5 out of 5 eggsRunning great after a year.

Pros: Great speed, great power, good memory if you add your own. Durable, reliable

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is the first MSI laptop I have bought ( I have had toshiba and acer before). Great laptop. Still running strong after over a year of use. As soon as I bought it, I swapped out the ram for 16 gigs of 1600 and this thing is a BEAST!. I use it for CAD, Video Editing/Finishing, Sound editing, 3d animation (maya) and school work. Very happy with the results. Go MSI!

4 out of 5 eggstouch pad problems

Pros: The computer hardware works fast and great. It handles most games that i play around high or highest settings.

Cons: The left click on the touch pad hasn't worked since the 4th week of me owning it. Not necessarily a problem for me because i always use a real mouse. I think its a problem with the right click always thinking that its pressed. I'm not sure.

Other Thoughts: The Nvidia settings will set the intel graphics as the primary driver for certain games but that's an easy fix in the Nvidia program that comes default.

I'd send it to customer service but that would leave me without a computer in college for an indefinite period of time. Not worth the trouble in my opinion.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop But Worst Costumer Service!

Pros: Very fast and I love the keyboard. The screen looks awesome and has a very nice webcam. The lid does smudge a lot but nothing that the occasional wipe down wont fix.

Cons: The left an right click never worked on my laptop. So I registered it online and sent it in for the warranty repair. They have had it now for 3 weeks and when the customer service is actually open they cant even tell me when it might be ready! I will have to leave another review if I ever get my laptop back as I am currently using my old MacBook (which still works great after 4 years and I have never had a problem with Apple customer service). I would have given this laptop a better rating if I had ever been given the chance to use it and/or would get it back from the manufacture.

Other Thoughts: Be weary of the support as you probably wont get any. This is my first MSI product and most likely my last.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome value for money

Pros: Great specs for the price. The processor is fast, the GPU is pretty decent, the 1080p matte screen is great. Get about 4 hours of battery life doing just web surfing, which is fair for a machine of this power. Is not heavy for a machine of this performance class. Keyboard takes a little getting used to, but has decent feedback and is not mushy at all. Speakers are great. Very happy with the machine.

Cons: Setting up the Nvidia graphics is tricky under Ubuntu, thanks to Optimus. However, Bumblebee project + Nvidia proprietary drivers finally did the trick.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy it

Pros: First of all I read a lot of complaints about this before I bought it---specifically criticizing the touchpad and the plastic build quality. People are saying that the touch pad is junk and it's too sensitive. They are dumb. When I unboxed the laptop, the touch pad was a bit touchy, but THERE ARE SENSITIVITY SETTINGS for it. I turned the sensitivity down a little bit, and it's probably one of the best touch pads I have ever used. It has many multi-gesture features:

2 fingers to scroll up and down pages
2 fingers to zoom in and out
2 fingers to open a new tab
3 fingers switch windows
3 fingers to open a drop-down menu

and much more. I'm not sure why it's listed as a single-touch does a lot of multi-touch things.

As for the build quality, yeah it's plastic but it doesn't bend and shear and twist. It's like any other laptop, except lighter. The screen may be slightly more flexible than most laptops, but that's only if you grab it by both hands and twist it. And if you're doing that to your laptop, perhaps a laptop is not what you need....

The 1080p screen is awesome. I was debating whether to buy this or the Lenovo Y580, and I went with this because it went on sale for a while and was less expensive than the Y580 with the 1080p screen. Plus, I owned a Lenovo years ago and the hard drive failed on the 2nd day after I got it. And everyone was complaining about the Y580's GTX 600M failing them, and that's not something I wanted to worry about.

The GT 650M on this thing is great. I've had the laptop for 2 months and its hasn't failed me yet. I can play the campaign on Battlefield 3 on ultra graphics no problem. In multiplayer, I can do high graphics with no framerate lag.

As for the temperature, the GPU has never gotten above 60 degrees celcius and the HDD has never gotten higher than 48 celcius. And both of these maximums only occur after a good half hour of intense gaming.

The turbo fan is really useful for cooling the system down. It is sort of loud but you're buying a gaming laptop--what do you expect. The GPU and HDD cool down in a few minutes after gameplay.

The speakers are amazing. I had an HP Pavilion with Altec Lansing speakers and IDT audio that I thought were great until I heard these. For laptop speakers, they produce excellent sound, and they can get really loud too. Install foobar and ASIO4ALL and you will have the best sounding laptop out there.

Here's a list of pros if you didn't read above:

Beautiful screen
GeForce GT 650M (it actually works)
Intel i7
4 great speakers
Good touchpad

Cons: There are a few cons, but not anything that should curb your decision.

The optical drive is a bit loud when it's reading from a disc, but after you install most games you don't need the disc anymore these days.

The biggest con for me was an issue with the HDD. It is a Hitachi drive that's designed to save power and keep the heads from crashing. It does this by parking the heads every 10 seconds or so, depending on what you're doing. The effect of this is it makes a quiet clicking sound that can be alarming on a new laptop. What's more, every time it does this the Load/Unload Cycle count rises, and laptop HDD's aren't rated for more than like 600,000 of these usually.

