23C*-24C* and see max temps of 71 without adjusting stock fan speeds. Those results are affected by this awesome cooler (Cooler Master NotePal ErgoStand , NewEgg ITEM# N82E16834997818) that is better than dozens I've seen. My wife actually get cold with that combo. Here is important info about everything product related.

One other thing that I'd like to touch briefly on. Don't let the Windows 8 complainers' reviews affect your experience with this awesome laptopSamsung is working on Windows 8 drivers and have already rolled a lot out. I'm not a windows 8 lover either but one could clearly read that it's preloaded. All of these reviews that mark eggs off for having 8 loaded on it should be overlooked. Like I said, I had no issues with compatibility.

Last thing.... The night it arrived, I got many pleasurable gifts from my wife because she loved it so much :) Thanks NewEgg, Love you guys!!!

Once again heres that helpful link I listed earlier.

1 out of 5 eggsUgh

Pros: The hardware setup is some of the best bang for the buck. The games I could actually get to run without crashing would run on absolute max settings with no problem.

Cons: Windows 8 is terrible. I had non-stop issues. Windows update absolutely refused to work. Games hard locking my computer left and right. No driver support at all for Windows 8. So I downgraded to Windows 7. YOU CANNOT GET GRAPHICS DRIVERS FOR THIS COMPUTER. It utilizes a Radeon 7870m and Samsung only has Nvidia drivers on their website. Right now, I'm stuck because I absolutely cannot get any drivers for my graphics. Samsung tech support is useless. I will be looking to return this for a refund. It's not worth the aggravation and I'll upgrade my desktop instead.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Piece!

Pros: 17 inch, Hi-res, Keyboard is very nice, high quality parts, sturdy! Samsung product. AMONG THE BEST PROs... The cooling capability! I've gamed BF3 just fine on this with high settings for about 1.5 hours, cool to the touch. Almost no bloatware. The color is cool too, it isn't yellow, it's orange like tangerine. Likely not too helpful but an awesome price for an awesome piece.

Cons: Preloaded Windows 8. The NIC is a tiny bit weak but that's an easy fix, no doubt. I'm OCD anyway and my house has very thick, old walls between router and system's NIC.

Other Thoughts: My fiance couldn't get Sims 3 to run, it was giving her compatibility errors. Then I took over and installed them sequentially, patching as I went. I've had no compatibility issues at all. I'll post back with some test results, maybe a video. BUY THIS!

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good, Like the look

Pros: Seems pretty quick, Bought for a work backup, but just installed Phoenix, a RC simulator and the graphics are stunning - especially when Xfr to a TV. Think I will install an SSD for the Primary HDD. Samsung should really do this, for less than a C note, would save us all a lot of trouble. If you are making a gaming computer, why would you not? Also appreciate that they left two memory slots open instead of the usual practice of filling them all with smaller memory so you have to throw some away to increase your memory. Samsung is learning, albeit baby steps.

Cons: Windows 8, of course. If the computer is not a touch screen, why bother? Thanks to the advice of a long winded reviewer on a large Webseller, I installed Start 8, and it kept me from punching the screen out in the first week. Oh, and the lack of a SSD.

Other Thoughts: When are these computer companies going to realise that they can gain more in customer loyalty by not putting all that Bloatware into these boxes. Seriously, they can't get that much $ from, say, Norton and the like. It is so much trouble to try an remove all this garbage, and even then little popups recur even after you think you have removed every last little digit from the registry . . . Who here, reading this, would not be more inspired to buy a laptop or phone that read, "Clean install, No Bloatware to rob your memory and performance" . . .

5 out of 5 eggsFollow-up

Pros: - Little Bloatware
- CPU self OC to constant 3.2 and max of 3.4
- Easy plug and play ram and SSD
- Powerful GPU (unlike reviews show)

Cons: - The CPU still does get hot under stress tests BUT I still cannot feel the heat on the computer case

Other Thoughts: I wanted to follow-up on my first reviews so people have a bit more perspective on things after having this computer for about a month.

When I switched from my HDD (2X500GB in the computer) to my SDD (Samsung 840 Pro) the copy process was flawless and ultra simple. Go to their website and download the "Samsung data migration" program and not Norton Ghost (save you the trouble as there is no CD Key for that program given to us).

I noticed people having issues with Win8 (even thinking of upgrading to win8 pro) and am baffled because it's been running better than Win7 (even when I had the regular HDD). If you are having issues with webpages (or other programs) bugging out, remember to have Flash, Java, and whatever explorer and programs you use up to date. Don't be a tool and blame the hardware when YOU fail (I have never ran into significant/unresolvable compatibility issues... what on earth are you guys trying to run? programs from 1995?!). remember, there is always the possibility of running programs in "compatibility" mode. It's worked for me on some old games.

My only problem is overclocking the GPU. I can't seem to find any solid information on this specific GPU, and whenever I try to OC, the computer becomes unstable, even if it's a small OC. The only thing I THINK it could be, is the software that Samsung has in the computer doing OC's on it's on making them conflict.

