1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy!

Pros: When it works, it is great.

Cons: The first laptop I received just did not power on at all. The second laptop I received ran great for a couple months until the HD went out. No notice or anything, it just went. Win 8 was a big drag for me. I installed Win 7 and am hoping after all the drivers get installed it will last longer this time.

Other Thoughts: I am deployed and not having a computer while waiting for replacement parts kind of sucks. I would not recommend this laptop due to all the issues I have had and have read from others.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money!

Pros: Powerful graphics card, decent speaker system, great keyboard LED function, shortcut keys for Turbo, fans, lights and keys.

Cons: Screen is great quality, very high definition, but I feel like the anti-glare filter makes the colors a bit murky, even at highest lighting.

I game a lot, hence sweaty palms, but the plastic where you rest your wrist and lining the keyboard gets dirty and smudged quite often.

Other Thoughts: One thing to note that I didn't know: You must be plugged in to experience the full graphics potential of the system.

It requires a lot of watts to run that card like it does, and once you pull that plug you'll notice a dip in FPS while gaming.

Kinda hurts the mobility aspect of a gaming laptop, but not enough to de-egg it.

2 out of 5 eggsPlagued with Issues

Pros: - Aesthetically pleasing
- Monster specs which tackle any task / game with ease when running properly

Cons: I bought this laptop to be my mobile gaming device as I travel often for work. The specs speak for themselves. When running properly, the thing is a beast. Except it rarely runs properly. I have been plauged with issue after issue since purchasing this laptop.

The first major concern is that I cannot seem to update the GPU driver with officially released (non-beta) Nvidia Geforce drivers. The updates fail constantly and when I do finally get it installed, the GPU is not recognized by Geforce Experience for game optimization. Games frequently do not use the Geforce card even if the game profile is manually set to use the nvidia card in nvidia control panel -> manage 3D settings.

This is a drop in the ocean in terms of the frustration I encounter from the next issue. Almost every single time I restart the computer, it gets stuck on "Configuring Windows Features" and it takes 20+ minutes to boot to the desktop. I have tried everything including a full reformat with a clean Windows installation, and this problem persists. I have researched the problem online and have found numerous forum threads where owners of the recent lines of MSI products encounter the same issue. I have seen no MSI response on any thread.

Here are the links to some threads where people are experiencing the "Configuring Windows Features" defect:

1. http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=167061.0
2. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/94879a92-7228-4b33-b321-1973effddc29/
3. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_update/configuring-windows-features-issue/c8513da4-b051-4895-ac42-d015833054e2
4. http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/661914-official-msi-ge60-ge70-owners-lounge-180-print.html

Other Thoughts: I have requested an RMA in hopes that MSi has addressed this issue, because the laptop really is very nice looking and I enjoy the feature set. If I encounter the same problem, however, I will be requesting a refund and looking elsewhere. If the new laptop has the same issues, I will be changing my rating to 1 star. If the new laptop works as expected, I will bump it up to 4 for the frustration.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not Buy

Pros: Great Sound
Blu Ray Playback

Cons: Lost data
Doesn't run well
Doesn't power off correctly
Windows 8

Other Thoughts: I am an IT professional and this laptop angers me to no end. It has Windows 8. I have no other experience with Win 8 so I don't know what is windows fault and what is the PCs fault. But... I purchased this to play games on since I will be without Internet for 6 months. I use Steam. I loaded up a bunch of games and threw it into offline mode. I even played some games in offline mode to test it out. I turned off my computer (Yes I'm sure I did it correctly) and I lost all my battery power. When that happened somehow Steam lost my offline data. I have no other games than Steam games which means this PC is a $1500 Blu-Ray player. So I've been watching a LOT of blu ray lately. I will turn off this PC with 100% batt and after 3 days of no use be down to 50%. After 24 hours I'm down to 95%. Steam isn't the only thing it has messed up either. Some applications won't open at all. Some will open sometimes but not others. I factory reset the machine to start again and it all happened again. I didn't install much on this PC. I definitely didn't install anything questionable. The second time I was even more careful. Now I'm gone and away with not internet access and I can't even use this PC what it was meant to be used for. I don't blame steam because I've used offline mode for 4 months on another PC with no issues at all. I blame this PC and Win 8. DO NOT BUY. Applications just don't run right or not at all.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Overall Laptop for Gaming

Pros: When it started working, Worked flawlessly. Most games can run easily at 60 FPS. Very happy with purchase, apart from the massive frusteration that came with getting it set up.

