2 out of 5 eggsPretty but wicked

Pros: Large, bright display

Cons: Came with Vista and no free upgrade.
Display crashes and resets often. WD hard drive crashed after 14 months. Nvidia drivers are causing BSOD crashes and constant resets.
This has been the worst $1200 I have ever spent.
If I had any idea this highly reflective keyboard was this difficult to see I would have passed on this piece of ( ). I am very disappointed with what has been a very good company.

Other Thoughts: I have lost faith in HP. My Acer netbook is more stable and performs better

1 out of 5 eggsworst HP note book

Pros: 17 inch screen is wonderful brilliant bright. Able to handle harsh multitasking. Good looking.

Cons: Where do i start, with in 3 months the HDD failed. Just so i wont void the warranty i had to send this thing in. took about 3 week to get it back. After i got it back 2 weeks later some of the keys stop working. HP tech said it was a software issue. After updating software, OS kept on crashing. Come to find out it was a hard ware issue. ( HP said the Internal cable was loose ). worked for 2 months and then num lck stop working and the f12 key. 1 year later battery is totally dead, it wont hold charge. Total junk.

Other Thoughts: HP use to be very good build quality, not any more. Stick to ASUS, Dell, or even MSI or acer.

5 out of 5 eggshp=good

Pros: For starters its huge biggest laptop i have ever owned. Great onboard audio it sounds great and its gets pretty loud. full keyboard. Windows media center remote control works great and tucks away inside the case. burns great discs but refuses to write on certain companies discs. Battery life is great considering the size. Wireless lan works great internet is fast. card reader writer. easy to set up easy to use. great laptop Came with vista

Cons: The built in page scroll on the mouse broke or is disabled. Airflow for the cpu sucks when its one a table, i had to put new cleats on to raise the back up. It is a little shaky when playing hd videos from the optical drive, but its just fine if your streaming from the internet. Case shows finger prints easily. Came with vista

Other Thoughts: Came with vista

5 out of 5 eggsDV-7

Pros: I like the feel of the key action, the big screen and the operation of the computer. A big plus for me is the ability to turn the synaptic pad off with the button next to it.

Cons: Hard to see the key ID when in subdued lighting. A good typist would not have any problems with this, but occassionally I hunt and peck.

Other Thoughts: I use this computer to capture SD DV video and or audio with no problems. To be fair I use a separate 7200RPM external USB hdd for the capture. Software:Newtek Speededit and Sony Vegas platinum.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I bought this for my husband to run Dragon Dictate, text-to-speech, WoW, and much more. It runs smoothly with no issues. Beautiful!

Cons: You do not get a free upgrade to Windows 7 and the keyboard does not light up like my Dell.

5 out of 5 eggsGood price for a great machine

Pros: The laptop has a large screen at 17" and no dead pixels. Fast processor allows multiple applications to go on at the same time, but has a slight slowdown when trying to use alot of CPU power. The video card is mediocre for laptop cards at this moment, but for the price its well worth it. Use bing.com to save $50 more on any newegg product and with the rebate this laptop drops to about $850, which is a great price for a P8600 with a Blu-Ray player.

Cons: When you change the volume the computer makes a bunch for clicking sounds and the DVD reader makes a lot of noise. Vista, of course, is also a nuisance but you can always find Windows 7 Beta floating around.

Other Thoughts: Overall, for a computer that has a P8600 processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, a decent video card, and a Blu-Ray reader the price tag of $850 or so is a very good deal.

4 out of 5 eggsbad luck, but good laptop

Pros: This laptop is amazing for gaming and movies. It's performance has exceeded past my expectations. the speakers on it don't sound half bad either. the dual core 2.4GHz is amazing and can multi task like a champ.

Cons: The keyboard is very shiny thus making it a little difficult to see but that really isn't a big problem.

Other Thoughts: this was just bad luck for me but when i got it, I had to send it to hp and they had to replace the system board and reimage the hard drive but that's just bad luck for me.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointment

Pros: I've been a fan of HP for many years. I've owned several HP laptops previous to this one, and none of them have had more than a minor issue or two. The last one lasted for over 5 years and was still running even though half of it was burned up inside. HP has always done great for me ... until this time.

Pros include:
Does most of what it says it will do.

Big, bright screen.
Lots of extras.

I should also mention that if I were to give this rating based solely on Newegg, it would be a definite SIX stars. They are great, and I'll be a customer for life.
Newegg replaced the first one when the hard drive failed, and when the price dropped on this laptop just a day or two after I purchased it, they refunded the difference to me.

Cons: Now the unfortunate part.

I've now had two of these, the first one had the same problem this one does. But the Harddrive died and it had to be replaced. I was hoping the new one wouldn't have the same issue, but it does.
There is a major issue with the sound/video drivers.
My computer stutters, slows down to a crawl, the audio pops and crackles, and just generally doesn't work right when I try to display video or listen to audio. It has something to do with the drivers, and/or incompatible programs with the 64bit operating. I called HP to work on it, and they tried to help, but had no real idea what to do.
There are no audio drivers to download from their site for this model. If I can't find a way to fix this, the computer will basically be junk. I'm very very very disappointed that an HP would have such a huge incompatibility without any idea about how to fix the problem.

Other Thoughts: This problem must not be on all of them because I've only seen a handful of other people mention the same problem.
When I restart the computer it doesn't have a problem for awhile, but then it starts again, so I have a good idea about how nice a computer it can be when it's not slowed down to a crawl and stuttering every second.
It sure looks like a great computer if I could ever get it to run properly, but I'm about fed up with it.
I've been in the IT field now for over a decade. I've tried everything that you could think of to fix this problem and it still persists.
Very sad.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Pretty monitor. 17" is huge for a laptopVery solid construction. Above average laptop audio. Above average video card. Keys have a very solid feel to them, not a cheap sensation when using the keyboard. HD has a decent capacity. Bluetooth! Excellent wireless N, better than my N card and that card was wonderful. Some processors I understand will not allow an upgrade to Windows 7 but this one does allow such an upgrade of operating system. I am running Windows 7 Beta on this with zero issues. Much faster than Vista

Cons: Comes with Vista. Does not have Firewire I/O. Has Vista 64 BIT. Does'nt come with a free upgrade to Windows 7 when 7 is released later this year. Forces you to use Vista or above; XP sound drivers for this computer are not available & most aggravating and are not on the HP site. Has a second Hard Drive bay but as much as I've tried, it can not be used for dual booting. Did I mention it comes with Vista but with no free upgrade to Windows 7...

Comes with a proprietary plug from the power supply so if you have issues with it, you will need an entire new power supply.

The keyboard is an issue; the problem is the silvery look of the keys is not complimented by the white letters on them. Reality is older people don't have the same eyes they used to have and this low contrast setup makes it very difficult for those of us who need to look at the keyboard when we type. IF the letters had backlighting it would be an asset but not in bright light. Black keys with white letters is much mor

Other Thoughts: The reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 eggs comes down to (1.) the keyboard. And (2.) Vista 64. I knew this had Vista when I got it, Newegg said so but I had hoped to go back to XP and only discovered that doing so was an intentional no-no created by HP and hours of searching for audio drivers proved fruitless.

If You're looking for a beautifully well made laptop with great wireless and Bluetooth capabilities and one that will seamlessly migrate to the upcoming Windows 7, this laptop will more than satisfy you.
