5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Laptop/Ultrabook for Developer or any work!

Pros: Super light, boots up in 5 seconds. I removed few of the software offers, and cleaned up the install, and it runs perfectly, and I get 8-10 hours battery live. I am a software developer, and run Visual Studio, IIS, Web servers, SQL server, MySQL server and so on, no problems at all.

Cons: The only cons I see is they should have created a micro SD slot, vs, the full SD size card on the side. When you put a card in it, it protrudes and can easily be lost; it also takes away from the beautiful overall compactness of the device.

Other Thoughts: I have Surface and Surface 2, and was thinking about the Surface 3, but for about the same cost, I got this, and am pretty happy about the choice.

3 out of 5 eggsGood hardware but software is not ready

Pros: Build quality is excellent, the best one I ever seen. Aluminum frame makes it very sturdy.
Screen is high quality with resolution close to 4k.
Dedicated proprietary port for build-in gigabit network so it is not using valuable USB ports and doesn't require new device detection every time you connect the network adapter.
Battery life is good, not great partially because of high resolution screen.
Almost no bloatware, used Revo Uninstaller to get rid of them.
Acronis 2014 can be used to do full disk image of the system along with all installed programs but you have to disable Fast Boot/Fast BIOS/SecureBoot and set OS Mode Selection to UEFI & CSM OS. Once image is ready, reset back to BIOS defaults. Unlike Samsung's recovery, Acronis will give you an option to restore whole system along with all your installed/activated programs after complete system failure from image previously created.
Speakers are amazing for such a thin body and very loud compared with my old Sony ultrabooks, so no problems with Skype calls anymore.
Paired with with Logitech Ultrathin BT mouse, works much better than the trackpad.
Very quiet, rarely can hear fans spinning under normal work conditions but ait depends what you're doing...

Cons: With Windows 8.1 scaling, you're probably getting effective resolution of 1600x900 on this amazing screen on programs that "understand" high resolution. The ones that cannot scale properly are unusable because the text on menus/buttons is either too time so it cannot be read even with glasses, or too big so it cannot fit menu/buttons.
The lid (display) it difficult to open with one hand, you may have to hold the bottom of ultrabook with other hand, otherwise it will lift the whole device.
Just a single SSD, Sony uses two in RAID0 and it is faster.
New i7-4500u Haswell CPU while it is more energy efficient is slower (about 10-15%) than 3 year old i7-2640M in my Vaio.
It is also around 300g heavier than Vaio Z2.
There is a problem with a trackpad that even after all updates sometimes stops recognizing anything on upper half of it and computer must be restarted to restore normal operations (and yes, I've tried calibration and updated the firmware/driver).
Only 8GB memory, enough for most things but not enough if you're running virtual machines as I do when I need to test something while on the go. i7 CPU is dual core with HT so do not expect miracles!
I think I saw that there is Toshiba SSD inside, would like to see equivalent of Samsung's own 840 Pro series instead.

Other Thoughts: Bought this Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus NP940X3G-K04US as a replacement to my 3 year old Vaio Z2 in a hope I'll get faster computer, better screen that can show me remote desktops via teamviewer/logmein and more time running on battery. Well, the hardware is good, but Windows 8.1 and other software I use regularly (like Adobe CS6, Lightroom, NetScan tools, Firefox and many many others) is simply not ready for resolutions beyond FullHD and 2560x1600 in some cases, especially on 13" screen. Windows 8.1 is doing better in terms of scaling compared with 8.0 but there is still alot to be desired.
After struggling with this ultrabook for two days, installing all software I regularly use, testing various screen font sizes etc. I had no choice but return it for refund. It is simply not usable for abything but IE and just a few programs. I am going to use my old Vaio until probably Windows 9 (and to give software companies time to adapt their software to 4k screens) or will purchase something with a resolution 1920x1080. I was also considering ASUS UX301LA XH72T but given my experience with Windows 8.1 I will wait until everything is ready and scales as it should on resolutions beyond FullHD.

2 out of 5 eggsToo slow for photo processing

Pros: thin, gorgeous, awesome screen. Light. very portable. But form has to follow function in a situation like this... Cons outweigh the pros unfortunately. Im heartbroken cuz I like the computer but it just has to go back.

Cons: Too slow for photo processing, which is what attracted me to the hi Res screen. It is a shame it doesnt have a faster processor. Im sending it back. Doesnt work well with Lightroom, and Photoshop is useless not only because it runs too slow, but believe it or not Photoshop UI doesn't work with hi resolution monitors this size!!!

Other Thoughts: It is a shame it doesnt have faster CPU. Other than that, and Photoshop problems (which is actually an Adobe problem - nothing to do with this machine) it is an incredible ultrabook

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent in all respects

Pros: Screen is beautiful CPU is fast, movies stream wonderfully; dictation is a breeze. But most importantly Samsung service is excellent. I previously had an Asus 301L. To upgrade the drivers required accessing their website and downloading them one by one the tedious proposition that I've been through many times before keeping their motherboards up-to-date. With Samsung it is seamless, question update button and the software will download and install updates including two BIOS with no client intervention required. Their online support is equally highly valued. I have not had to wait more than five minutes to be patched to a technician who can answer my questions. I have accuse Sony, Dell, and Hewlett-Packard laptops before. Nobody even comes close to providing this level of service.

Cons: Why only four stars? Inexplicably Samsung has left the AC generation of Wi-Fi off the machine.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome hardware, bad OS

Pros: Thin and light. FAST! Lots of RAM and HD space. Gorgeous screen (great for showing off photography while mobile)

Cons: Can't easily upgrade the HD to something larger. Windows 8.1 which is such a failure of an OS I almost didn't buy it. It constantly bounces you between the new touch and classic desktop interfaces. That's why 4 eggs instead of 5.

Other Thoughts: Hit F4 on boot and create a Factory Image to a 16 GB USB stick!!!! No installation media comes with it, so this will get you back working if things go horribly wrong. Listing is WRONG - it does NOT come with the VGA dongle.

What's shown in the picture is the NETWORK dongle. With everything today using HDMI you don't need the VGA dongle anyway. It has a standard micro-HDMI port which I already had a cable for.
