5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Was looking for a Laptop that would last and could handle high end gaming with around 15inch screen. Was planning on buying the MSI model below this one when newegg post this one so have had it since it was released. I have had zero issues.
Built my own desktop less then 3 years ago with top of the line gear and I could not believe how this laptop kills that machine. Windows load quick and games run with no problem.
This thing can compete with the top gaming laptops but for much less. The sound system is amazing for a laptop and having a blue-ray player that plays HD movies which looks great on this machine was a nice feature.

Cons: The one thing I would have liked is a back lit keyboard but has not been a major issue for me but others might have a problem with that. This thing is very powerful so it will drain the battery so make sure you have a charger handy. Also, it is heavy for a 15 inch but not the worst.

Other Thoughts: Been buying from Newegg for years and been lucky to have no issues with equipment. This is my first review of a product because it was such a great machine.

4 out of 5 eggsNotebook ticks all the right boxes..BUT!

Pros: (For a notebook) Smokin' fast graphics, tons of RAM, AWESOME non-TN matte/non-glare LCD display that's hellaciously bright and vibrant, best sound ever from a notebook soundsystem, two 500GB HDDs in RAID 0 lessens the pain of not having SSDs, price is definitely right, it's not obnoxiously large/heavy. Battery life is excellent for such a high performance notebook. Contrary to some reviews, the keyboard feels solid enough and has good typing feel. No, it's not a Thinkpad, nor does it cost like one. It runs MUCH cooler than I expected and one can use it on a bed without a laptop pad without it getting hot enough to be a concern.

Cons: My pet peeve: MSI, you put a freaking 1x1 single-band WiFi NIC in this thing!?!?! It's an Intel Centrino-130. Are you KIDDING ME!? The WiFi adapter in this SUCKS. Ok, that's not entirely fair. It works. It's adequate. Range is good. But I have a 110Mbps cable connection that actually DOES 90-100Mbps (and had to get a new router as a result). Other laptops with 2x2 and 3x3 NICS? No trouble running that fast in decent signal areas. This one? Unless it's perfect signal, I can't get that much throughput. And i really need 5.8Ghz to get consistent speeds. This can't do it.

Beyond that? The sound, as good as it is, is still limited by physics. I don't miss external speakers nearly as much now, but I still want 'em available. RAID 0 scares me a bit as if one of the two notebook drives fail it's ALL gone. Imaging to an external drive goes from good preventative practice to an absolute necessity. Finally, it's still too hot to use in a lap when gaming though.

Other Thoughts: The first unit I got had some display issues that necessitated an RMA. Check over your unit thoroughly and run the internal windows 'display calibration' to see the panel under all conditions and ensure it functions properly. NewEgg was great about doing an advance exchange.

1 out of 5 eggs3 RMAs < 1 year

Pros: Works well at times

Cons: I am writing this review on the GT600 series in general. I have had a GT680R for almost a year now. It has been RMA'd twice now for the same issue. Both times it would stop charging unless you actually were pulling down on the power cord where it plugged into the back of the laptop. I just recieved my laptop back from its second RMA yesterday. It was reset to factory defaults with one issue. Before I sent it back it had a max resolution of 1920x1080. Now the max resolution it lists is 1366 x 768. I have updated all drivers and it still tells me when I try to set the resolution any higher that it is not supported by my monitor. I tried calling tech support and sat on hold for about 5 minutes when I was dumped into an answering machine and told to leave a message. So I sent an email to tech support, about 4 hours later the only response is a new RMA! Not a single person interested in trying to help me. But yet again asking me to pay to ship my laptop back.

Other Thoughts: Find a company with better customer suuport when something goes wrong
