5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop, Fantastic buy!

Pros: What an amazing introduction to the MSI Series. This laptop has far exceeded my expectations about the power of a laptop.

The amount of CPU and GPU processing power that this laptop outputs is crazy amazing. I have tried many games on this laptop, primarily: Skyrim, Dead Island, Borderlands, Orcs must die, and others. It can run all these games at at high quality at a playable frame rate and some at 60+ fps. However; to get even better frame rate just tweaking the graphics or even overclocking can provide even better performance (tools provided) and along with this overclocking ability is the ability to increase the fan flow, which is a definite plus! Turning this on turns on a noticeable fan, but better to have good air flow than weak airflow for the system.

My original intentions for this laptop was gaming. However; with the specs provided I know that with its amazing processing power it WILL handle everything I will throw at it.

This laptop is amazing.

Cons: This laptop has a few interesting issues:
* These issues are nitpicky

- No Capslock/Numlock light (but they have a download that prints a reminder about the status of these buttons, not as good as light, but its good enough.. I guess)
- The Right shift key is rather small
- Minor key presses being missed/ignored
- Number pad button configuration is a little wierd, but mangable
- (not really a con) but the volume/brightness buttons were oddly placed, but easy to get used to

- Laptop volume is kind of low, but this is easily fixable if you:
1. Right click the speaker icon
2. Go to playback devices
3. Under the playback tab, double click the item speakers
4. Under the enhancement, tick the loudness equalization and the laptop will be MUCH louder.

5 out of 5 eggsTruly awesome

Pros: If you are a gamer looking for a new rig and are considering this one, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED... I was a desktop only person until I took a chance with this thing, and wow am I glad I did.

Keyboard is PERFECT, noobs on here saying BAW IT SUCKS, you should be buying a 200 dollar HP netbook.

Specs are amazing for this price, it boots before you can blink and it runs whatever you want it to. Any game, any program.

THE SCREEN... is stunningly beautiful. 17 inches of full 1080p HD paired with these specs and keyboard just throws this thing from excellent to a must have for mobile gaming and computing.

AUDIO, EXCELLENT, whether you are plugged into external speakers or not, it provides crisp clear audio and the THX TruStudio options make it even better.

Cons: NONE so far, one thing I wish I could change is the location of the S-bar app on the desktop. It displays a blue star you hover over to access it's features. What this does is give you a type of custom quick launch bar for the MSI software included. It also functions the row of touch buttons along the top of the keyboard, if you exit the program you lose function of some of those keys, not a big deal though.

Other Thoughts: 99% of cons I read from other reviewers turned out to prove one thing, they have no business owning a machine like this. Crying about a SteelSeries gaming keyboard on a gaming laptop? LOL what is wrong with you? Saying the audio sucks, HOW in any way does it suck? This LAPTOP has a SUBWOOFER.....

I had to submit a picture of my free DIRT 3 voucher to receive my key. I'm assuming it will take a few days for AMD to validate it, just a heads up for anyone expecting to jump right on DIRT 3 when they open this thing.

Also the included STARCRAFT 2 trial voucher doesn't seem to work anymore. In the fine print it says VALID UNTIL JAN. 31, 2011 which is far gone so I'm assuming I'll have to contact NVIDIA directly to get a new and working one.

5 out of 5 eggsGood gaming laptop and great service

Pros: Nice gaming laptop with high end graphic card GTX 570M. Nice keyboard color led. But when my 1st this laptop have some problems, mic faint and my LCD have black grey dark spot. Costumer service fast response they send me RMA within minutes, I send that back for replacement. My RMA was approved within 4 bussiness days.

They send me replacement with UPS 2nd day air. I will shopping again at Newegg.

Cons: Good Service will make buyer/costumer happy, I will shopping at Newegg again

4 out of 5 eggsA great laptop with a few quirks

Pros: This laptop is a great value - amazing specs in an easy to carry package. My $5,700 Alienware desktop replacement laptop constantly overheated from day one. This thing just keeps rolling right along through Crysis, Battlefield 3, and a thousand Google Chrome tabs. The backlit keyboard looks great in a dark room.

Cons: 1. The keyboard's arrow keys positioning take some getting used to.
2. Around one out of every hundred key-presses doesn't register for some reason. Spell check catches it when it's text related, but when it's a key-press in a game it's much more of an annoyance. Press hard.
3. Nvidia doesn't have official or beta drivers for the 570m on their website yet and MSI's drivers are from back in May. It'll still plays games just fine with these drivers, but Battlefield 3's beta refused to launch without more recent drivers - just something to consider.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a great laptop priced very well considering the hardware in it. The cons don't bother me very much and I still believe it's money well spent. I'm a Marine constantly on-the-go and this fits my needs perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very powerful
Excellent sound
Brilliant screen
'Nuff said folks buying this know what to expect power wise.
Cooling- this thing flat out ROCKS cooling wise. Second day of ownership I downloaded MSI Afterburner program to get video card running at proper speed and for monitoring heat. I HIGHLY advise anyone purchasing this laptop or any of the other MSI GTX570 series laptops to download that program. As others have stated, video card comes underclocked stock. You can setup and save custom video card configurations with the MSI afterburner program.
I ran the Heaven benchmark program (comes with laptop)with every setting set to maximum. MSI afterburner reported a little under 70 celsius once test was complete. Not bad at all. Clicking the cooler boost button on the top of keyboard, reran test, dropped temp over 12 degrees celsius under full load. It is fairly loud when you are running the cooler boost however.
Keyboard-see other thoughts

Cons: Keyboard-Again,see other thoughts. Could be a pro or a con depending on what you as a buyer are expecting out of this laptop...

