Great for Modding
- Pros: Keyboard is very nice size i don't have to go into the pickle jar position to type my name.
Great mods for it Ram, Bluetooth, HDD, touch screen, bigger battery, you name it, it fits. memory slots makes it veryversitile with Different OS's.
- Cons: drivers are a bit hard to come by if you don't know how to look. (internet driers are more compatible)
touch pad is a bit small (you will never go across the screen in one swipe) only 2 usb ports and there not together. Gets freaking HOT if you accidentally cover the CPU vent.
- Other Thoughts: a 2 GB Dimm can solve the shared Video card problem.
Battery life should be improved. i recommend installing the Bluetooth antenna and getting a BT-mouse and avoid buying Y usb cable drives (Wont be able to connect them Because usb ports arrent together).
Great Netbook at Great Price
- Pros: PCI Express Slot, Keyboard larger than most others, easy setup and configuration. Light and very portable with great battery life.
This is a great netbook so far. I replaced an old IBM T23 Thinkpad with this as I don't get online as often in my personal time so a netbook seemed reasonable instead of going with a full fledged laptop. I almost went with an Asus Eeepc but seeing those in person, they seemed like a childrens toy with cheap plastic casing, etc. I also wanted some more hard drive space instead of going with a smaller SSD drive, which would of been nice but since I'm no longer a heavy user, the 160GB drive with the Lenovo is adequate for my needs.
Almost all of the netbooks now come with a 1.60GHz Atom processor with 1GB of RAM so it really boiled down to brand name in which IBM/Lenovo has always been my top choice when it comes to laptops for personal use and business use, they're solid and have a good track record.
- Cons: None except the Lenovo label on top of the case seems to be rather cheap. The e on mine started to come off and it wouldn't stay down, I was afraid the portion sticking up would snag on things when the lid was closed so I just pulled it off, no big deal to me. I don't buy a laptop or netbook for the stickers or looks.
- Other Thoughts: Most complaints were about the keyboard size but it's a netbook, it's suppose to be smaller. It only took a couple of hours to really get use to the shift key placement, which a lot of people complained about.
Awesome
- Pros: With stock 1GB RAM, this unit will run MS visual studio 2008 pro and MS Office 2007 Enterprise with no problems. the resolution may be an issue for these apps, but when you add an external VGA monitor these issue are eliminated(You can download a program called NRC - netbook resolution changer) If you can't hook an external monitor.
- Cons: Does not come with a recovery disc which might make sense to some as it doesn't have a cd/dvd drive, but lenovo could have attempted to provide one for those more technically inclined that would know how to use it. I set up ping linux(linux norton ghost port) and tftp32.exe and PXE booted the netbook using the wired lan port to make my own recovery disc.
Windows COA sticker is on top of the harddrive cover and the letters are smudged after 1 month of use. I took a picture of mine right after opening the box. This will probably get removed anyway. The first non-recoverable virus I get I am putting Mac OS X 10.5.6 on it rather than reloading XP home SP3. For those wanting to actually program on this keep in mind that IIS needs Win Xp pro to run. So asp.net web apps can be created but probably not tested.
- Other Thoughts: this is the model that radio shack sells and this is where I got mine. It runs great and performs all tasks fairly well. I thought I would need to upgrade to 2GB right away, but I average around 400-500MB ram free even when using a second monitor and having MS office applications open. Network shares stay connected. The default windows power options are overridden by the lenovo energy performance application, but this program is easier to use imo than the windows form.
