2 out of 5 eggsOk performance while parts lasts

Pros: 2 ghz dual Core, 16" display

Cons: Battery and hard drive are useless after a year. I have to keep the laptop plugged in at all times.

I had to replace the 320 gig Seagate 5400.5 hard drive a month after the year warranty. (Replaced with a 500 gig Western Digital BEVT and it works great). The drive bay seems to be poor at air flow, even for a laptop. The 5400.5 that died ran almost 50 cel, and the WD 500 gig BEVT I replaced it with runs just as hot. These are with the vents uncovered and with it sitting on my lets in a way not to cover the hard drive vents.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is good for general use. It is a bit slow when encoding videos using ConvertXtoDVD 4, but no slower than any other 2 gigahertz dual core.

The battery lasted a little over a year and will shut down after a couple minutes if not plugged into the wall. The hard drive is a Seagate 5400.5 and while it gave decent performance while it worked, it didn't work very long. At least the hard drive bay was easy to access by only removing 2 screws and switching the hard drives was easy.

Over all is a decent computer, if the battery and hard drive weren't junk. Its almost as if its designed to fail when the warranty ends

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value for General Use

Pros: -Good keyboard size with numeric pad.
-Very good dimensions and weight compared to other 16" models.
-The case is nice looking with simple and clean aesthetics.
-I find this smooth trackpad to be easier to use than many others, but I also really like the button to disable the trackpad.
-No speed issues with multiple documents and office programs open.
-Power brick is pretty small compared to others I have seen.
-Speaker volume and quality is good. I usually use it at about 20%, so I know there is plenty left for when there is lots of ambient noise.
-Excellent value at $450. Not as great at higher prices.

Cons: A handful of minor issues:
-The LEDs that indicate Caps Lock and Num Lock are positioned under the casing with small holes above them and are very difficult to view, especially in bright light. I didn't even notice the Caps Lock one was there for several days.
-Some of the silver color is already chipping away on the edges.
-Keys on the numeric pad are very narrow, but still quite usable.
-Silver coloring on keyboard can make glare an issue of reading some of the key labels in certain lighting situations.
-The HP bloatware really was a hassle. I thought others were exagerating, but it took a while to get rid of it all.
Really none of these issues is too bad.

Other Thoughts: -Keys feel very slick. Some people might not like this, but I do.
-No dedicated media keys.
-A big silver Autobots logo looks awesome on the shiny black top. In case that's something you're interested in.
-The numeric pad does include Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down. It's hard to tell from the images, and those keys are very useful to me.
-Dedicated F1-F12 keys also, with shortcut / hardware / media alternate uses on them.
-The placement of the left control key is fine with me. Others have commented they don't like it.
-Power connection is on the side. I would rather have it on the back. It sticks out about three inches. No ports on the back at all, actually.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for the price

Pros: Price / performance / feature set well balanced. Only a slight bit of bloatware (Norton and Office Trial versions). So far predictable performance. Lightscribe if that gets you excited.

Cons: No lid latch. Battery is severely undersized for long term use. Reliance on Vista. Included software less than stellar (e.g. Webcam suite). Multi-function soft-keys -vs- actual dedicated buttons. Labeled as having Altec-Lansing sound, but certainly nothing to write home about. BIOS update relies on in-OS executable (no offline upgrades). Hard disk can get toasty.

Other Thoughts: I actually spent a day taking this back to XP (the audio drivers presented more issue than wedging in the Intel SATA bits). See and HP Support Forums for details on what it's going to take. But.....

Believe it or not I actually went back to Vista. This laptop was built for it, and it runs it much better than a kludged together XP install (LastXP 22 w/required driver shims). I ran both the stock (5400rmp) HD as well as an upgraded 7200rpm unit (on sale at NewEgg) and it was a worthy upgrade. 7200rpm drive actually runs cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsMom's Perfect laptop

Pros: Well made, processor fast for most folks, 3gb ram perfect for Vista. Great wide screen, H.P. stuff easy to remove if you choose. I still put Advanced Window care Pro, Reg-Cure and Diskkeeper on it, as well as Kaspersky 2009. This thing has to be flawless even though it is Vista. It is and was delivered in ONE day. Newegg always delivers the goods.

Cons: None, except Mom has Fios and I do not!