Other Thoughts: Anyone buying this laptop knows it is a powerful gaming laptop. It is primarily designed for gaming, not for typing novels. On that note, some folks have dished on the keyboard and touchpad on similar models. As far as the touchpad goes, I used it for about the first 2 minutes upon my first boot then hooked up my mouse. I do not know why you would use the touchpad unless you are using this thing on a long flight and do not have enough room for a mouse?
As far as the keyboard goes, it feels very solid when you type on it and there is no flex in the middle of the keyboard like some cheaper keyboards. You DO have to press a little harder on the keys! Being a gaming designed laptop, the windows key is relocated to the right side. The enter key is also physically smaller. Again, this laptop is designed for gaming not typing out war and peace or a lengthy thesis for your doctorate. Personally, I have no problem with it and love the back lighting and lighting personalization.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat but not practical.

Pros: Its a great laptop with a price/power ratio I cannot complain about.
- Once getting used to the keyboard it is very satisfying to type on.

Cons: - Touch-pad goes crazy or unresponsive , very frustrating.
- The keyboard takes some getting used to, but once you use it a while it's not so bad.
- The touch area around the power button seems to scratch just by touching it.- Keyboard LED is nice but not really practical. Only works after start-up.
- There is a blotched area of pixels that seem to be expanding quickly, very frustrated that after two-three weeks I'll have to return this, leaving me without a workstation.
- Still have not gotten any information regarding my extended warranty and there was no information regarding this in the box as far a Factory warranty.

Other Thoughts: Going to have to return this or ship it out to get the monitor replaced.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far very impressed.

Pros: - Specs are fantastic. Games run on very high settings with the laptop fresh out of the box.

- Runs cool. The fan is very quiet on low. As it spins up it can be audible but in no way is it annoying or distracting.

- Screen looks great.

- Speakers are fantastic.

- All inputs and outputs are nicely placed.

- The front of the laptop is very smooth and comfortable to lay ones wrists on.

- The back lighting on the keyboard is really nice.

- The brushed finish of the casing looks great and doesn't pick up hand prints.

- Touchpad on/off toggle is easily accessible. Thank goodness for this button, your left palm will graze the touchpad while typing.

Cons: - The keyboard. The design is just terrible. The keys can be pressed on the corners in a way which will usually results in missed keystrokes. With a bit of attention paid to typing this can be avoided. Shame on steelseries for making such wobbly keys. I do feel with a bit of use I will become accustomed to the keyboard and suffer less errors.

- The touch pad sucks. I think all touchpads are garbage, but this one likes to randomly stop accepting input. Apparently this can be fixed by a driver update but like any serious computer user, I just plug in a mouse (I actually ordered a cordless travel mouse from here a few days ago for that purpose).

- The VGA out seems to have alot of interference. Only tested on one monitor so far.

- Bloatware. Pretty easy to remove... but still such obnoxious software (I plan to format this laptop when I get some free time).

- The p1 censor on the bar above the keyboard isn't very responsive.

- No caps/num/scroll indicators.

Other Thoughts: This is a fairly large laptop, but I am still able to fit it in my medium sized backpack with the power bar and a change of clothes and still get around on a bicycle. I use a wireless solar powered keyboard and g500 corded mouse while running this into my 50' tv via HDMI for some awesome gaming.

I docked one egg due to the keyboard and frustrating touch pad (which I haven't bothered to try and fix via drivers).

Love this laptop!

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT GAMING LAPTOP!!!

Pros: Had it a few days. So far so good. The thing looks amazing with the rainbow backlit keys(which you can change to your liking). The screen, the keyboard, the speakers, and touchpad are all amazing. Its blazing fast. The ONLY thing that could have made it better would be an SSD drive. Other than that its pretty darn perfect. Very impressed with MSI so far. I'm a DJ and a gamer so I'll be using this for my live sets as well. The colored keyboard will look nice!

Cons: None so far. No SSD maybe? If you want to really get picky.

Other Thoughts: I went to Dillards and got a $300 Samsonite laptop bag for 50% off today. Can't beat that. The ones at Best buy and Hhgregg all looked cheap and unprofessional.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing, keyboard is jacked

Pros: laptop is blazing fast, performs very fast and the laptop in general looks good.

Cons: The keyboard is messed up. I have to slam a key dead center for it to respond which in gaming just doesn't cut it. It doesn't detect keystrokes made on the corners and it seems to be getting worse.

t came with a broken keyboard, the W and E and 1 and 2 and other keys must be slammed to respond, rendering the laptop useless for games (such as SC2).

Keyboard is becoming increasingly unresponsive, note the missing letters in the previous section... missed keystrokes happen fairly often. The keyboard fails to detect strokes that are made on the corners. You basically have to hit the key RIGHT in the middle for it to register.

Other Thoughts: If you're iffy like I was about purchasing this laptop for this exact reason, I suggest you stay away until MSI figures it out. I rolled the dice and I don't know if I got a bad batch or what, but it's pretty disappointing.
