5 out of 5 eggsGood performance Low cost

Pros: Great laptop for the price. The screen is awesome and it was very easy to downgrade (or should I say upgrade...) from Vista to XP which is a plus. This laptop DOES have 2 SoDIMM slots and you can upgrade to 2GB RAM very easily (RAM panel is located on the bottom of the laptop, just need a small Phillips head screwdriver). Also has a dual layer DVD burner and 120 GB SATA HD which are usually on $800+ models. Also looks great and is fairly sturdy for a laptop of its size.

Cons: The included 4-cell battery has pretty poor battery life but thats how HP cut the cost down so low. The realistic life on the 4-cell is about 45-60 minutes. I bought an 8-cell battery for my 530 and I am able to get a solid 2.5 hours out of it while playing a DVD the whole time.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent no-frills business laptop

Pros: - Clean, non-gimmicky design and keyboard layout
- Windows Vista Business (i.e. automatic license for XP "upgrade")
- Minimal Trial-/Nag-/Adware installed
- Full complement of drivers for XP and Vista available from HP
- Excellent screen
- Wireless control button

Cons: - only 2 USB ports (theoretically one can more interface options via PC card), and only on the left side. A third port one the right side would have been great.
- Fan runs pretty frequently even under little load (could possibly be listed under Pros. Depends...) but is inaudible in a normal office environment.

Other Thoughts: For my company's needs this is an excellent work horse. For me personally, I would like more built-in interface options but at the Newegg price I purchased, I am fully satisfied. I love the fact that the computer is not littered with the usual OEM software junk. This means - if one likes Vista - one can pretty much set this machine up right as it comes out of the box, without wasting time on clean-up. Driver support from HP is excellent.

PS: For XP downgrades from Vista, one has to disable Native SATA support in the BIOS in order for the hard drive to be recognized by XP Setup.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst laptop, love it

Pros: I LOVE this laptop. I never had one before, and this is great. When I ordered this, I also ordered an extra gig of ram to bring it to 2 gig. It's zippy enough for me. I only really use it for playing around on the net, my son uses it for his little games. Super nice bright screen, good size too! Very userfriendly and easy to setup.

Cons: None yet! Battery life is kind of short, but I usually plug it in as I'm using it.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Vista runs smooth, not loaded with the usual trial softwares. Looks nice. Touchpad nicely integrated.
Low cost decent business laptop

Cons: Could have more plugs (usb, s-video)
Due to the way the display opens, all sockets are on the side, even the A/C
Does not have a built-in microphone.

Other Thoughts: I bought it mostly because it is one of the only laptops in that price class that comes with an international warranty.
If other manufactures had intl. warranties I had probably taken a different laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsUnit does have 2 SODIMM Slots

Pros: As usual it is a great Hewlett-Packard business laptop. Has everything a business user would want in a good package.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Based on the review about memoty slots I two found two SODIMM slots, but beleve another review is also a bit off track as the unit can only be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM not 4 GB's. This can be found on the website. Will say it was a bit confusing when the specs on one page indicated a single SODIMM slot yet the PDF spec sheed available on the same page indicated two. It does have two slots and can be upgraded to 2 GB's.

5 out of 5 eggsTo clarify previous review

Pros: Excellent notebook. simplicity defined

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: My laptop came with the Core Duo T2300 and 1 gig of RAM. There is room for another stick, and it is supposed to be able to handle up to 4 gigs (2x2 gig). Just because the previous reviewer thought that there was no room based on website stats, I own the laptop and there is room for the memory upgrade.

4 out of 5 eggsJust to clairify

Pros: See other thoughts

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I have been researching for a new laptop and this one caught my eye--until I found out that there is only one memory dimm slot-not just one memory dimm- no, only ONE DIMM SLOT on the board. Info was found on HP's website. So no dual channel here. This info is not listed here on newegg, so I'm posting this for general info.
