3 out of 5 eggsSo-so

Pros: Fast

Cons: When I buy a laptop for $2,600 I expect there to be no issue and realy time and effort to make this laptop hum.

I feel it falls flat. There is an issue with my audio jack where everything is gargled, wouldn't a tech team check everything about the laptop before sending it off? The microphone on the webcam can muffle sound input as well.

There is an on-board gpu as well as a fairly decent Nvidia. Only problem is some of the games I do play don't switch over to the proper gpu when necessary and the msi program that allows you to adjust this seems to be missing from the apps, absolutely no where to find this.

The Bluetooth no longer works as I have a mouse that will no longer connect and Windows 8 will not let me remove the device, it only errors.

Windows 8 is a real piece of work. You MUST use windows 8 which does not compliment this laptop in anyway. Win 8 has huge bugs. You CANNOT turn off the annoying Metro UI.

As for spending the $2.6k on a laptop i shouldn't be asking for much that the laptop funcions in every category perfectly. The power brick that comes with the laptop is nothing special. Its the same power brick you buy with every single cheap laptop out there. The power cord connects into the brick then the cord attached to the brick goes in the back of the laptop. I would expect some inovation in this area. How many laptops have I ruined in the past because the powercord was bent wrong or the cable became loose from the brick and you need to then buy a new powerbrick.

Look at Apple, they have a magnet attached at the tip where it connects into the laptop allows no way for you to ever break the cable, Ever.

2.6k and there is nothing new with the powerbrick.

Overall yes its fast, but i think there could have been a lot more effort in making sure their laptop is 100% working and innovative before selling it. This just tells me this company mass produces this expensive device and doesn't care much for what they put out.

Also for whatever reason you CANNOT get a refund. WHY NOT? its my money and your half crafted product.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeed is Money, How fast do you want to go?

Pros: It's amazingly fast. Differences even noted on basic programs like office. Click on a file and it's open before you can move the icon. Load times are nullified, picture is crystal clear, even when sitting in front of a window with the sun shining on your shoulders.

Putting music on and cranking the volume will drown out a TV and small children in the same room -- without the tinny distortion you would expect.

The keyboard is firm, responsive and easy to use.

Cons: I've noticed a couple of issues in some games. For example in Skyrim, I can not read the entire message on the load screens before it is finished loading. On Civ V, I don't have the usual 2 minute break between turns while I wait for it to process the other player's turns. I think the lights dim in the room when I plug it in and turn it on.

Seriously, the zero key on the numeric keypad is small and offset to the right. When using the keypad for 10-key, you have to learn to adjust your thumb. Mine wants to push the right arrow key instead of zero.

Other Thoughts: I do have some issues with Windows 8. I think that deals more with getting used to Win 8 than the PC. The price is high, but I really felt that I got what I paid for. It is solidly built. It has top of the line components.

It is definately more computer than I need, but it gives me bragging rights over anyone else out there, desktop or laptop.

The power supply brick is huge. It is half the size of a high end desktop power supply, and uses a regular Desktop power cord to connect to the wall. The cord from the power supply to the Laptop could be longer.

5 out of 5 eggsA Fantastic Mobile Monster

Pros: Incredibly fast boot times (probably averaging 5 seconds)
Tons of horsepower for gaming
Built-in speakers are actually pretty decent
Design/Aesthetics

Cons: Heavy, not particularly portable
Can get pretty hot during intense processing

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop to replace an aging gaming desktop I built about 3 years ago. With a child on the way, I wanted something that I could play anywhere in the house, so another desktop was out of the question, but a semi-portable gaming laptop was a perfect solution. I scoured the internet for reviews on a huge array of gaming rigs available (Alienware M18X, Asus G75, etc). In the end I chose the MSI for several reasons:

- Good price for the hardware, particularly the NVIDIA GTX 680M
- Design
- Positive feedback from other users

The MSI has not disappointed! I can play all my games maxed out with more than acceptable frame rates. The onboard speakers are actually quite good and have a reasonable amount of bass. I actually really like the aesthetics. Just keep in mind that this thing shows fingerprints like crazy.

It's not particularly portable at near 9 lbs, but for around the house, it works just fine. You'll definitely want to keep this on a solid, flat surface while gaming, the CPU can get pretty hot. While playing Forged Alliance, I was spiking at 80 C. With a laptop cooler, I tend to stay in the lower 70's C.

Overall, definitely worth 5 eggs. Of course, a big thumbs up to NewEgg as well for quick processing.

4 out of 5 eggsGets the Job Done (mostly)!

Pros: 1. Enough power to run modern PC games on Ultra with great performance (Witcher 2, Skyrim,etc.).
2. Sleek design.
3. Awesome speakers that make up for the sometimes loud fan noise.
5. Keyboard feels great and custom colored key light is an awesome feature.
6. Battery life is actually better than most other gaming laptops.
7. Large disk space.

Cons: 1. Windows 8 (at first), while I did eventually get used to it, it's annoying that the computer confuses some of my finger movements on the track pad as multi-touch gestures and that it provides no way to disable them. Performance wise, Windows 8 is faster than 7, noticeably so.
2. Can't run games with 680m on battery. This is a problem that has plagued MSI laptops for a while now and a hassle free fix has yet been developed. The nvidia control panel does nothing. If you want to play games, always make sure you have a place to plug-in.

