5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: I have been using this laptop for almost a year with no problems. Its fast and has a nice bright screen.

Cons: there is already two disk partitions, the touch pad is a bit rough and in order for the keyboard quick keys to work you need to have the MSI toolbar installed which is annoying.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for about 5 months

Pros: Worked flawlessly for about 5 months until...

Cons: Recently I started receiving BSODs. I have tried every suggest solutions only to still end up getting BSODs. I have updated the drivers from the MSI site, still get BSODs. I have updated drivers from the Nvidia and Intel sites, still BSOD. I have reformated windows and set the graphics to Nvidia card only on the Nvidia control panel, still BSOD. I have determined my BSOD problem is due to hardware issues and will be RMAing it soon. I'll updated my review on how the process goes.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI FX620DX

Pros: I bought this laptop mainly for gaming and i'm glad I made the purchase. You won't get the best graphics but you won't get the worst either. I could decently play Starcraft 2 on High graphics in team games.

CPU is great and is sufficient for your everyday and gaming needs.

The Nvidia 540M will play many of today's games smoothly at decent graphics. The intel integrated graphics chip is a bonus and will help conserve your laptop battery.

6 GB of ram is great! I'll probably never use them all but it's good knowing you have headroom.

I really love the surface of the laptop. It feels very comfortable in my hands but this could be a preference thing.

I believe the HDD in this laptop is only 5400 rpm which makes loading times slightly longer but nothing to die over.

The 2 USB 3.0s and 720p Webcam is a nice bonus.

The sound from the laptop is AWESOME compared to other laptops i've had.

Cons: The laptop comes with some bloatware. It takes time to remove them but it's not as bad as i've seen in my previous laptops.

The MSI 'S-Bar' utility sucks hardcore. You can close the program and uninstall it but it's needed to use the media keys including ejecting your DVD drive.

5400 rpm HDD.

Getting and installing all the right drivers were a pain to do.

The power cord is connected at the side of the laptop instead of the back which is a little inconvenient.

The laptop gets a little toasty after my gaming session but this is expected.

The partition split is odd (351GB / 234GB).

Other Thoughts: This laptop does everything that I needed it to do when I bought it. Gaming, school work, general usage... it's great for all uses.

I've never had any BSODs or freezes with this laptop within my 2 months of use.

The USB 2.0 slot is upside down but no biggie.

With the cons I would've given it 4 - 4.5 eggs but at this price I gave it a 5.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my prior review

Pros: Still very, very fast. The I52410M is a great CPU and the Intel3000 Graphics handle a lot of stuff without needing to switch on the NVidia GPU.

Has held up very well cosmetically. The island-style keyboard really seems to avoid trapping crumbs and hair better than most. The plastic seems fairly scratch resistant.

The screen is a little bit washed out (colors don't pop) but it is SUPER bright and is still a solid 8 out of 10 for me.

Speakers are still some of the best non-Beats Audio I've ever heard on a laptop.

Cons: Battery still CRIPPLES the CPU. It's bad, really bad. I've got to assume it's because MSI has put the puniest, saddest laptop battery I've ever seen on a 15 inch in this laptop, so they make sure to kill the processor (runs at 800 mhz no matter what). It really makes a huge, noticeable difference having the processor crippled so badly. Tried running throttlestop to make it run a bit better which caused BSOD's because throttlestop and Optimus don't play nicely together.

Runs very hot - This is a problem common to lots of Sandy Bridge laptops out there, but this one is definitely a big example of the problem. The cooling simply isn't up to task to keep the CPU and GPU cold. I'm hitting 96C while playing Crysis 2, even with a laptop cooler.

Trackpad is kind of hit or miss. I had to disable the pinch-to-zoom gesture because otherwise a lot of times I tried two finger scrolling it would just zoom in one the page. Also not a huge fan of it being textured.

Other Thoughts: Have now owned this laptop for about 3 months. I'm seeing a TON of BSOD errors and I will suggest the same thing a prior poster did. I reformatted back to the stock image, and installed the latest drivers straight from NVidia. I know you're not supposed to, really I do. Doesn't matter, it works great. The Optimus auto-switching is catching stuff it never did before (Getting Firefox to recognize it for use in 1080p streaming video didn't work before, now it does) and more importantly, I have NEVER had it BSOD on me (other than the aforementioned throttlestop issues)

I'm not sure it's still quite worth seven hundy, but it's a great little laptop and my previous comments about it being very future proof still hold true.

4 out of 5 eggsMSI-FX620DX

Pros: great config, 6gb memory, 640gb hd, nvidia card etc

Cons: bought altease 3 laptops so far, all had good software loaded. This one when tried to use first time, the webcam does not start..bluetooth does not work...this is the first computer that doesnot have all the software/drivers loaded ...when read reviews many have written they had the similar problems

Other Thoughts: have not seen other functions/features yet like nvidia graphics how good or effective it is. still trying to figure out how to get the bluetooth working

3 out of 5 eggsthink twice

Pros: works great for games until you try to play the witcher two away from your desk (not plugged into the wall charging)
The game starts to lag if you try this.
Starcraft 2 works great on this pad and it can handle high level graphics.

Cons: The computer freezes and eventually blue screens if i try to full screen a video game, I knew i was taking a risk buying this comp. I just want to make sure others know before they risk a painful experiance at times.

3 out of 5 eggsGood.. But bad

Pros: Amazing gaming laptop! Runs WoW on ultra-high settings! It also runs minecraft and team fortress 2 with little to no lag.
Computer is fast, I bought it for school and for gaming and it works just fine for both.
The screen is nice, no dead pixels.
The webcam is fantastic! Extremely clear with no problems.
Speakers were as good as I was expecting. Better than most laptops.
Lots of space, can upgrade to 8gbs.
Nice graphics card.

Cons: I will start with the minor cons. First, It came with a textured trackpad which I was not expecting. It took a while to get used to. I don't understand why it was needed.
When I close the computer and re-open it, I sometimes cannot get it to resume what I was doing.
Now the major issue. I have owned this computer for about two-three months now and I have had about 5 blue screens of death. Twice when I was on tinychat and the others were just random. Also the last couple of days it has been refusing to connect to my schools internet but it will connect to my home network just fine.

Other Thoughts: If it wasnt for the blue screens, this laptop would be amazing!

4 out of 5 eggsMSI is trying to make it right

Pros: As stated before, great performance. The hardware they packed in is great. The "Warranty void if removed" sticker doesn't void your warranty in the US!!!!!!

Cons: Hard drive failure, poor viewing angle, s-bar utility.

Other Thoughts: I was told in the manufacturer comments on my last review to contact MSI. I did and am pretty satisfied. I'm glad that upgrading to the SSD didn't void my warranty. I was also offered an HDD replacement, where I could service the laptop myself with the new HD. I'm pretty happy about this. I'm revising my review to a 4 star review. Given MSI is trying to work with people and their warranty policy is actually flexible, I'm going to recommend buying this laptop with confidence. A disk drive failure can happen to anyone, and long as they are able to support their customer with a flexible replacement situation like mine, I actually applaud this approach and wish other manufacturers could be as flexible.

Thank you MSI. It's all good. I ask that people consider this review in lieu of my last one.
