5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: I've had this laptop close to a year with no problems so far. I did the normal new computer wipe and then placed Windows 7 Business on it.
The sound on the laptop I think it great, its able to run most games at medium setting with a few at high.
The built in Intel graphics card is good for school work and browsing the web, allowing for increased battery life. While it will switch to the NVIDIA Geforce GT 325M for gaming.
The stock 4GB of memory is suffice for most use.
I greatly enjoy the full size keyboard. The added keys provided a few problems at first but it was easy to adapt to them.

Cons: The keyboard has a plate that acts as the spacer between the keys and protects the underside from stuff getting stuck under it. I've found that it might keep most stuff out but if something does get under it like dust or a small bug when you are out side you have to remove the spacer/protective plate to clean it, which is a massive pain.

The matte cover/finish/texture on the laptop is a magnet for fingerprints and smudges. Which also makes removing the specs sticker on it a pain.

Other Thoughts: Not really a con since most laptops come with bloatware but I did format it and place Windows 7 Business 64 on it with no problems. I was able to install all drivers and get the updates easily from the provided disk or going to MSI's website.

All a round a very sturdy and reliable laptop, I love it.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on Item

Pros: Well I didn't know where to write this, so here seemed a good a place as any. The DVD drive was faulty, found that out about a week or so after I bought it because I never really use it. Anyways, MSI customer service was quick and helpful to resolve the issue or try at least. :) The attempt didn't work, but after speaking with the customer service rep again, he was able to issue an RMA for the drive only so I can keep my machine but get the problem resolved.

Cons: Well the DVD drive is faulty and the OS is OEM, but everything is being handled, so I would just note the software and be sure to check all items when you get it just to be sure. EVERYTHING else is awesome though and works as it should.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Investment

Pros: Well it has been less than a week, but I truly love this purchase. Fast, great screen, great video card, easy to use and I love the mouse and the case. Complaints were made about the wireless having to be invoked every time you boot, but I didn't find that to be the case. Maybe a BIOS revision corrected that? I like the keyboard too, but I have a con for it below. The typing is great and very smooth. The touchpad, although textured, is very nice and responsive. The camera is also very good quality, but I haven't used it for anything yet. Just impressed with the quality I saw. FOUR speakers too! Sounds awesome, can't wait to get gaming on it! Other than that, it runs like a normal laptop. I purchased the 2 year warranty just because I've never bought a non-standard brand laptop, but assuming there aren't any hardware failures, I think it will be insurance that is never used....hopefully. :)

Cons: The keyboard. LOVE it, but the layout is kinda bad. They added an extra key next to the space bar that I hit ALL the time. I also use Ctrl+Left Arrow/Right Arrow to navigate quickly in a paragraph, but the left Ctrl key is WAAAY on the end of the keyboard.

Just a con for myself as I know almost all new laptops have this keyboard, but the added number pad is throwing me off. I am constantly having to make sure I hit the Enter key or don't hit some random key when typing. Just used to the older laptop keyboards I guess. And not sure who sells it, but how in the world do you get Bluetooth!? Not one company selling this model sold it with the Bluetooth option available. So how do you get it?! I don't use it too often, but it would be kinda nice to have and the button is RIGHT THERE! GRRRR!!!

The power cord; right angled and the port is on the side. Don't know the best way to do it, but not my favorite location (left side).

THOSE are the only cons, so just keep that in mind

Other Thoughts: Overall I'd say the build on this machine is solid. The frame feels sturdy, the screen is amazing, the keyboard is amazing and overall it will more than likely replace my desktop as my primary machine. The HDDs are always the weak link, so maybe in a year or so I will find a nice responsive drive (SSD possibly) that will help with the speed, but this machine is not slow by any means. It has the Optimus technology too, so that allows the graphics card to be used when it should be and the integrated video when you're just messing around.

4 out of 5 eggsGood so far

Pros: Price. Very attractive looking laptop. Screen is wide compared to most laptops of this size. Full number pad. Display is also bright and pretty. Speakers sound great.

Cons: Biggest one: Web-cam does not work out of the box. Possibly need a driver update, but not sure at this time.
Don't care for the textured touch-pad. Not a huge deal, and my wife doesn't mind it, so it's just barely a con.

Other Thoughts: Shopped around for a while. This computer has the best bang for your buck that I've found in the 600-800 price range, although it's at the top of that range.
Have not tried out any of the side ports yet, but I'm sure they will work fine.

5 out of 5 eggsAffordable laptop that packs a punch!

Pros: Affordable
Powerful
Stylish
Dedicated graphics card

Cons: First unit sent to me was defective, replacement works great though

Other Thoughts: I purchased this laptop as a replacement for my 3-year old HP that broke. It has a great feel to it and the chiclet-style keyboard helps with accuracy. MSI really took the little things into consideration, from the multi-touch touchpad to the built-in overclocking mechanism to the 4 channel audio which rivals any laptop I've ever listened to. As long as MSI continues to build products like this I will be a long-time customer.