This all may sound bad, but it's really not. The HDD was designed to do this, and if you are worried about it, there is a solution which I personally use:

Download this thing called QuietHDD.exe and run it whenever you start your computer. Set the APM settings to 160 for AC and 128 for DC. Never set these to 0. Set the AAM settings to 224 for AC and 192 for DC. What these settings do is manage the amount of power your HDD uses and the amount of sound it produces---a higher APM setting means the HDD uses more power but the heads park less often. A lower APM setting is good for running on battery because it uses less power and the heads park a little more often, in case you bump the laptop when it's mobile. Just never set the APM to 0--I did once and got a warning message the next time I turned the laptop on.

Other Thoughts: I can get to, and use, my desktop in 34 seconds after I press the power button on this thing, every time.

The glossy cover is neither a pro nor a con--just wipe it clean every now and then, or be a normal person and don't worry about it because that's not what you look at when using the laptop.

This laptop can really do a lot for its size and its cost. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Great sound for a laptop, 1080p Screen, i7 2.2ghz, M-sata,
Nvidia Geforce 650m GT 2gb so runs all my games nicely.
This laptop has a Turbo button on the front that allows you to manually turn on the fan to help keep your laptop running good.

It also has a pretty OK webcam. It's 720p @30fps. I kinda expected something more fancy but this is fine.

Cons: Fingerprint Magnet

Other Thoughts: Backlit keyboard would have been awesome but not something to lose the laptops score over. It's a great deal and something for less than a grand.

5 out of 5 eggsThin and Light High-Performance Laptop

Pros: * Thin and lightweight. Unlike most gaming laptops, this does not have the wedge shape. It is the same thickness in the front and the back.
* Amazing sound quality. There are four speakers in this laptop, and they sound great compared to most other laptops, even at full volume.
* Unused mSATA slot for an additional SSD.
* Very easy to open the bottom cover to do cleaning and replace components. (See other thoughts below.)
* Stays cool to the touch. The CPU and GPU share a single fan with a vent on the left side of the laptop. Fan is quiet and also has a button to put it at full speed. (Of course, this will increase the noise considerably.)
* BIOS POSTs very quickly, helping you get to your desktop faster.
* Great keyboard with a full number pad.
* Latest 3rd generation Intel Core i7 CPU.
* Amazing screen. 1080p resolution provides great quality and extra screen estate for multitaskers. Matte (non-glossy) screen coating makes it easy to see the screen, even in direct li

Cons: * No keyboard backlight. Would've been nice to have, but definitely not a deal-breaker.
* Fingerprint magnet. Around the screen, lid, and palm rest are all glossy plastic.
* Touchpad is sometimes a bit too sensitive, but works well in general.
* Battery life could've been better.
* May be hard to remove devices from the USB ports, as they have quite a grip. Of course, this could be a pro, too.

It may take a while to get used to the keyboard if you typically only use a full desktop keyboard. After a month of use, I'm a lot more familiar/comfortable with the keyboard now. The only issue I still have every once in a while is holding down a key for an extended period of time. (Ex: Holding the W key to walk sometimes requires a bit more pressure than I would've expected.)

I couldn't remove an egg for any of the cons, this is still an amazing laptop at a great price, and these are mostly non-issues in typical daily use for me.

Other Thoughts: There is a warranty sticker covering one of the screw holes on the bottom of the laptop. However, I called MSI support about this and they said that it is fine to remove and will not actually void the warranty, just that they only support what is included with the laptop, which is perfectly understandable.

I upgraded the RAM to 16GB (Newegg Item #N82E16820231533) and replaced the hard drive with a Samsung 830 Series 256GB SSD (Newegg Item #N82E16820147164). The BIOS POSTs quite fast, so I'm at the Windows desktop only about 20-30 seconds when doing a cold boot with this SSD.

Battery life is only okay. You can get 3-4 hours just browsing the web, or about 1-2.5 hours gaming, and these estimates are after I replaced the HDD with a SSD and with around 40% screen brightness. Your mileage may vary.

Just my personal preference, but I wish they would've left out the disc drive to make it a bit thinner/lighter.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice computer for an Excellent price.

Pros: It runs everything I play very smoothly. It maintains a good temperature and doesn't over heat. Looks really nice. The 1080p screen is awesome. The speakers are very nice. Everything about it is good. The speakers are very nice.

Cons: The keyboard isn't very responsive at times, and causes typos if your not used to it.

Other Thoughts: It has 4 speakers (one at each corner) but it doesn't have an option for quadraphonic sound. I almost gave it 4 eggs because of this, but I think that over all it deserves 5.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect 5 eggs!

Pros: This computer is everything I wanted, I previously bought a large gaming laptop for college and it weighed 10lbs and was 18.6 inches. The keyboard was awful.
This computer has an amazing keyboard, perfect size, super fast. I did a lot of research on this machine and it was well worth it. I could not have asked for a better laptop. Things on my old laptop that I did not like: power plugin on the right side(interferes with mouse if i plug in), the buttons were not physical they were touch(accidently pressed them all the time while gaming), too heavy, huge power block, bad keyboard. All of these things are perfect on my new machine. The power plugin is on the left, the buttons are now physical and in the back so there is no way to accidently press them, it is half the weight , smaller block, and perfect keyboard.

Cons: The touch-pad is the only thing that is little weird, it definetly does not ruin the build just took a little getting used to. Also the battery is fairly week only lasts max of 3 hours. I'm just going to get another battery so no big deal. Lastly the block is a little big but I don't care it was a well worth investment for how light the laptop is.

Other Thoughts: Perfect purchase, very satisfied. No blu-ray or back-lit keyboard. I wasn't looking for one with anyway.