Other Thoughts: Bought for 79 year old Mom who checks e mail every day only to complain about all the jokes and prayers her older friends send her. Her 5 year old Dell has had it. She is a riot! I am setting this laptop up so when she opens the lid, it wakes up, at which time she can say what she wants to do. Her home pages go right to her sign in page.
Go Mom...

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: Price - I got mine on a GREAT sale, but even at full price it's a great laptop for the price. It's fast! The screen looks amazing; the graphics are as good as any laptop selling for nearly twice as much. Tons of storage. Wireless works great. Touchpad isn't the squishy, breakable kind I was expecting, and it has an on/off switch! Keyboard layout is nice, almost like a regular one, keypad is a cool/nice touch. Sound is surprisingly good.

Cons: Vista. Not that there's really another choice right now, but's alright. For regular everyday users, Vista Home Premium isn't so bad, but for an IT guy, it's got some limitations. Still, not the worst con, and for a regular user, it's probably not even noticeable - the hardware on this ting can keep up with Vista's bells and whistles.

Other Thoughts: I recommend waiting for a sale if you can, but it's still a great laptop at full price. I'd recommend this to anyone except a gamer looking for a top-end system. Perfect for streaming media around the house or when traveling, and performs nearly as well as most desktops.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Screen, price, hard drive space, processor, keyboard, just about everything.

Cons: Gets fiery hot sometimes, battery life is OK.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for about $550 almost a year ago, but I'm sure you can find it for cheaper if you shop around a bit. For the price it's a fantastic laptop. It has a great screen, fast processor, and plenty of hard drive space. The keyboard with full number pad is really nice. Good action on the keys and really easy to type on. I write for a website, and I only use the laptop nowadays. It's really easy and comfortable to use.

It plays DVDs smoothly and without hiccup, as well as HD videos. The video playback was one of the reasons I bought this system. My old desktop would lag and stutter on HD videos, but the G60 handles them easily. The speakers are also pretty good as far as laptop speakers go.

The battery life is good but not great, and it does get very hot if you are using it pretty heavily.

I use this laptop for everything; travel, home use, videos, music, word processing, browsing the internet. It's a fantastic product all around for the price. I love this thing!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

Pros: Not a better laptop on the market for the price. Unless your an avid gamer, I see no reason not to get this. I picked mine up at a national retailer for 429.00.

My last computer cost 1400.00 three years ago and that didn't have the processing power this has. And what was a stand alone graphics processor at 64mb is now integrated with HD capability.

I am amazed at the price point. Don't hesitate if your looking for a fast basic computer.

Might I add that the way the keyboard is laid out, you are able to comfortably rest your wrists and type easily as the keys seem to be perfectly aligned to my hand spand.

Cons: Vista of course. I am working on downgrading to XP. Vista is just to bloated and my machine at home, C2D 6600 OC to 3.0 with an 8800GT and 4 GB of ram has all it can take running Vista Ult. and is stuck at 5.9 on Vistas performance test.

Other Thoughts: I will be adding a solid state HD in the future which should speed this baby up nicely.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing performance - great computer

Pros: just love using fast..copies r really fast..web is very the display
runs everything without ever making a whisper; left it on w/o power supply and 2 hrs later still had power left..

Cons: do not know if I hv a need for a numeric keypad; always trying to use it and do not like numeric lock on...
just hv to take time to see if I can hv num lock off...

Other Thoughts: for 500$, dont know what I was doing all this time w/o this...wasted so much time with my old computer

3 out of 5 eggsFlimsy component quality

Pros: Sleek, very shiny, keyboard feels very comfortable, nice screen quality

Cons: I had to replace virtually all components along its lifetime - first was the CD (twice), hard drive, battery, memory and then the video card (which is unreplaceable).
CD, hard drive and battery were replaced while still in warranty. However it took three months (and lots of complaints at BBB) to replace the hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I'm writing this review as I bring the remains to trash after coming from Geek Squad where I was told it would take another $500 to fix it. It's electronic poop at this point.
This was my second and last incursion into HP's realm - reverting to Dell on my next purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Fast. Stable. Number pad. Good amount of space.

Cons: No firewire port. weak built in cam.

Other Thoughts: I wasn't expecting to use this for gaming. But for those who are interested. This cant handle anything new (2006+). L4D, COD 4. (Anything that requires a decent graphics card.) It can play your basic stuff though: CS 1.6. UT 2004. HL2. So just a heads :)
