1 out of 5 eggsSamsung doesn't care

Pros: Small form factor. I was excited to see a full PC inside of a tablet.

Cons: -Defective Keyboard Dock/Screen Connector
-Samsung maintains there is no defect.
-Defective Intel chipset software that causes 100% CPU usage unless USB 3.0 port is disabled.

The connection between the keyboard dock and screen is obviously defective. The problem has gotten progressively worse to the point where the keyboard dock is literally useless. The slightest movement will disconnect and reconnect the keyboard repeatedly making it impossible to type.

From what I've read, Samsung's answer has been "There is no defect" and "Send the entire unit in for inspection" when even a cursory look at google indicates a massive number of people reporting faulty keyboard dock connections.

The reason I can't send the unit in for replacement is because I work for a living and use the laptop to perform my job functions. To be without my computer for even one business day would be a major inconvenience, 2 weeks would be suicide.

To send in the entire unit because of Samsung's refusal to admit design flaw essentially punishes me and placates a company actively engaging in deceptive business practices.

Rather than be reasonable and admit a mistake in design, and send replacements, they'll just benefit from the promotion of suspicious reviews from people who specifically say there's definitely nothing wrong with the keyboard dock/screen connection.

HMMM.... What's cheaper Samsung, having integrity, or losing customers?

Major disappointment.

Other Thoughts: I was a huge Samsung advocate for the longest time but now I'm looking at competitors, I'd rather roll the dice with anyone else than take another chance with Samsung.

4 out of 5 eggsNothing else like it.

Pros: Usb port, s pen, The wacom style pressure sensitive screen used with sketchbook pro is a real game changer. and the reason I got this rather than a laptop. I can plug an asus xtion into the usb port and do a 3d scan of a room another game change when the software catches up with the hard ware. I'm gettng really tight point clouds.
I am able to plug in a keyboard and mouse at work and use it for emails and office stuff at my desk keeping the workstation free to do the heavy applications.

Cons: The video camera has some kind of smart blur dry brush effect that I am unable to disable. I've spent a lot time and I cannot figure out how to get normal looking video footage from this.
the wireless adapter driver is faulty , had to uninstall it so it defaulted to the windows driver. then I had to disable the auto update feature so it didn't keep coming back. took some aggravating hours to figure this out.

Other Thoughts: Oh yeah - windows 8 is such a nightmare. really bad. classic shell just makes things worse.

4 out of 5 eggsSamsung ATIV Smart PC Pro Review

Pros: Full windows 8 tablet faster then its predecessor the Samsung Series 7 Slate with non if its flaws. Battery life is around 5 hours screen seems very bright even at 50%, keyboard is good for typing a little cramped though pen can held inside of the tablet. Good for digital art no lag when I'm painting images of doing 3d sculpting on zbrush. I've been able to get saints row 3 to play fairly well on this thing at low setting. Compatible with other wacom pens

Cons: I rewiews about the keyboard disconnecting and it does happen on this slate if you don't really force the keyboard in until you hear a little click. once you hear the click your good but if you dont then the keyboard will disconnect constantly and might even fall out.

Windows store's apps count of insignificant I am looking into installing an android emulator on this slate as well as a ps2 emulator.

Windows 8 isn't exactly a joy to use right out of the box but with heavy 3rd party software additions from stardock.com and xwidget.com it is ALOT easier to use, when the software from those two websites youll be able to set this tablet up like it is running windows seven with the start menu and a scrolling desktop of icons. Still missing the touch flicks feature that windows 7 had though.
Although I like having the pen inside the tablet it is the worst digital pen I've ever used in my life even the pen in my galaxy note 2 is larger and easier to use and hold. I'd recommend that you buy a full sized pen from wacom if you'r a serious digital artist.

Other Thoughts: overall this a good slate for a digital artist or note taker since it has the digital pen functionality.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: My wife has an IPAD 2, and those things make me gag, Mercifully a PC tablet. Got what I expected. Its a nice hybrid PC, has versatility to run the apps I need on the go (0ffice), (some light CAD), and the occasional game - I've seen a reviewer say he had skyrim working with reduced settings, not sure about that, it handles morrowind where its playable but not smooth.

Other non 3-d games wont be a problem. Zombie vs plants - all good.

Decent performance for video playback.

Stylus is great, both with writing to text recognition and drawing.

Cons: The keyboard/tablet combo is a little treacherous. Often I find the tablet tipping backwards, Although it can be held from the corners its not a rigid build, its certainly has some flex to it, the keyboard's docking bay for the tablet is sturdy once firmly clicked into place. Getting it into place is somewhat fiddly, 4 out of 5 times I find the unit seperating, even tho the unit yields a positive click so minus 1 egg.

