3 out of 5 eggsWonderful when it works.

Pros: Very powerful computer
Ports on the back instead of the side
The P1 button and the Fan speed button are really useful

Cons: Blue screen code 116
Started out happening once every couple of months. After a year, it now happens multiple times a day. I managed to reduce it by severely under clocking both GPU and CPU.

Other Thoughts: My mouse pad isnt that great to use. I use a mouse all the time so its not really a problem for me.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but flimsy

Pros: Great specs, comes with built in overclock and fan to compensate, looks great, and can run just about anything I put on it at top graphics

Cons: This aweseomeness is encased in a cheap plastic frame that makes me afraid that if I ever drop it the whole thing will shatter into a very expensive scrap pile.

4 out of 5 eggsAll in all, not a bad deal!

Pros: rocket-ship specs list, a whole slew of inputs and outputs (including 2XUSB 3.0), incredible price before discontinuation, sound is INCREDIBLE, nice feel of touchpad/palm rest, body, 3+ hours on battery using most conservative mode. from an i7 with a 16" screen I'm truely impressed by this! Also, the touch sensative buttons are fun and handy, manual over-clock and fan speed is a neat option. Full number pad is a real saver since I do a lot of spread sheet work.

Cons: Reletively heavy, power converter is HUGE. This is honestly a problem because it REALLY takes up space in my backpack. Drivers are questionable...LEDs worked for 2 days before Windows told me to uninstall the driver for them. I don't really care if the LEDs work, but it wasn't a good start to ownership. Had a reletively serious problem with all USB inputs dying for roughly a month right at the beginning. displayed "Surge on hub port" error, but somehow this has fixed itself. Low res screen can't comfortably disiplay 2 full browser windows side-by-side. Super-cool High-def web cam has never worked. May also be a driver issue. Likely so, in fact. Rebate took 10 weeks to come back. I had seriously given up. No indicator lights for num/scroll/caps lock. This of all things is actually beyond frustrating! Last thing, partitioned hard drive. I HATE that!

Other Thoughts: The name of the game with this laptop is compromises, but this should be expected from a full-on gamer/desktop replacement for under a grand. The question is were the right ones made? I'm not a big gamer so I don't exercise this machine to its fullest. In my opinion, for the stellar price that I got it for I'll put up with the lack of software refinement, low res screen, and rather cheap keyboard feel for the 12Gb expandable RAM, i7, powerful graphics card, and incredible sound output! All in all, as long as more driver issues don't keep haunting me I stand behind my 4-egg rating.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: i7-740QM, 6GB DDRII, Second bay for HDD, NVIDIA GTX 285M
Dynaudio sound

Cons: the screen 1366x768 <-- Lost a Egg Here
No back-lit keyboard, fan is loud, Power block is big, touch pad is very good

Other Thoughts: would trade the flashy led for a back-lit keyboard or pay $100 more for 1600x1080 or even 1366x900

4 out of 5 eggsFIXED and UPDATED: MSi's instauration

Pros: This is a correction and update to my last review with the same title, so that makes 4.5 eggs overall.

* Arrived on 2MAR2011 as expected, not the 4th.

* Checked DPC latency of the system: occasionally goes over 800µs while idle, which is quite good, but not excellent. (Lower is better.) To give you an idea, my EP45-UD3P Gigabyte mobo, running Vista, is so well designed that the DPC latency rarely exceeds 170µs while idle!

* Confirmed pre-installed DDR3 RAM: three ASint 2GB-1333 SSZ3128M8-EDJ1D. Find the spec's on ASint's website. They're set in dual channel mode (not triple).

Cons: * No mounting bracket for second HDD. Luckily, I found one for $45 (including shipping) at a MSi reseller, so that must be added to the final cost of the laptop. This is a significant problem that accounts for the half-egg deduction.

* No extra screws for bottom panel; I had to use one of the screws to screw the bracket in place before I could put the panel back on. Quite an annoyance. And I can't expect HDD sellers to provide properly sized screws.

* I've confirmed that the airflow does in fact go through the bottom and exits the rear and the left side. Not a big con, but it isn't what I had assumed initially. Yes, this thing gets HOT, if you aren't careful.

