4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop!

Pros: -Price ($399)
-good, fast dual-core processor (can run multiple programs)
-good ram (4GB)
-decent storage
-decent keyboard

Cons: -max ram is 4GB, not expandable
-bad viewing angles
-touchpad good be better
-no HDMI ports, or any other card reader ports
-no bluetooth
-plasticky, a bit cheap on parts... CD drive cover has come off, headphone port is broken, panel over heat sink is broken

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop for $399 in the summer of 2010 to use for college, and still using it in 2014. It has been very reliable and hasn't given me any serious problems at all. After a few years it slows down quite a bit, but keeping up with maintenance helps. Overall a great laptop for the money, but is missing certain features that leaves it from being excellent.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for the price

Pros: Runs 64-bit Win 7 nicely.
Dual-boot with Ubuntu is flawless.
Was impressed with the performance for the price.

Cons: The CD drive cover fell off as soon as I unpacked the laptop. I snapped it back on but it's very loose. Usually picking up the laptop by it's sides causes it to come off again.

The touchpad click buttons are annoyingly loud.

Other Thoughts: I should have sent it right back for the cd cover problem but I didn't want to go through the hassle and then not have a laptop while waiting for a replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: Good laptop for the price, worked great for the first 6 months. Ran win 7 64 bit smoothly along with some computational software.

Cons: After 6 months of sporadic use (2-3 days a week an hr or two a day) it died.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Buy, for my Grandson!

Pros: I got this for my Grandson as he needed a reliable computer to help with school-work! Great price on sale! Even w/o the card reader, it is a great computer. A good, solid laptop! I didn't care for the touchpad, but he has no problem with it. Much better than his old Gateway, that kept breaking down!

Cons: I removed a LOT of Bloatware! Veriface? No he sure didn't need that! I already had a full version Office, and an excellent virus program (good for 3 yrs). took a few days to delete the junk & install all of his school stuff & music files, but he was absolutely delighted with it!

Other Thoughts: I picked up a computer travel kit from Newegg for him for Christmas, has a USB hub, USB light, cardreader, headphones & mouse. That takes care of all the stuff he didn't have.

4 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Snappy processor, 4GB RAM, 64 bit Windows 7, wi-fi on/off switch, excellent display.

Cons: Flimsy case, display res could be better, no built in SD/SDHC reader, no PC Card expansion slots, bloat-ware.

Other Thoughts: This is in no means a bad laptop. My system runs great now that I removed the unneeded applications. Expansion is rather limited w/ only 3 USB ports. This is the fist consumer class Lenovo I have owned and for the sale price I paid for it I am happy with the product I have received.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat notebook for price

Pros: Excellent price and specs, great for the money. My son is a junior in high school and uses it for school related activities. Our home desktop is available for gaming so the notebook did not need to be a power gaming machine. My son is pleased so, so am I.

Cons: None reported so far.

5 out of 5 eggsdan

Pros: other reviews hit the mark accurately: some people might want a bigger hard drive, and it's too weak to handle games, but for everything else it's easily a great deal. I got this laptop in particular because I didn't need more computing power than browsing the web, Word/Access, and watching HD movies, but I wanted it to be fast at what it's for, AND I didn't want to spend much. It may seem like a lot to ask but this laptop delivers.

Cons: the only problem I have with the Fn button is that it is located where Control should be. so if you copy & paste a lot like me you have to remember to be careful.

I don't like how the numpad's delete key doesn't work with numlock on, although there is another delete key close by.

the audio is kind of weak but adequate if you're in a quiet place.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had any heat issues, haven't tested the battery life since I keep it plugged in, and haven't thoroughly tested the webcam but it seems to be on the lower end of quality, but at least it has one!

The touchpad isn't terrible, but not as good as a mouse. If a mouse isn't available it's not that big of a deal.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value, but not perfect

Pros: You get a lot of machine for your money. Win7 64bit, adequate hardware all around - display (I don't game), memory, hard drive. Numpad is an nice extra. Bloatware wasn't too bad.

Cons: Lenovo used hidden hinges which give a clean appearance, but which send the display over the machine's rear edge when it's open, preventing locating any ports there. Consequently all your wires are going to be coming out the sides and even front of the machine. For a desktop replacement laptop, for which docking is de rigor, this is highly dysfunctional design.

Really bad is the lack of an esata port for running an external drive. This means you are relegated to a USB connection, which pales in comparison. There are only 3 usb ports, and no cardreader.

The keyboard is too stiff. The Fn key location is HORRENDOUS.

The touchpad is unsure, its buttons stiff, and it lacks the configuration of synaptics - autoscroll, acceleration, etc. More than a pain, it's dangerous for moving files, etc.

The bios is the worst I've seen; super dumbed-down.

Other Thoughts: Most people cannot go wrong with this machine, on sale from the Egg. Delivery was superfast, and free - a nice extra.

This machine covers all the basics very well, and does it at a great price. What I really appreciate, after coming from Dell Hell in this regard, is the coolness with which it operates. I've found out the hard way that, short of throwing a laptop into a tub of water, heat is its worst enemy.

I thought about toying with VeriFace, but then saw a horror story where a guy was locked out of his computer. I saw that it's set to max discretion out of the box, and uninstalled it immediately.

Win7 is another subject, but for those coming from XP let me just say that it's a mixed bag.

If you're looking for a good, solid laptop, and can do without some more advanced hardware functionality, this machine hits the spot very nicely. And had Lenovo put a little more into design and ports, it would be amazing indeed.

4 out of 5 eggsTerrific Value

Pros: Price Point is unbeatable-
Everything worked right out of the box-
No issues at all with Touch Pad (Lenovo must have fixed that issue)-
Picked up a distant WiFi hs without crashing issues.

I've been a NewEgg Customer for years and I would not buy any computer related stuff anywhere else.

Cons: keyboard has issues with keys/letters skipping across the screen while typing (don't know if I have explained that correctly)

Other Thoughts: For the price ($399) this laptop is a great entry level device.