Other Thoughts: The issue with nvidia Optimus is the only thing preventing me from giving this computer 5/5 stars. I do know that if the laptop were able to use the 680m while on the battery, it would only last about an hour, but neverless, the option should still be available and the tools provided that are supposed to make that happen (the nvidia control panel) do nothing. Only way to fix is to re-install the OS or install a new one (which I did).

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop I have ever used!

Pros: Speed: Incredibly fast. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. This thing runs great, even on max settings. I can throw anything at it and it doesn't seem to bog down. It's a beast for graphic-intensive Photoshop and video editing tasks. I save so much time and work more efficiently. I usually don't install an antivirus and my startup tasks are very minimal, so my average boot time is less than 20 seconds. Make sure you visit MSI's web site and download the latest drivers for your hardware. Also be sure to visit Intel's site and download the latest drivers for HD Graphics 4000 and other hardware.

Turbo boost slightly increases framerates and video rendering speeds. The fan also does a decent job at keeping things cool.

I am using a Logitech G500 mouse and an Asus VH242H 1080p monitor with HDMI and it's a great combination for doing graphic and web work.

Cons: Plugging in my headphones caused the audio quality to degrade and I could not hear specific channels. This was user error though, because I didn't realize that I had to disable the optional center channel, subwoofer, side and rear pair speakers within the Realtek HD Audio Manager. Once I did that the headphone quality was EXCELLENT.

S-Bar utility: The utility is somewhat useful but it doesn't all you to move the toolbar. I like to use Rocketdock for all my application shortcuts but doing so forces me to disable S-Bar.

Cooling: When you turn on the cooling fan and turbo boost it can get pretty loud but it does a good job circulating air.

MSI LiveUpdate 5: I don't trust it. It will scan your PC for missing drivers and software but often times you will find a more recent driver by going to the manufacturer's site instead, such as the case with the Realtek HD Audio and Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers. Never assume that it will find you the latest and best drivers because it will not. Another con is that it doesn't give you the option to prevent it from starting up with your computer. You have to turn it off each time you start up if you want it removed from the taskbar. Frankly, if you are proactive in searching for the latest drivers and perform routine maintenance on your pc, you won't need the LiveUpdate 5 utility.

Other Thoughts: This is not so much a con, but it took me a few days to realize that the nVidia 680m card was not being utilized. When it was first purchased I was using the onboard HD Graphics 4000 chip and it still ran really well. I assumed the graphics card was enabled but it wasn't. Fortunately I visited the nVidia forums and realized that I had to enable my graphics card in the nVidia control panel. I changed almost all of the settings to ultra high quality/performance and globally applied the changes so that my graphics applications run at max settings. Rendering a video was pretty quick using the onboard chip but once I enabled the 680m there was no comparison. The rendering was incredibly fast. Enable the Turbo Boost and you get even faster speeds (but be sure to take advantage of the cooling fan).

4 out of 5 eggsA excellent laptop held down by poor graphics technology.

Pros: Power.

Cons: nVidia Optimus. It will kill you. Pick up a laptop WITHOUT nVidia Optimus technology. While it's a solid attempt to optimize battery life, it unfortunately does not work as intended. Yes, I have looked over tons of Google search results regarding an issue with this "Optimus" technology, but to no avail. If you minimize to your desktop while running an application requiring the dedicated card, it will revert back to its integrated card. This is a weakness a laptop of this price should NOT have.

Pick up a laptop without Optimus.

5 out of 5 eggsBEAST!

Pros: This laptop screams! Its fast, quiet, runs cool, amazing specs, and great sound. All the things I wanted.

No bloatware - THANK YOU!

680GTX blows every game I have away. Everything I've been playing has been on high/ultra. Battlefield 3, Blackops II, CS:GO, Chivalry, Farcry3, Dishonored...come at me bro!

The Raid on the SSD's load everything instantly. Windows starts in seconds. I'm loving the speed.

THX and Dynaudio...yum. My ears are very thankful for that one. Sound...sounds...good?

Keyboard feels smooth. Having a backlight helps with my late night gaming habits.

Strong construction. Everything seems soild. Not too heavy considering its size. No creaks or bending in the plastic when holding it.

Display is bright and colors are vivid. HD never looked better!

Cons: Biggest con for me has been Windows 8. After some tweaking to make it feel closer to W7 it's not as bad. Just wouldn't have been my first choice for a gaming laptop.

Lack of utilities. I would have expected better over clocking programs pre-loaded on a laptop like this. Also...no nero or cd burning software!? MSI could have afforded more software for this price. Even better webcam software would have been nice. The winzip trial is a joke...

Manually having to tell the laptop to use the GF680 GTX card when running games. I expected it to automatically kick in, but it doesn't feel like it is. Had to go into Manage 3D settings and add each game. Should be an easier way to do that.

Touchpad feels weird...just can't put my "finger" on it. I get annoyed constantly when I slide my finger in from the side to move a page over, and the start menu comes up.

Other Thoughts: No extras...would it have killed you MSI to throw us a bone like a mousepad?! Even the wallpaper you had pre-installed was kind of lame. The ones on the website aren't much better between the 12yr old, or the horrible photoshopping effect...it looks poorly done. Not only that...but why only 1280x720 res? For this price other companies even throw in a backpack or something :P

Overall happy however. It's pricey, but the specs I wanted so worth it to me.