* System isn't terribly stable under Intel Burn Test (max) when in turbo. This probably could be remedied with some tweaking, but playing with CPU-Tweaker leaves much to be desired. In other words, I oh so *wish* I had access to the memory timings from within the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is an excellent laptop, especially for its price-point compared to any other seller. If you get the chance, buy this or wait for the new GT668. I don't think you'll regret it once you've figured out how to play by its rules.

Props to Newegg for putting up such a great steal.

5 out of 5 eggsMSi's instauration

Pros: Read the spec's; you know why you're looking at the GT660.

* Keyboard has a good, solid layout; muscle-memory doesn't have to adjust much from a normal keyboard.

* Sturdy build; top-quality look and feel. People tell me how nice my new laptop is, etc., etc.

* F3 Hotkey Restore function at boot is invaluable. The partitioning makes it easy, in case you have any problems but don't want to hassle with getting things again and again. (Read note on other thoughts on my experience with some unsavory Windoze problems.)

* Air intake for cooling is in the back - NOT the bottom! This is a plus, so now I don't have to worry about my lap blocking the airflow. A pretty big plus.

Cons: There are several! But they do not detract from the serious benefits of the laptop. They're good points for all (including MSi) to keep in mind:

* BIOS is completely locked. Who cares if there's a warranty? I should have the option to void the warranty and fiddle with my GT660 at any time. It's mine!

* Yes, we all know what the res' on this baby is, but it wouldn't hurt so bad if they installed a 120Hz screen instead. Goodness knows this thing could have handled 3D Vision or extra visible frames!

* The fan does make an annoying voltage sound (or that could be the CPU). But I'm used to noise.

* Speakers cannot handle max' volume settings. But they can get loud enough. Remember folks: anything louder than a normal talking voice is going to kill your ears anyway.

Other Thoughts: Purchased 2/24/2011; received 3/4/2011 as expected.

Immediately encountered strange freezing issues. WiFi did not link with WGT110 properly and would force the router to shut down intermittently. This was a serious cause for numerous headaches. Bought a new Linksys E3000 (worthwhile replacement!) to make the problem go away. GT660 now connects like it should.

Encountered freezing issues, as I said. Further developed into BSOD's on a few occassions more than I had liked. Even an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD knocked on my door. Not very friendly! Anyway, this is where the F3 Hotkey Restore function came in handy, as I suspected Windoze 7 was the problem. Got it fixed!

Tested the system with Intel Burn Test (Legacy and latest version): works terrific.

After getting all the updates for Win7 installed, no problems to date!

Make sure you get any other necessary updates too.

Buy it when you can! It seems I got the last one as it said "SOLD OUT" right after I bought it. Tough

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Gaming Laptop!

Pros: -Great Uni-body
-Sound is amazing!

Cons: CPU WHINING NOISE! Now I don't know if this is just my computer, but there seems to be a whining noise coming from the cpu, no its not the fan or hard drive its coming straight from the cpu, I know a cpu can't make a noise really it could be the motherboad maybe transistor or cheap parts?

Other Thoughts: If anyone else has this problem, or if MSI rep can help me fix this it would be much appreciated, its really annoying..

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Great gaming laptop for $1000.
Full keyboard.
Run Crysis Wars MWLL mod with everything maxed and have no issues.
I don't use a laptop cooler, just prop it up to get airflow underneith and the internal fan does the job.

Cons: Power brick is a brick, but to be expected on a system that draw so much power.
Battery last about 2 hours on economy mode.
No Bluray. Tried contacting MSI about getting one and got no reply.

Other Thoughts: Had some bloatware preloaded, but was easy enough to remove.
Not the highest resolution screen, but hook up HDMI to the 46" LCD if I need the full resolution.
This is my second MSI laptop. The other was a small low end system. Both have surpassed my expectations.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed Son. Bad Experience

Pros: Great Sound
Great keyboard
Amazing price

Cons: battery pack extremely bulky
no lit keyboard
needs better resolution screen
Touch pad doesnt even work

Other Thoughts: Ordered my laptop on 2/25/11 and paid for it. newegg promised me id have it by 3/2/11 which was my sons birthday. apparently they "lost" my payment and it got delayed. i received the laptop the day AFTER my sons birthday. they also promised me the extra warranty for the issue. which i still havent received. not only did we get it the day AFTER his birthday but we got the laptop with a non functional touch pad. so he has to use a mouse with it all the time. so they disappointed my son and also still havent delivered on their word regarding the warranty.