Next is a real peeve, new egg has two listings of this product, same model numbers, 1 with a keyboard thats cheaper, second without a keyboard.... thats more expensive 0.o - the former comes with windows 8 64 bit, the latter comes with windows 8 pro. Seeing as the product title is listed as Smart PC Pro, its a little misleading -another egg.

The keyboard's tracking pad/clicking action leads to a lot of mis-directed application clicks, opening the wrong file etc - this needs massive improvement.
The screen reflects light like a goldfish bowl, makes the unit hard to use outside.

Other Thoughts: Battery life - for light work 6-8 hours, for serious work, 3 hours, attaching external peripherals can eat into this seriously. Needs a second battery in the keyboard

4 out of 5 eggsFits my needs perfectly!

Pros: Stylish, fast

Cons: Keyboard is too heavy and not backlit for this price.

Other Thoughts: I needed something small which I could do some work with. I originally had a netbook but it was simply too slow. This fits the bill nicely. I don't get the reviews that say that the keyboard should be heavier because it is too top heavy. Do they realize the keyboard is already 1.6lbs!? That is about the weight of the tablet itself! I had no issues with the disconnecting keyboard. I am going to get a cover/stand combo and a backlit, bluetooth keyboard to supplement this.

4 out of 5 eggsPragmatic user perspective

Pros: Keyboard Dock: Sturdy. Succeeds in making this a laptop when needed.

Speed: This thing is fast. Boot time is less than 10 seconds. I'm talking about a cold start here, not a wake-up. It's almost like driving a sports car. Ask it to do something and it replies to you "Is that it?" condescendingly.

Extra storage capacity: Installed a 32 gig MicroSD to alleviate its limited HD capacity (listed as a con). However, wanting more than a 128 primary makes no sense unless you're a software-install packrat, or someone who likes to hold months worth of movies you'll never watch on the C drive.

USB3: Neat little feature. Not sure as to call this a plus as much as I'm unsure whether to call the 2 USB2's on the keyboard and 1 USB on the optional cradle a Con. It depends on the use. An average of 400 megabit/s bottleneck is not a big deal when dealing with about 80 gigs free storage space. However, it's understandable if you anticipate being in enough hurry most of the time.

Touch/Inking: Unparalleled. And don't under-estimate the size of the wimpy stylus it includes like I did. Because like me, you'll drool when you first use it. Some people claim it's cumbersome to take the stylus out of its slot. I haven't come across this problem and even think had they made it any easier, it would be falling out on its own by force of gravity alone.

Win8 (Also listed as a con): Very touch/tablet friendly.

Solid feel: Although mostly plastic exterior, it's high quality plastic.

WiDi and TPM security: I'm not sure how this works or if this model includes it so can't express my thoughts on these features.

Cons: Optional Dock: Overpriced and missing practical features essential to making this thing a true desktop replacement. Among these are HDMI, Sound, USB3 (only has USB2), 10/100 Ethernet (outdated technology for those aware of Gigabit). Last time I checked, Samsung's website states this thing has Gigabit Ethernet, but nor the tablet, keyboard or optional Dock (capping at 100 not 1000 gigabits) have that option.

Storage Space: Although 128 GB might not bother many, the fact that it's really around 120 gigs might, or the fact that 120 gigs gets partitioned to 110-ish by the restore partition, and 110 loses about 30 gigs to OS making it about 80 gigs left.

No Eraser on stylus: Although there are cheap knockoff styli out there with erasers, they sacrifice their inking accuracy substantially. Luckily, item N82E16834989138 on NewEgg solves this problem for those whose wallets have more fight left in them.

Win8: If you're the type of person who disliked Windows 8 before testing it, you'll like it less after you do. It has a considerable learning curve our touch-and-go generation can find overwhelming.

The Infamous Keyboard Disconnects: Most talked about con. Did happen to me the first few days, but not anymore after a 2 week break-in. Your experience might vary.

Other keyboard disadvantages: Top-heavy. Take my word on it and don't learn this the hard way.

HD/Ram/Battery upgradeability: None. The device is designed as sealed as most tablets out there.

Not that many aftermarket options available yet: As of the writing of this review, there are no 700T-specific protective cases out there available for it. The price of the hard-cover sold by Samsung will likely give you a case of buyer's remorse. The 500T version already has options, but that model came out earlier, so we'd just have to wait and see.

Exposure to insults: You'll have to learn to keep your cool when someone refers to your system as "Just a tablet", or even worse, tell you "Oh, my iPad can do that." I've found that taking a few deep breaths and turning the other cheek -sometimes- works.

Lack of "cool" factor: Not backed by any good looking celebrities in tight jeans or bathing suits, but geeky average-looking (at best) business type guys. The Samsung brand on the back is too long for you to cover up with, say, the iconic Apple sticker.

Other Thoughts: Final thoughts:

Got from MS Store, that's why I'm not listed a verified owner. I was too dumb/impatient to wait 2 days. The extra money I spent in taxes could have easily covered the yearly Shoprunner membership.

