Just Bad Luck
- Pros: This thing is absolutely amazing! You can tell just by looking at it that it would've been a great laptop if the one I had would'nt have messed up so bad.
- Cons: I had problems with this thing right out of the box, from the time I pressed the power button to the time I started trying to use this thing. Right out of the box I was having problems with the video card not working properly; the movie/video would start playing but after a while, there would be short pauses kinda like the video/movie was trying to buffer except I wasn't watching them on the internet (later I found out it was doing this to videos on youtube as well). Aside from that though it worked pretty well until I started having problems with the touch sensitive buttons. Ever time I turned the volume down or touch the bottom of the laptop in certain places, my wireless would shut off and I would have to then turn it back on and let it refind the network I was just connected to. I tried everything including recovery to try and fix my problems but nothing worked.
- Other Thoughts: I really hate to say this but HP support has been absolutely terrible; if you are having problems like this out of the box, send it back to newegg because when I tried to tell HP what was wrong in both emails and phone calls, they apparently ignored me in both situations; however, they did end up attempting to repair it but they ended up replacing hardware that had nothing to do with my problems and now I'm stuck with a very expensive door stop...thanks HP.
Excellent choice
- Pros: I am very pleased overall with my choice of laptop. In my case I purchased this with the idea that I could replace my home gaming desktop rig that was eating power at the rate of 1Kw/hr (power requires power I guess).
My plan was to keep my desktop for intense gaming, but use the lighter powered laptop for everything else.
The laptop is very responsive, boots reasonably quickly and the graphic card can deal with most games on a very good level. The O/S is 64 bit Vista and I have had zero problems using the 64bit version of the O/S, all games and applications that I have installed on it have run as good or better than on the 32bit version that I have on my desktop.
Vista scores, for those that want to know are: Processor: 5.3 Memory: 5.9 Graphics: 5.0 Gaming Graphics: 5.3 Primary Hard Disk: 5.8
The screen size is okay for my needs and I have ended up using a 24" external monitor attached to the system and use the laptop screen as a 2nd monitor.
- Cons: Only a couple of things. My unit has a loud fan (not as loud as the fans in my desktop unit) which is noticable noise for the first 5-10 minutes of startup and then it quiets down to almost silent operation. No one here has mentioned this, but my system has this problem.
Some of the applications that the unit ships with actually makes the O/S unstable, once I stripped out most of it, the O/S worked much more reliably.
- Other Thoughts: Outstanding unit. Would highly recommend. I run a least 1 Virtual machine, sometimes 2 while I run the host and the system performs admirably.

HP HDX 16
- Pros: This is a great looking laptop. It is fast and doesn't have trouble running a bunch of programs at once. It does not slow down a noticeable amount when the virus software runs which is a plus because I am constantly using it. I haven't had any trouble playing games on it; they run, and look, great. It came with a lot of accessories and the speakers are very nice as far as lap top speakers go. It is very user friendly thanks to the HP onscreen intro instructions. I was able to get everything set up very easily by myself. Overall I am very happy with it.
- Cons: It gets really hot without a fan and comes with a lot of extra software I will probably never use. I also don't trust the recovery disks. It only gives you one chance to make them and I kept getting errors that said something along the lines of "You must insert the same type of disk as disk 1." I used 3 DVDs from the same pack. The media buttons at the top are touch buttons and are not very sensitive.
- Other Thoughts: It would have been great if the recovery disks were included. Since I had some problems making them I don't really trust them in the event that I would have to use them.
Nice computer
- Pros: I've had this computer for about 2.5 months. It's worked great so far. The screen is nice and crisp and it's performed well.
- Cons: I only have 2 complaints about this computer which prevented me from giving it 5 stars. First of all, as mentioned in previous reviews, it gets a little warm on the left side so I usually prop it up on two books. Secondly, the battery is horrible. I think it only lasts for 1.5 hours which is a bit ridiculous considering that since you spend over $1000 on a computer, they can at least throw in a decent battery. That's probably more of an HP issue than a newegg issue.
- Pros: Very good overall. So far no problems and everything works great!
- Cons: Lots and lots of preloaded software that I don't need, want and have to figure out how to expunge.
