3 out of 5 eggsWorked great till it didn't

Pros: Fast, good looking, stable. Handles temp(in the laptop) well. Packaging was great and wasn't over loaded with bloat. Newegg as always delivered on time.

Cons: Bought in Jan by Nov when its plugged it it randomly shuts down. The power adapter has always gotten really hot. Now its unusable. Not worth the money for 10 months of use.

Other Thoughts: A bit loud if fan is all the way up but i see no other wat to get rid of the heat.

1 out of 5 eggsBlew up after 8-months

Pros: Great features, fast, good price point

Cons: Some minor and then the big one... The stupid thing just powered down on its own and won't boot now. I've owned it for 8 months and paid $2500 for it... And MSI's service is known to be terrible. At best, I've got a fight and a long wait without a primary computer on my hands.

Other Thoughts: Serious hit to MSI's reputation. This thing should not be experiencing hardware problems so soon. What if I do get it fixed / replaced? Will it go another few months and puke again?

4 out of 5 eggsfast

Pros: very fast boots windows in lest then 30 seconds. it runs every game i throw at it flawlessly.

Cons: you have to void your warrenty almost as soon as you get it to replace the soild state drive. the one that comes with it is ok but it bogs down soon after you start loading programs on to it. a computer of this price should come with a better soild state

Other Thoughts: other the the soild state this computer is awsome

5 out of 5 eggsMake your friends drool

Pros: Boots and shuts down faster than any PC I've ever seen. Runs Battlefield 3 (which came free with the purchase of the system) on the highest possible graphics settings without the slightest hitch. Runs completely silent except when the gaming fan is turned on, which works exceptionally well at keeping the system cool at the expense of being somewhat loud. Use the amazing headphones that also come in this package when gaming and you won't notice that, either.

Cons: I personally prefer 1920x1200 resolution to 1920x1080, but it seems like the industry is moving away from 16x10 aspect, so it's hard to blame this given unit for it. The primary drive is a little underwhelming, but it's an acceptable trade-off for the $500+ I saved on this unit as compared to a (Dell) Alienware. The only real downside is that you're out of luck if you're looking for tech support from the niche brands like MSI and Asus... But, judging from the scripted monkeys I've talked to in Dell support lately, that's really not all that worse.

Other Thoughts: This is a great unit that comes with some really cool perks for free. The steelseries headphones are fantastic. The mouse is meh, but the inclusion of a free Battlefield 3 download more than makes up for that. If you're in the market for a gaming laptop and you know what you're getting into a the bulky, heavy "desktop replacement", it's hard to beat this machine.

5 out of 5 eggsNewEgg Rules!

Pros: 1-Fabulous combination of leading edge tech at a very competitive price point.
2-Excellent support experience
3-Great sound for a laptop - has a "woofer" built in!
4-Didnt ship with a lot of crapware
5-Fabulous Screen
6-Surprising battery life
7-Fast
8-Fast
9-Man, it's fast

Cons: 1-Heavy - but that's no surprise
2-Bulky - but no surprise either
3-Bad choice on standard SSD, as reported by others
4-Keyboard takes a bit of getting used to (layout)
5-Tamper proof sticker on chassis

Other Thoughts: Was really wanting something 4 business+gaming since I'm on the road a lot-goodgaming laptop keeps me out of the bars when I travel. Replaced an Alienware M11xR2 (major size change!) which I was very happy with til I found valid reason to need USB-3; and when Skyrim came out it proved inadequate. Immediately replaced the stock SATAII SSD w/Crucial M4-256 SATAIII unit and now this thing is as it should have been all along+still about $350 less than the 17" Alienware I was looking at. It's unfortunate that you have to violate the warranty sticker in order to install the SSD that should have been in the unit all along-now 7.9 on Windows Experience for storage. I had an issue with the USB-3 chip after 4 days, would not recognize any longer - MSI tech support was VERY responsive but wanted to repair unit, as did NewEgg. I was really unhappy to have new unit ripped apart - but a NE supervisor stepped in and authorized 1-time replacement. FABULOUS LAPTOPFABULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesomesauce for tech dads who still game