If you're looking to email, watch movies, and just play, this is not for you as you'll only be taking advantage of about 10% of what this thing can do. If you want to do more, here are some ideas off the top of my head: Can replace a desktop PC (if you're not into heavy games), replace your iOS/Android tablet, the need for pen/paper, sometimes replaces need for a printer (i.e. if someone emails you anything to sign you can do so on the screen itself and email back), replaces a conventional laptop, you can use it to jailbreak your iPhone/iPad or sell your iPad and replace it altogether (too big to replace your iPhone though), you can even run a business if you install MS Office and know Excel/Access etc.

The lack of aftermarket options is the price one pays for owning a product that's practical as opposed to popular.

Didn't mention PRICE as a con because, to be fair, there's nothing out there in the market which can match its features at a better price. Closest I found was the Surface Pro, which is at the same price range. Any other device you can -fairly- compare today with this is either more expensive or lacks key technology (i.e. stylus). You can't compare the battery life this thing has to an Android or iOS device any more you can compare 10 hours of movie-watching to 6 hours of productive work. Furthermore I'll add that after selling everything this thing replaces, some can recover a considerable amount of the investment. This is without including the potential for this thing to pay for itself when used to produce content that can be sold.

Took one egg out more out of principle since I found the cons have available workarounds. Even the missing HDMI on the optional dock can be alleviated by an aftermarket USB2-HDMI adapter, and the missing audio jack can be addressed with Bluetooth Speakers/headset. As far as the gigabit is concerned, you can try to convince yourself that you shouldn't be in such a hurry to transfer large amounts of data especially since this thing has relatively small storage space anyway.

At the end of the day, if you experience buyers remorse after buying this thing, you likely had more important places to send your money and/or didn't need it in the first place. After three weeks, I have yet to regret my purchase, but needs vary. Either way hope this review helps anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsAn Artists point of view

Pros: I bought this device mainly for doing artwork (Photoshop, 3Ds max, Sketchbook pro, Corel draw etc...)
Anyone who is into art, knows it's better to draw with your hands than moving a mouse.

I'm very happy with this device, I've used Wacom tablets in the past. This device also has the Wacom digitizer and pressure sensitivity. Screen is very sharp and UI is very responsive.

Cons: The WI-FI disconnects when it goes to sleep, sometimes it will disconnect for no apparent reason. It will not reconnect no matter how much i try. (Very frustrating). I have to restart Windows. I'm not sure if its a Windows8 thing or Bad antennae from Samsung.

Battery dies way too quickly and takes way too long to recharge.

The screen is too smooth so drawing can get a bit tough unless you get the right Stylus tip.

Windows 8 can get very annoying to use, Firefox on this tablet is just useless. The Internet Expl that came with it is much better.

I Don't use the Keyboard that came with it so i dont have to worry about the keyboard-disconnection issues that people are having.

Other Thoughts: I bought this device just for the sake of doing art work. I'm very happy with it so far. The major complains i have are: Bad Wifi and smooth screen.
The screen is so glossy that I bought an Anti-Glare screen protector to create a little resistance when drawing. Doesn't feel as good as paper but it's a little improvement. I ordered some Hard-felt Nibs and Flex Nibs for my Stylus. When they arrive, i hope they create more resistance.

Overall, Very good device and i strongly recommend it for Any Artist who wants an alternate to Wacom's very expensive Cintiq lines.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my needs

Pros: Form factor is great. Very light and portable. Laptop mode is great for productivity. Keyboard feels good. Tablet mode is great for goofing off. The screen looks great. I am enjoying Windows 8 and the touch features. With the SSD, I feel like the computer is always on. My TV takes longer to turn on than the computer does. Overall, this is the product I was looking for. I have not used it much, but the stylus is really neat.

Cons: I wish there was a battery in the keyboard. As with this type of product, it is a bit top heavy. I like Windows 8, but I wish there was better integration between the desktop and "new UI." Also, backlighting in the keyboard would be nice. The port covers are tolerable, but a bit annoying.

Other Thoughts: Despite the cons above, the only real issue I see is the lack of bettery in the keyboard. I knew about that going in, but wanted to comment here. The screen is small, but that keeps the size and weight down. As I age a bit, the text might become too small, but it works great for me now. I transitioned from a 9lb gaming laptop to this, and I am very happy. This PC is living up to my expectations. I have not had any issues with the keyboard connecting or staying connected when docked. I am mobile at work and home, and it works great. The battery life is not tablet-like, it is laptop-like. I get 4-5 hours when online using a BT mouse, less when playing games. I am not at all dissapointed. Windows 8 is different, but not bad. I am not sure why it has received all the bad press. If you want a small, light convertible that has 4-5 hrs battery life running full blown Windows...this is the machine for you....until the next best thing is released.
