4 out of 5 eggsMSI GT 70

Pros: Love the led backlit keyboard although the lights are not all the same color, my ALTGR and CTRL keys are off color. other than that, gaming over all is fast.

Cons: First off the keyboard sucks for typing. more double typing then any other notebook that I have ever owned. Second the GPU although fast isn't easily swappable. for a company that make a ton of PC part, we should be able to swap stuff at will like most of gaming PC companies. killer gaming network always hs glitches but as far as i can tell that isn't MSI's fault.

Other Thoughts: LAST TIME I will ever buy an MSI Laptop even my old ACER (no where close to being a gaming PC) came with instructions on how to change the GPU/CPU/RAM and HARD DRIVE. I haven't done anything but leave it stock. but that isnt the point. laptop fraggers buy something else.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Worth The Frustration

Pros: This laptop is very appealing to the eye. It's built for speed and strength. It does a great job with graphics.

Cons: For the price tag there should be more RAM and a nice size SSD. Also, it should come with Windows 8 pre-loaded. The overall quality and long-term value of the laptop isn't that great considering the cost. *Newegg's return policy on this laptop is terrible. My Space button didn't properly work, and they tried to tell me I was wrong. Luckily, I made a video of me opening the box and a video of the malfunctioning space bar. Even with that, Newegg still made me jump through hoops to return it for exchange. Finally, I asked for a refund due to terrible customer service and pure incompetence on behalf of their "tech" team. That was a whole new nightmare, and almost a month later - during which time I had no computer, I finally got my refund. I'll NEVER buy anything of importance from this company again.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst one was DOA, finally got a great replacement.

Pros: Fast, runs cool, looks and sounds awesome.

Cons: Does have a decent amount of bloatware, but its manageable.

Other Thoughts: The F3 recovery system requires that your C drive be named OS_Install. That is definitely a weird choice by MSI.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustration

Pros: None, until now. Waiting for RMA.

Cons: It's frustrating after spent almost $2k for a laptop and second day shipping (need it in a hurry), simply open the lid to see an horrible bend in the palm rest panel over the touchpad (bad assemble), start the laptop and also see dead pixels in the black screen of boot. How bad can be a manufacturing quality process that "didn't see" these before package? Then, for submitting an RMA to get a replacement, the Newegg personnel split all questioning through several emails to delay a solution!

I really want this laptop and accept to wait reasonable time for a replacement, also I got a good experience buying in Newegg (Asus g73 laptop, a couple of years ago, that arrive in good conditions). But this time the whole process made me reluctant to buy again from Newegg. I recognize that it's not their fault for the laptop conditions, but the customer deserves more feedback in the solution of a replacement for a bad product received.

2 out of 5 eggsshould have read more reviews

Pros: This laptop plays games very well. Its fans are somewhat quiet, even on high. the screen is big.

Cons: Everything breaks. The wifi card worked half of the time. the battery life is atrocious. just today, i opened the lid and there is a giant line of dead pixels running right down the screen and nothing fixed it. Definitely returning. the customer service is a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: just read the reviews and buy something else

1 out of 5 eggsArrived with gpu and warranty seal broken.

Pros: Beautiful laptop, and the hardware specs are to die for. Screen was gorgeous, the cpu ran perfectly, and the fan boost feature is awesome.

Idle temps were 38-41C for both gpu's and cpu.

Cons: My product arrived with it's warranty seal broken, which is a pretty bad deal, and the dedicated gpu did NOT work for more than 2-3 seconds at a time without BSODing (Probably heat/voltage related)

No amount of fiddling with the drivers, or reformatting, has solved the BSOD. Also happened on a freshly burned Ubuntu 12.04 LiveCD. The initial BSODing took place in a new install of Win7. The integrated intel HD 4000 appears to work flawlessly, for what it's worth.

I'm not sure how the warranty seal got broken, but I assume that someone designed to peek inside my brand new GT70. This is most likely the reason why the gpu is also broken.

this is not really a con for the laptop itself, but I would definitely be weary purchasing this laptop after reading this.

Other Thoughts: I will gladly raise my review to 4 or 5 stars if the RMA process goes smoothly, and hopefully faster than the usual, considering I payed next day shipping and bought such an expensive item for college. I won't be a return customer otherwise. Newegg has been great to me in the past, don't fail me this time please.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful packaging delay, laptop barely works now that its here!

Pros: Beautiful in every way, great sound, great screen, nice specs.

Cons: Laptop has yet to do anything but BSOD or freeze completely when I try to launch a game. I have had NOTHING but trouble so far.

I have updated the drivers for both nvidia and intel graphics, directly from the MSI website, and nothing has solved my issue. The only thing i can do is hard reboot when it freezes.