Game wise, I haven't played a game YET that isn't easily maxed at 1920x1080 with 8x AA (multi sampling that is) and 16x AF, EXCEPT for Metro 2033 and I think that might be because the engine itself has a hard time rendering all that stuff. For example, WoW maxed (but no AA) doesn't ever drop below 30 fps and most of the time stays at a steady 60

Other than that, it's a very nice rig :) especially when an SSD is in it with 16GB of ram >:D

1 out of 5 eggsGet laptop-horrible support!

Pros: technical performance is wonderful, everything is uber fast. This thing will eat up heavy and intensive processes. Any game, you name it. SolidWorks runs swimmingly. I'm an orange guy, so the look is great to me. Aesthetically it's nice, keyboard works well, nice and roomy. Touch pad isn't anything special. The modeshift is pretty cool, gamer mode gives you an overclocked processor and streamlined ability.

Cons: -It's big, but I don't mind one bit.
-It's battery life sucks (3-4 hours on eco mode) but I'm never too far away from an outlet. No big deal.

-Windows 8. This is were Samsung REALLY dropped the ball. THIS is why I give this laptop a 1/5. Samsung doesn't support win8. All their drivers are for windows 7 (as of 2/25/13) Over the coarse of a week I figured this out after repetitive game crashes (once every five minutes) and even the display driver killing the computer while watching youtube full screen. It's unusable. It took a phone call and 3 support chats to get the answer: Samsung hasn't made win8 drivers yet, and they don't know when they will

Other Thoughts: Just make the drivers and I'll be happy. I shouldn't have to restart this beast of a laptop because of a 720p full screen youtube video.

4 out of 5 eggsSamsung seires 7

Pros: I purchased this computer about a week ago to upgrade from my G73, it came with Windows 8 which I'm not a fan of so i downgraded it to Windows 7. The 1920x1080 screen on this laptop is amazing, I have never owned a laptop with such a good 17" screen before. The Radeon 7870m HD is a great graphics card I have to admit I was a little worried at first because I have always used Nvida graphics cards, but after I loaded gw2 I maxed out all possible graphics settings in the game and got an average of 22-28 fps which for a laptop is pretty good for a new game.

Cons: Like all computers they have cons, one of the biggest problems I had was when I downgraded to windows 7 because you will not get windows 8 off this computer without a fight, mainly because windows 8 uses a secure boot mode and makes it difficult to remove. Another problem I have is when I change the computer to gaming mode it sets the screen saver to start after 1 min and every time I change it to 15-30 mins after reboot it resets it to one minute, but of course I its an issue with the gamer mode software and not the computer.

Other Thoughts: I payed $1,229.00 for this computer I guess it was on sale at the time and for that price it was a great deal. The best compare I have to this laptop would be the Asus G75 which is a great computer but this one is about the same price and the screen quality is way better

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Amazing

Pros: - Powerful CPU (Samsung self OC to CONSTANT 3.2-3.4Ghz).
- Powerful GPU (Don't listen to what the reviews say, this is WAY more powerful than people are reporting as of Catalyst 12.10).
-Quick SSD does increase the boot speed and random speed.
- USB 3.0 ports seem to "boost" the speed of my USB 2.0 HDD's (around 39-42Mb up/down).
-Amazing screen, very clear, nice and bright (not intense white out like, no dark spots) and fast (no ghosting like cheaper model screens).

Cons: While the case of the computer itself doesn't get hot, the CPU (under intelburnv2) does reach up to 100 degrees. While it doesn't seem to affect the stability of the computer (from what I can see in games and random stuff on the desktop) it does bother me as the max temp is supposed to be 105 degrees (Celsius). It is also important to mention that I have a Zalman ZM-NC3500 cooling it with an ambient room temp of about 70 degrees (Fahrenheit).

Other Thoughts: This computer DOES have a 16Gb SSD but it does not show it in the "My Computer" window (I'm assuming it's integrated or something). Do not believe what the reviews of this card post for performance. With the 12.10 Catalyst drivers, I can max Skyrim with Ultra details, 16x AF, 8x AA and FXAA at 1920x1080, same thing for company of heroes. The 13.1 and 13.2 are directly focused on improving the performance of the 7000m series (even though the 13.1 drivers are a bit bugged). Another important point to mention, I opened the laptop to upgrade the ram to 16Gb and change one of the two HDD's (forgot that, yeah it's 2 500Gb HDD's) with a Samsung 840 Pro SSD and noticed that each HDD has a label (HDD1, HDD2) and there are only two slots VISIBLE to upgrade the ram. I have no idea how to reach the other two sticks of ram. Otherwise it's all plug and play. Last note, Win8 is not buggy, fast, but it's just different, not in a bad way, just different. Stop complaining, it's actually kind of neat! Oh and REAL last note, the switch to go from power saver, balanced, eco, and gamer works. When you switch from the three "regular" modes to gamer, the laptop applies a new wallpaper, mouse icon, activates the turbo mode (the constant 3.2Ghz thing) and does help games a bit. Overall, this computer has been great.

I purchased the laptop Feb 7, 2013 at a price of $1,249 (seems like the price went back up).
