5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my needs

Pros: The battery life is spectacular! I am getting the advertised 14 hrs under both linux and XP. I use this machine in field service and find its' size vs performance perfect for my needs.

Cons: As has already been mentioned, the function key takes some getting used to.

Other Thoughts: Unlike others, I have had zero problem getting this machine up and running using Ubuntu remix 9.10.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Netbook For HD Video Content.

Pros: Netbook is able to play any video I throw at it, even 1080p HD. The formats I tried were 720p, 1080p h264, and 720p, 1080p, divx (.avi) files. The videos I tried were all silky smooth using Windows media player 12 and using the latest k-lite codec pack. I was also able to watch videos from Hulu and HD video from YouTube, Hulu video worked perfect on medium quality and although for YouTube I was not able to watch 1080p as smooth as I wanted, 720p video worked perfect. For Flash based videos to work smooth I installed the intel gma 500 drivers version which were the latest at the time of this writing and I installed Adobe flash 10.1 beta 1. There is a newer beta out there (flash 10.1 beta 3) but for me video played smoother with the first beta.

I believe this should work with any other netbook or nettop that uses the Z series Atom processors coupled with the GMA 500 Gpu (Poulsbo Chipset).

Cons: None so far, except that it was not free.

Other Thoughts: Please upgrade your memory, it comes with 1GB of ram on the the only slot available on the netbook, which means that to upgrade the memory you should buy only one 2GB stick of ram. Also people if you can please do yourselves a favor and upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as you can cause Windows XP is way too old and it shows. Windows 7 works very nice with this netbook, I sometimes use my tv tuner and use the included Windows Media Center on Win7 to watch hi-def tv when not home, and its an excellent. Hope this helps someone out there.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Battery life does seem to be good, keyboard is easy to use, and screen is easy to read.

Cons: Requested a return today. Item freezes up for no apparent reason. Tried to go online to the manufacturer website and download updates - froze up. Same with Microsoft updates. Manufacturer's website is useless. I guess its true that you get what you pay for....

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Most practical small-form factor device i've ever seen! I was weiry about the battery life but this puppy lasts all day! Even with my wireless usb broabdband card!! Its not insanely fast but does the job. MS Office Enterprise runs great! Yes the keyboard is small but its easy to get used too.

Cons: I really wish the Fn button and Ctrl buttons were switched. Im used to hitting the Ctrl with my pinky at the bottom left side of the keyboard to quickly copy and paste things but hey i'm satisfied enough with this sweet piece.

Other Thoughts: I got this so I wouldnt have to lug around my 17" Sony mad machine that only lasts an hour on battery.

My dad loved it so much I got him one!

I highly suggest buying the case logic case for this!

With a price half the cost of an iphone, how could you go wrong???

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent product for the money

Pros: As everyone else says... the battery life WOW! 10+ hours no problem. I was a little skeptical of 1GB ram, but even after loading anti-virus and ms-office, this still runs ok enough.

Cons: Just a personal preference.... the keys for >. and ?/ are small and close together. when typing, sometimes i get www./newegg/com. But after a month, I find myself concentrating on the . key and making less mistakes.

Other Thoughts: new egg fast shipping. I've already recommended this netbook to 2 others.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Netbook

Pros: You've read in all the other reviews, and I'll say it too, the battery life on this little guy is awesome. 12 hours in constant use. I got this because I finally decided I needed something to take with me to classes at the university. And I can take this to school, use it all day, bring it home, do whatever I need to on my home desktop, and recharge this one over night. I even use this thing around the house over my desktop sometimes. There is not enough I can say about how awesome it is to have a powerful portable netbook that will last all day and do everything i need it to. Battery is a little cumbersome, but considering the extra juice, well worth it. The on board graphics are weak, of course, but its a netbook, not a laptop or desktop for your heavy work and entertainment. The hard drive is in two partitions, which is good if you are looking to install linux or something, but I haven't found it to be detrimental or anything if your just using the XP it came with.