Pros: Just the premo laptop guys/gals for business and gaming and whatever else you want to do. Heavy, yes, but who gives a Schitt...when u smile like it's the first time you ever powered your first laptop w/ the feeling of the beast within.....lol

Cons: " I quote another reviewer from earlier. He is dead on.. If your spending 2.4, u do some reading.... right? then the 3-4 houndred bucks on 3/4 year I'm an idiot protection, add a few acessories. u are at 4 k ... right? Then they did this, and I quote the gentleman from earlier...."""""Primary hard Disk (data transfer rate) 5.9 out of 7.9; This is unacceptable for such a beautiful machine. Why they put a substandard primary hard disk to work w/ such a great build is beyond me. What would it have cost? another 100 bucks to make this thing smoke, whistle, etc? Such a great gamer/business cpu that needs a new primary before you even turn it on. It's a shame. I really like MSI. Hope they fix this issue ASAP. I doubt they readthis, and I doubt they care to get me a laptop that is consistent w/ the major items across the board. Hope this helps.""""""

Other Thoughts: Read and think about it. Great machine, but make decision about primary hard drive prior. You can always switch it, but void warranty... Hope it helps fellow gamers, dads, and bakers across the land.... lol

5 out of 5 eggsTo inform people (Kirk)

Pros: great laptop
amazing specs

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the highest rating a mechanical hard drive can receive in windows rating is a 5.9 ssd's can score up to a 7.9. a 7200 rpm hard drive is sufficient for a data drive that's why the ssd was included as well.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh price, but you get what you pay for....

Pros: This laptop takes pretty much everything to the next level.

Been running the system for about a week now and after every stress test it out performs. The 580m has yet to not run any of my games at full specs. I have hooked it up to an Optoma 3d projector and can run skyrim and mw3 and max specs which 3d active. Frame rates are super high too.

One of the things I really appreciate is that on your first run, it lets you pick which free loaded software gets installed. I have been running the MSI auto updater that updates everything from bios to video drivers and it has yet to disappoint.

The important thing to remember with this system is that even though the price is high, this system will be top notch for at minimum two years. And even after that it will make a great game machine.

Past but not least, I have been doing some 3d production work with this and I think that's what wins me over the most. I have yet to see a single slow down, even while running UDK, Maya, and Ph

Cons: The only con I can come up with is the backpack that comes with it. It is a bit thin and doesn't offer great protection.

Also, to get the system to work with a 3d projector you have to get the drivers from MSI's website. I don't know if it's an Nvidia thing but with their drivers you won't be able to install.

Other Thoughts: Stop thinking about it and buy it!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop; except one glaring problem

Pros: Processor 7.5 out of 7.9
Memory (Ram) 7.6 out of 7.9
Graphics 7.5 out of 7.9
Gaming Graphics 7.6 out of 7.9
Primary Hard Disk(disk data transfer rate) 5.9; this is unacceptable for such a well put together machine. 5.9 out of 7.9? When rest of set up is amazing bundle for price, and MSI products. Please change or credit those who want to be able to brag to friends about it, share w/ them, etc.

Cons: Primary hard Disk (data transfer rate) 5.9 out of 7.9; This is unacceptable for such a beautiful machine. Why they put a substandard primary hard disk to work w/ such a great build is beyond me. What would it have cost? another 100 bucks to make this thing smoke, whistle, etc? I doubt they readthis, and I doubt they care to get me a laptop that is consistent w/ the major items across the board. Hope this helps.

Other Thoughts: Send me and anyone else a new one of these w/ a primary hard drive upgrade, and this would be one of the nicest 2-3k laptop period on the market that alot of us older techies could use to game, and do some work from home, at the office, etc.
