ZOMG
- Pros: 100 out of a 10 this is the perfect laptop. You cannot complain one bit about this great piece of machinery. I have had this laptop for about 3 months, and it has performed at the max ever since i first turned it on. NO problems what so ever, this is also my first time personally experiencing vista on a computer that i have owned and i have yet to find a flaw! Also may i ad that for thos that say this is not a gaming computer, I have successfully and happily played my way through Crysis Warhead with my settings set to Mainstream with out a problem! This laptop is everything i wanted and MORE GREAT PRICE!! WAY TO GO NEWEGG!!!
- Cons: NONE... DO NOT complain about the weight, i am more than happy to carry this masterpiece around with me, and what is 15 pounds and a case? NOTHING so get over it, you knew you were buying a 20'' laptop... not a piece of "air"
- Other Thoughts: WONDERFUL!! COMPLETELY WONDERFUL!!
outstanding graphics, great blu-ray, touch keys, fingerprint scanner, BUILT IN REMOTE
PERFECT
The good, the bad and the Vista 64
- Pros: Great hardware, nice bright display, speakers sound great for a laptop. I really don't have any complaints about the hardware. Everything about this thing is huge and seems to work well so far.
- Cons: I didn't realize it had Vista 64... As you can probably imagine, I've had driver issues program compatibility issues, this program will not run on this version of Vista issues... For example you use Ntune it will cause Vista to crash, bluescreen and reboot. You can force off the vert synch with Ntune control panel but Vista won't turn it off. I could go on and on about the problems with Vista 64 on this machine.
Another thing worth mentioning. I installed the same game on this computer and an older one running same resolution, graphics detail etc. The old machine has 8800gts/320mb, 2gb Ram, And the older C2d 1.8Ghz running XP pro. Sadly the old machine had much better framerates but I suspect that it's related more to the OS the then hardware.
I contacted HP because at this point I was just going to throw XP on it and live happily ever after. It seems that only some drivers are available for XP.
- Other Thoughts: It is BIG and HEAVY. But you probably already know that if you're looking at this one. I would think of it as a desktop replacement not a "laptop"
I gave 4 stars because the hardware/price is nice. I just wish I had the option for XP Pro or none 64bit Vista.
It had a fair about of bloatware. Office trial, HP this and that, M$ works etc, but wasn't too bad overall.
Entertainer, not a Gamer
- Pros: This is an awesome entertainment laptop. It is not a gamer laptop. However, it is capable of handling ALMOST everything you throw at it. 20.1” LCD display with 1680x1050 Res, NVIDIA 8800M GTS, 4GB RAM, Blue-Ray Disc Player, touch sensitive multimedia panel, remote control, HDMI output, e-SATA, and very stylish.
Currently playing COH Gold Edition all high settings at about 30 FPS. Crysis in medium settings, WIC, MOHA, COD4, all look great!
- Cons: HP support technicians aren’t very technical or helpful. I was trying to find out if this baby will support newer CPU with 1066MHz FSB. One of the technicians actually thanked me for helping her…I thought they were there to help me! LOL Long story short, this computer is an Entertainer, not a Gamer. It does not support CPU with 1066MHz or 800MHz DDR2…don’t waste your time or your money. For reference see www. intel.com/products/notebook/chipsets/pm965/pm965-overview.htm
NOTICE: Check the specs on the notebook chipset and not the desktop. Also, HP could have thrown a 7200RMP HDD instead of a 5400RPM. Last, but not least, it came with a stuck/dead pixel about an inch off the right hand edge of the screen right in the middle. It would have been ok if it was at the upper or lower portion of the screen (4 eggs for location of dead pixel). This annoys me when watching movies. Oh…almost forgot…lots of bloatware…be prepared to uninstall. No restoration discs.
- Other Thoughts: If you are planning to do any upgrades, the best thing you can do is purchase a 7200 RPM HDD and use the one that came with this laptop as extra storage and “throw it” in the other available bay. Someone mentioned that you need a mounting bracket…I cannot verify…I have yet to put this baby apart. As far as carrying case goes, I got a Targus oversize bag for 17” laptop. After leaving this monstrosity in there for a day, the bag was stretched and had no problems ever since (before I had to stretch the bag a little. I’m currently deployed in Iraq; this bag fits my laptop, protein shakes, games, snacks, etc. It’s about 30lbs. altogether. People, please, don’t complain about the weight, come on…it’s a 20” laptop, what do you expect! If you can’t handle lugging around 20 pounds go to the gym, see a doctor, or buy a netbook instead…or perhaps, all of the above. Lastly…I don’t think it’s worth forking out 300+ for a T9300. Seriously, what is 0.40MHz and 3MB L2 Cache is going to do for you?
