5 out of 5 eggsThis one still works but please make an updated one!

Pros: Everything! I've owned this for over 4 years now and it's still a beast! It's perfect for anything I want to do, 20.1" screen is great for editing images and such so you don't need to squint at some little 15" or 17" screen.
Able to do raid with dual sata drives. And more than powerful enough to pull out some gaming anywhere. Can play BF3 with original battery for about an hour still, simple web-surfing allows about 30 min more. It was originally over 2 hours brand new.

Cons: Custom MXM firmware doesn't allow simple graphics card upgrade. But non con for most people who don't ever open up a laptop. only 1680 x 1050 res, but in most cases is more than plenty.

Other Thoughts: i upgraded the CPU to an x9000 and overclocked it to 3.4Ghz, have a 750Gb hybrid drive and a 128gb SSD in it with 8Gb of RAM (for graphics/video editing). Dual booted Vista with windows 7, find the 'dragon owners lounge' forum to find instructions on upgrades, overclocking and the best drivers for this system. Despite being only dual core and 5 years old it still plays most anything out on medium settings at least.

My dragon still does what I need but would love an updated 20.1" laptop. HP please revive such splendor!!! Stick in a GTX 680 and an i7 or an 8 core cpu with 8GB+ of 1600MHZ+ DDR3 and I'll order 2!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsBattery strong as DEATH ITSELF, lol....

Pros: I just wanted to talk about my amazing battery life! I have owned this for over 2.5 years, and the battery, which was already ridiculously strong on a size vs. size ratio, has maintained a charge so consistent that I still get over TWO FULL HOURS of full load use!!!! This is INSANE............ Seriously.... I must confess that I sometimes don't use the Beast for several weeks at a time between periods of heavy use, and I have ALWAYS removed the battery when putting up for a while, as per mfr. rec.. Again, WOW.... Among all the joys I have had owning and using this preposterous "laptop", lol, I cannot get over a battery THAT SMALL doing a job this BIG for THIS LONG....

Cons: Phhbbbbbbbbttttttttt........ Naaaah

Other Thoughts: It's a shame that none will ever read this VERY late review of a product that Newegg hasn't stocked in over 2 years:) And yet, I was compelled to leave it.... What an AMAZING piece of work from an otherwise generally mediocre pc maker.... If you find one of these babies on Eblah, don't hesitate. I'm not saying my experience is typical, but wow....

5 out of 5 eggsZOMG

Pros: 100 out of a 10 this is the perfect laptop. You cannot complain one bit about this great piece of machinery. I have had this laptop for about 3 months, and it has performed at the max ever since i first turned it on. NO problems what so ever, this is also my first time personally experiencing vista on a computer that i have owned and i have yet to find a flaw! Also may i ad that for thos that say this is not a gaming computer, I have successfully and happily played my way through Crysis Warhead with my settings set to Mainstream with out a problem! This laptop is everything i wanted and MORE GREAT PRICE!! WAY TO GO NEWEGG!!!

Cons: NONE... DO NOT complain about the weight, i am more than happy to carry this masterpiece around with me, and what is 15 pounds and a case? NOTHING so get over it, you knew you were buying a 20'' laptop... not a piece of "air"

outstanding graphics,
great blu-ray,
touch keys,
fingerprint scanner,

4 out of 5 eggsThe good, the bad and the Vista 64

Pros: Great hardware, nice bright display, speakers sound great for a laptop. I really don't have any complaints about the hardware. Everything about this thing is huge and seems to work well so far.

Cons: I didn't realize it had Vista 64... As you can probably imagine, I've had driver issues program compatibility issues, this program will not run on this version of Vista issues... For example you use Ntune it will cause Vista to crash, bluescreen and reboot. You can force off the vert synch with Ntune control panel but Vista won't turn it off. I could go on and on about the problems with Vista 64 on this machine.

Another thing worth mentioning. I installed the same game on this computer and an older one running same resolution, graphics detail etc. The old machine has 8800gts/320mb, 2gb Ram, And the older C2d 1.8Ghz running XP pro. Sadly the old machine had much better framerates but I suspect that it's related more to the OS the then hardware.

I contacted HP because at this point I was just going to throw XP on it and live happily ever after. It seems that only some drivers are available for XP.

Other Thoughts: It is BIG and HEAVY. But you probably already know that if you're looking at this one. I would think of it as a desktop replacement not a "laptop"

I gave 4 stars because the hardware/price is nice. I just wish I had the option for XP Pro or none 64bit Vista.

It had a fair about of bloatware. Office trial, HP this and that, M$ works etc, but wasn't too bad overall.

