4 out of 5 eggsTough, affordable laptop

Pros: Durable, great screen, decent sound, decent webcam, decent hard drive space, decent dual-core processor, decent RAM--overall, good little laptop for the money

Cons: Poor keyboard quality, hard drive only lasted two years before failing, overheats

Other Thoughts: This has been a great laptop for the price. I am HARD on my laptops--I expect performance and durability, and Lenovo has never disappointed me. The only reason I'm replacing my Lenovo after three years of taking everything I dish out as a single mom and freelance writer/editor/artist on the go is because it's not cost-effective to replace the keyboard. The keyboard losing sensitivity over time and the overheating were my biggest gripes. The hard drive failure didn't faze me--since the laptop went through a time where it would overheat and shut off on its own (remedied with a cooling pad and better air conditioning), I wasn't surprised when it failed after two years of hard use. The RAM and processor speed are great if you don't have to run a bunch of programs at once (or have more than a few browser tabs open).

Pros: Capable Machine

Cons: Bought about 8 of these units for my company. Have had a rash of broken screens. Wont be buying these anymore. 2 have broken while simply closing the screen.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality

Pros: It worked extremely well for 12 months and 2 weeks

Cons: Purchased from Newegg 5/16/2011 Died 6/12/2012

Extremely poor construction and quality of materials to only last one year. It simply went blank, try to restart it and it shows power for 10 seconds and then shuts off. Battery still has power but shuts off as well when you try to boot up.

Other Thoughts: This laptop was only used sitting in my living room and checking the web in the evenings. It probably had a total in use time of 75 hours at most.

Truly frustrating to see the quality of todays computers, just treat them as disposables. that's all they are good for.

1 out of 5 eggsI'll never buy Lenovo again

Pros: -Great price for a system with these specifications.
-Nice looking packaging, plenty of memory and ample hard disk space.
-Bright, crisp display and good response, although I don't do any gaming so I never stress the machine.
-Good performance from the 6-cell lithium battery

Cons: -There is no cover latch. Not a big deal but it is a minor inconvenience.
-At almost 6 lbs, it's no lightweight.
-I find the location of the Function key where I'd normally find the Control key (bottomrow all the way on the left) to be awkward.
-The touchpad and its drivers are a disaster. While typing, the cursor would periodically make a random jump to somewhere in the document, and I lost lots of time making corrections. (In fact, it did just that as I was typing this.) I installed the driver fix from Lenovo, but that has not fixed the problem.
-Periodically, without any action on my part, the system would reset, turn itself off and restart...losing my work in the process.

Other Thoughts: After putting up with this aberrant behavior for 5 months, I contacted Lenovo Support after a particularly upsetting loss of data and, after a painfully slow session, I was told I'd have to pay for shipping the machine to Texas. I was also told to expect it to be shipped back no sooner than 7 business days afterr they receive it. Guess I ought to also report that I'm waiting for Lenovo service to deliver and install a new motherboard for the Lenovo desktop that I bought last October. Same problems dealing with Lenovo Support in the Philippines. I expected a lot better from Lenovo, but it's obvious to me that they have serious quality control problems. I won't buy that brand again!

3 out of 5 eggsFan Noise :(

Pros: Very nice entry-level laptop for the money.

Cons: Fan noise is maddening.

Other Thoughts: Over at the Lenovo forum, these things are famous for fan problems. One version has the fan running at 100% after waking from sleep. Another has the fan at 100% on boot. In my case, the fan runs noisily every minute or so, then goes quiet. This happens with the laptop just sitting at idle with nothing but the desktop on.
I'd give it 5 eggs if it didn't have this problem.

3 out of 5 eggsNot that great

Pros: The screen is nice, it's lightweight, and it's fairly attractive.

Cons: Bloatware. Really frustrating Shift-Key on the right side. It's one of those unnaturally small ones that you can't hit very well because it's not the expected/ usual length. The fan makes a high pitched whine that is very painful to the ear.

Other Thoughts: I noticed some people complaining that this laptop didn't have a 5-1 card reader. Well mine does- built into the front right hand side. Unsure what these people were talking about.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome deal!!!

Pros: Price all the way $349. Way less than it should be.

Cons: Crapware that is installed. Runs great after a clean install. Just as good as my T410 but like $600 cheaper!!!

Other Thoughts: I did a clean install of Windows 7 and I am dual booting Linux Mint. Here is some quick information on doing a clean install...

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY - NOT HONORED BY LENOVO!

Pros: Computer worked well until the case started cracking at the hinge points. There was no abuse - wasn't dropped, etc. Had purchased the extended warranty from Lenovo for 3 years.

Cons: Sent the computer back for repair under the extended warranty and found out they would not honor this problem. Wanted $176.00 for repair - will save my money and buy a new computer - probably not a Lenovo next time. Very disappointing customer service - have owned several Lenovos over they years - this will be the last.