5 out of 5 eggsbest laptop for the money

Pros: this laptop has probably the best features you can find for the price.

For starters... there is a intel core i5 450m processor in it for less than 800 dollars. thats a steal in my book. Also, there is a button in the keyboard that you can use to automatically overclock the processor( which msi calls TDE).

Next, you have to 4 THX class audio speakers, which btw work superbly. I have tried multiple audio mixers on it and it feels like im in the middle of a symphony.

Now for display and graphics quality. The gpu is both dedicated and integrated. I know is sounds confusing, but it is the truth. For less power the computer will use the integrated graphics card that is already in the core i5 cpu. Yes there is a seperate gpu inside of the actual cpu. When you need more power though, it will automatically switch to the dedicated gt 325m graphics card. This switch is really just to save power. The actual display is an led backlit display, which is good. And they also have an hdmi inp

Cons: (since i didnt finish everything for pros im going to do some here)

The overall look of the laptop is very good and I believe that MSI has achieved one of their best laptop products ever. However, there are some problems. The chassis is not made from metal. It is entirely made from plastic. If you plan to carry it around a lot, like me, you need to be carefull. I havent damaged mine or anything but its just a forewarning. Also, the battery life is horrible. It holds life for only 3 hrs due to its 6 cell battery. Normally a notebook of this size would be at least 8 cells. These two are really the only complaints I have about this product.

Other Thoughts: It might not be perfect, but the features in this laptop and the price pretty much outway the bad. So buy this LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( the right shift key is really small just fyi)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance for a Better Value

Pros: The first thing to notice out-of-the-box is the uncommon design of the laptop. The laptop carries an irregular checkered design which catches the eye. Not only is the laptop finish designed for utility and protect against fingerprints and other markings, but leathery, old-book-style appearance is both pleasant and refreshing in wake of many portable electronics with far too delicate surfaces.

This laptop is solid performance-wise and at 870 CAD I feel I have pulled a great bargain with this product. The 325m is not a beast, but it is certainly a workhorse. I have been able to play games such as Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 series on highest graphics settings with AA and AF at 1024x768 as is advertised on many benchmarking sites. Importantly, I imagine the card only pulls a small degree of power similar to the 215m which only draws approx. 25 W which must contribute to the laptop's low volume.

Cons: Unfortunately, the Windows edition cannot be chosen with this laptop like most other retail computers. Windows Home Premium is not a very strong edition of Windows 7, most notably lacking Windows XP compatibility mode. The laptop also comes with many additional software packages, some which are good and many less so.

Fortunately, if one has their own edition of Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, it can simply be installed in place of Home Premium.

I think the standard warranty from MSI could be better. The 1 year parts and labour provided by MSI is a little on the low side. I think for a laptop the minimum a consumer should look for is a 2 year warranty from the manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: In addition to quadrophonic speakers and a multi-touch mousepad, the laptop performs even better than I had first expected. It is great to be able to play any sort of game pre-2005 on highest settings.

My main goal with a new laptop was to find a computer which combined a great price with solid specs for which I could use to work comfortably and also have a bit of fun. This laptop is great to work on and performs very we with PC games and emulators. At 870 CAD, I don't think I could've found a better laptop and I am very happy with my purchase.

The first thing I did with the laptop was wipe the hard drive clean (500 GB is a great size for a laptop by the way) and install 7 Ultimate and Ubuntu 10.04. Now I can be certain I am getting the full use of the hardware :)

Any drivers which are needed on a fresh install can be easily found from MSI, Nvidia, and Intel websites.

P.S. I'm scared to imagine what the price of this laptop would be with the Apple brand upon it! Thanks, MSI

4 out of 5 eggsjust short of 5 stars

Pros: Intel CPU - i5 with Turbo
Pretty light for a 15.6 laptop and THIN!
THX Certified Sound w/ 4 Speakers sound great
HDMI - HDMI output to HDTV
Wireless N - 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN
LAN 10/100/1000Mbps
Full size Chiclet keyboard, not too noisy
ridged touchpad

Cons: quick access button have no backlight and are painted a very light color, blends into the high gloss black. very hard to see the icon.

No Bluetooth. Not a big deal breaker for me as I don't really use it, but more and more devices are being made to use BT instead of RF.

Checkered pattern doesn't seem to ward off the fingerprints. No matter how much you wash your hands, any tiny amount of sweat or wetness, you will leave a mark. Not really a big deal for me, but could be for some.

Other Thoughts: Funny thing, I originally ordered this for my son who is now a college freshman. UPS said they delivered but never did until a week later. Since my son was heading out of state for college, i had to get one quickly and ordered a second one. In helping to set his up, i said, if UPS ever sends me the first order, I just might keep it. well it arrived and I kept it. Highly recommend purchase