4 out of 5 eggsEntertainer, not a Gamer

Pros: This is an awesome entertainment laptop. It is not a gamer laptop. However, it is capable of handling ALMOST everything you throw at it. 20.1” LCD display with 1680x1050 Res, NVIDIA 8800M GTS, 4GB RAM, Blue-Ray Disc Player, touch sensitive multimedia panel, remote control, HDMI output, e-SATA, and very stylish.

Currently playing COH Gold Edition all high settings at about 30 FPS. Crysis in medium settings, WIC, MOHA, COD4, all look great!

Cons: HP support technicians aren’t very technical or helpful. I was trying to find out if this baby will support newer CPU with 1066MHz FSB. One of the technicians actually thanked me for helping her…I thought they were there to help me! LOL Long story short, this computer is an Entertainer, not a Gamer. It does not support CPU with 1066MHz or 800MHz DDR2…don’t waste your time or your money. For reference see www.
NOTICE: Check the specs on the notebook chipset and not the desktop. Also, HP could have thrown a 7200RMP HDD instead of a 5400RPM. Last, but not least, it came with a stuck/dead pixel about an inch off the right hand edge of the screen right in the middle. It would have been ok if it was at the upper or lower portion of the screen (4 eggs for location of dead pixel). This annoys me when watching movies. Oh…almost forgot…lots of bloatware…be prepared to uninstall. No restoration discs.

Other Thoughts: If you are planning to do any upgrades, the best thing you can do is purchase a 7200 RPM HDD and use the one that came with this laptop as extra storage and “throw it” in the other available bay. Someone mentioned that you need a mounting bracket…I cannot verify…I have yet to put this baby apart. As far as carrying case goes, I got a Targus oversize bag for 17” laptop. After leaving this monstrosity in there for a day, the bag was stretched and had no problems ever since (before I had to stretch the bag a little. I’m currently deployed in Iraq; this bag fits my laptop, protein shakes, games, snacks, etc. It’s about 30lbs. altogether. People, please, don’t complain about the weight, come on…it’s a 20” laptop, what do you expect! If you can’t handle lugging around 20 pounds go to the gym, see a doctor, or buy a netbook instead…or perhaps, all of the above. Lastly…I don’t think it’s worth forking out 300+ for a T9300. Seriously, what is 0.40MHz and 3MB L2 Cache is going to do for you?

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome machine

Pros: Everything about it works as a desktop in mobile configuration!!! Worked right out of box with no issues and no dead pixels and was delivered in brown box to hide content, was delivered in 3 days from purchase. I also purchased an additional HD and also arrived same day on different tracking.

Cons: only thing is the weight but I knew that before purchase. It doesnt sit well on lap for long to need to move it.

5 out of 5 eggsHP HDX9494NR - excellent product

Pros: Fast, clean and quite. I'm not a heavey gamer but the few I do play run nicely on this box. HP has done a fantastic job including just about everything you could need from the start. Vista 64 was not the headache I expected it to be in regards to running older apps and external devices. Love the touch sensitive controls and fingerprint reader with password manager.

Cons: Cannot find a backpack style case with all the handy extra pockets to carry it around with when I do go mobile.

Other Thoughts: Uninstalled most of the 3rd party "extras".
HP support site lets you download the tech manuals for this monster.

5 out of 5 eggsHP Pavilion HDX9494NR

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Machine

Pros: Screen size and resolution, graphics, blu-ray, full keyboard, so simple, everything works together, it has replaced my desktop for all work. Runs COD 4 and Crysis at 1050 with no lag. As a soldier having the HD tuner integrated saves me on plugs and desk space.

Cons: processor could be faster, and I had to upgrade quickplay to run blu-ray profile 1.1

Other Thoughts: It's big, I knew it was big, but that couldn't prepare me for the size when I received it. If you want a portable, don't get it, if you want a powerhouse, this is for you.

5 out of 5 eggs28" Pavilon Laptop

Pros: Big machine, I use it as a desktop, 28 lbs is maneuverable but in comparison to what? Beautiful screen, nice sw setup, and fast enough for normal family use. No problems with software setup, which is not my normal windows experience. Kudos to HP, very nice! Actually I compare this strongly to my Mac, very unusual for a win pc. Very nice hw/sw setup.

Cons: Back breaker if your going to haul it around, and I do mean haul. This thing was so problem free that I spent hours looking for ghosts of past experience if you can call that a negative.

Other Thoughts: This is not a game machine, but for normal work and home computing. I'd have to say aces. To heap insult to injury, this thing is extremely quiet, just not my normal pc/win experience. If u want a Mac like PC, this is the hummer. Smooth as melted butter!