I need this laptop for my Electronic Engineering major, and definitely don't have the time to RMA this piece of junk. Honestly, MSI or Newegg should be fined for shipping out a laptop this expensive, with obvious hardware defects.

Other Thoughts: Newegg took forever to package my product, and had 1-2 days to ship it out so that my next day delivery would reach me on saturday. My laptop came on tuesday, after my other order reached me on the proper date.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Please kindly perform a backup of all of your data if you can, restart your PC, when MSI logo shows up then tap on the F3 key continuously to launch MSI Recovery Manager.
Performing the factory recovery can help to resolve many software-related issues, unless the cause of the issue is hardware-related.

If it's hardware-related issue then the product needs to come in for RMA service.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Specs. Plays Skyrim well. Deus Ex: Human Revolution needs the settings cranked down quite a bit to run well, but I think this is more of a driver issue than a horsepower issue.

Matte Screen. Probably not the greatest thing ever (not a videophile), but I am enjoying my gaming and netflix experiences.

Backlit keyboard - but only the backlight - see cons

USB 3.0 ports. These are standard on most machines at this stage. I'd advise staying clear of machines without 3.0 support since, although I don't own any usb 3.0 peripherals, I probably will in the future, and laptops are not the most upgradable pieces of hardware in the world.

Cons: In a laptop with four cores and 12 GB RAM, MSI deemed fit to disable virtualization and to leave no option in the BIOS to enable it. This machine would be very well suited for VirtualBox otherwise.

If you use linux, (I dual boot win7 and ubuntu 12.04) you will not be able to use the ethernet port or the GTX 675M. You'll be limited to the integrated graphics chipset and WiFi. Also, on battery, you are limited to integrated graphics. Between this and the virtualization issue, it seems like MSI doesn't want you to use the horsepower that this machine has.

I must admit, I bought this after reading many reviews criticizing the keyboard, and even so, I must say that I am absolutely astounded at how bad a keyboard can be. You can never really get used to this keyboard - I've used it for a lot or writing. The spacebar, the n key, backspace and return keys in particular are unbelievably finnicky. And this laptop proudly bears a "keyboard by steelseries" logo. If steelseries means you need steel fingers like an early model terminator, then that's a pretty accurate description.

You have to break a "Warranty Void if Seal is Broken" sticker in order to access the RAM and HDDs. The only thing MSI wants you swapping out is the battery.

Other Thoughts: I get about 2 hours office work off of one charge of the battery. This is a desktop replacement, and as such, is more designed with being plugged in more than other forms of laptop. Not a criticism or a complement, just a fact for any potential buyers.

I'm a small guy, and not strong for my size either, but I have no problem bringing this laptop plus the extremely bulky power brick on a 1 mile bike ride to and from university every day. Just make sure you have a big bag to carry this on your shoulders if you want it to be very mobile. That said, if you want extreme mobility, don't consider "Desktop replacement" laptops.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Pat,

Sorry for the issues that you are having with this product.

VT is enabled by default if BIOS is updated to 1.0A/3.0A or newer, see below.
http://service.msicomputer.com/html/popup/techsup/formviewer.asp?esoformid=3012

For your info, Windows is the only certified OS to run on our products. However, you can try the Linux driver from nVidia through the URL below.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-304.51-driver.html

Finally, you are allowed to break the warranty sticker and upgrade components without voiding your warranty, unless physical damages were inflicted upon the system during the upgrade process.

Hopefully all of the above answered your questions, but if you still have any questions or concerns regarding this product, then please do not hesitate to contact us directly at usreview@msi.com and we will be more than happy to assist you, thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsGT 70 open box

Pros: The product I ordered was an open box GT 70 OND 219US
The product came with everything thats normally included
It runs graphics demanding software effortlessly.
It does not heat up very much at all when playing games (starcraft2, WOW, league of ledgends), excellent cooling system. My older system would heat up my bedroom. this system does not I would say the air it pushes out from the vents is about 80-84 degrees. The keybored has a nice feel to it and is not flimsy. The sound from speakers are great mid volume fills the room and when put very loud there is no distortion.

Cons: system arrived and would not play YouTube videos found hardware accelerator had to be turned off in order to play videos.
Had to update all GPU drivers and probl was fixed
Also the system does not come with java installed (which is needed for a lot of applications)
after updating all software drivers system running as it should
This is not really a con* but something to keep in mind.

Other Thoughts: Great system with a ton of "bells and whistles"
If purchasing know it will take some time to propery configur settings in order to get the best performanc. This system as of right now will keep up and may exceed most desktops.
I highly recommend, and newegg thanks for shipping it out so fast!
I received it a day early.