Cons: Oh boy...one thing i must say is do not install windows 7 on this laptop. I got a BSOD reffering to nvlddmkm.sys , which is part of the nvdia driver. This cannot solved unless you write over the existing windows 8 BIOS with one for windows 7 (DO NOT DO). Other than that just stick with windows 8. After installing windows 8 another problem arose where I would get to the desktop only to be greeted to a blinking black screen. This is solved by updating the windows 8 bios from MSI manufacter site. This is the first laptop i have ever bought for myself and wow, what a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: Games/Blu Ray/General Use - Awesome

Setting Up - So happy I had some knowledge on computers before i bought this. Also google is your friend.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Gaming/Entertainment Laptop

Pros: This thing is a monster of a machine! I bought it to replace my desktop and mainly use this for gaming in my living room and browsing the web, and it performs those tasks without any issues thus far.

The LED back-lit keyboard by Steelseries is definitely a nice touch as well. There are several color variations that you can choose from and the keyboard feels very sturdy. It's really a great feature if you play in dimly lit areas often.

Cons: The one area of the laptop that I find a little concerning is the build quality of the LCD back panel and the seam where the back panel meets the front bezel. The LCD itself is bright and vibrant, but the casing seems to have quite a bit of flex to it, and the seam between the front and back doesn't seem to be connected together very well. Hopefully this will not be an issue in the near future, as I really am enjoying this laptop quite a bit already.

Other Thoughts: This machine is heavy and I really would consider it a desktop replacement (that goes for most other gaming/enthusiast level laptops as well). Despite the size and weight, I still find it easy enough to use on my lap, though I would recommend a cooling pad at the least, or possibly a lap desk, as the unit gets quite warm under a heavy load.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't turn on

Pros: None

Cons: Laptop looked great, but would not power on. Would have waited two weeks min. to get a replacement sent. I asked for a refund and will order elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Machine.

Pros: the pros are numerous, its a very powerful laptop, and worth the price for the power. the blue ray optical drive is defiantly a plus. It runs everything on ultra that iv tested so far the back light keyboard is amazing you can customize the light behind it as well. All in all i am very satisfied with my purchase. Highly recommended for any gamer or heavy media user.

Cons: The only true con is windows 8 in my personal opinion if you like windows 8 then your golden.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is defiantly meant for the heavy gamer/ media user. If your looking to get a laptop for business purposes only look else where, but if your a gamer and want the general purpose of a laptop as well this is the perfect choice.

4 out of 5 eggsGood laptop, but a UEFI Nightmare

Pros: 1:This thing boasts a lot of power for the price.
2: The sound is very good for a laptop.

Cons: 1: It comes with windows 8. And yes, it is even worse than you feared.

2:Weight. Everyone knows this is a heavy laptop, but what they don't tell you is that the power brick on this thing is HUGE, and very, very heavy. Easily the heaviest I have ever felt, and I have deployed probably hundreds of laptops.

3:I have been struggling to get Linux to dual-boot on this thing, and as of right now, I think it is literally impossilbe. Win8 is installed using UEFI/EFI partitions (GPT), and I have not found one UEFI-able linux disk to boot this thing, and I have tried at least a dozen. I could probably install linux using MBR if I were willing to wipe the win8 partition, but I'm not. If anyone finds a solution to this, please post it!

4: The touchpad feels cheap, esp. Compared to the new HP laptops or to a mac. It is minor, but I found it a dissapointment.

Other Thoughts: The viewable angle on the monitor is not as good as I hoped. It isn't bad from side to side, but from top to bottom (which is typically more of an issue) it is very noticeable. The colors "wash-out" if the angle of the screen isn't just-so.

It may be possible to buy a lighter after-market power brick for this thing.. that would cut some weight... I haven't researched that yet.

The backlit keyboard on this thing is a gimmick, and not worthy of note. It really isn't as cool as you might thing. If they could do something involving the PHI phenomenon, then maybe they would have something cool, but the colors are static, and therefore uninteresting.

Summary: It is a really good laptop for the price, if you don't want to dual-boot the thing. I only wish it shipped with Windows 7 instead of Windows 8. Windows 8 is enough to make you wish for Vista :0/