Cons: Upgrading RAM. I believe some else reviewing said there is not a second RAM slot, but there is in fact a second RAM slot. The problem, as others have stated, is that getting to the second slot requires unscrewing the back and removing warranty sticker. Why would they make it so easy, and then make it so that if you do, you would void the warranty? I don't know, but someone should get fired. Anyway, there is a way around this. Register your netbook with MSI by going to their website, creating a username, and mailing them a few things (proof of purchase). You should probably be doing this anyway if you have a warranty. But once you do this, call/contact customer service, tell them you're getting your RAM upgraded, and request another warranty sticker and they should send you one. So you CAN upgrade RAM, MSI just made it more complicated than it should be.

Other Thoughts: I don't feel like you NEED to upgrade the RAM though. This thing runs smoothly and I have not felt like I have really NEEDED to upgrade the RAM, but I went ahead anyway. Besides, anything that would really need 2 GB of RAM, you might want to use a more powerful computer for anyway. Also, the wireless card is weird for me sometimes. I have noticed that occasionally, it will pretend there are no wireless networks in range, when there really are. Sometimes it will do this while still being connected to the network. I downloaded a different wifi manager, and it seems ok. Just putting it out there. In my case, it would still work, so I didn't really consider it a con. And the power, portability, and battery life makes this netbook perfect for me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat For College

Pros: I use this for Cisco's training courses and the battery life makes it as painless as possible. I used Microsoft's Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to install the updated OS. Windows 7 had or found all the drivers needed instantly. The keyboard is comfortable for typing IOS commands. The ports make it easy to add a console connection via USB adapter and a client connection on the wired port. The size is just what I needed for the purpose, and should transition with me to the field.

Cons: The small period key makes it a little tough to type IP addresses and subnet masks. (Kind of specific to my application)

Other Thoughts: Love the finish on the lid. The pictures don't do it justice. The protruding battery makes some protective sleeves incompatible. How does Newegg ship so fast?!

3 out of 5 eggsIntel, what were you thinking?

Pros: -Keyboard is easy to use, bigger than AcerOne
-Battery life is 10-11 hours with wifi on constantly
-Screen is clear and bright
-Youtube videos are fluid on lower resolutions FS
-wifi reception is excellent in windows XP and Ubuntu 9.10

Cons: -An exec at Intel should be fired for not releasing the GMA500 Development kit to vendors until a few weeks ago. Video under Ubuntu 9.10 has been a disaster. Vesa only. Some people have had success by using psb-kernel-source etc for their drivers but my attempts failed. 800x600 looks awful on a widescreen display
-Don't think windows drivers for the GMA500 are any better. I still had to go find drivers for individual parts online since MSI said that they're using the built-in drivers from windows. The synaptic touchpad for example didn't scroll at all until I install the drivers myself.
-HD video on youtube sucks. The video GPU isn't handling them as well as advertised. 360p is fine, but 480P and up is distracting if not unwatchable, and that's under XP.
-Only keyboard comment is placement of Fn key. I wish that CTRL was in the corner and not the FN key. I use hotkeys a lot, and hitting the FN key instead is annoying. Not awful, just annoying.
-Ethernet port does not function.

Other Thoughts: If you need your netbook to run 100% out of the box avoid this chipset. Stay with the GMA950 for now until Intel can get their drivers and support figured out. Had the netbook been perfect under windows and just fuzzy in Ubuntu I would've forgiven some of this, but even XP is running around 80%. Ubuntu is around 60%. For my business the ethernet port MUST work and it does not in XP or Ubuntu. Video under Ubuntu 9.10 is around 4fps. Video under XP is fluid at lower resolutions.

This netbook would be perfect if it had the GMA950 instead. MSI did a great job with what they had. As of right now I recommend it to those who like to tinker and edit xorg.conf and recompile their kernel over and over again.

I missed the part were there is only one dimm slot on this board. I ordered a 1gb chip to add just to discover I couldn't use it. Order a 2gb chunk and replace the 1gb that comes with it instead.

I would give this netbook 5-stars if it were a GMA950
Intel GMA500 = avoid
