5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Extremely well built, not loaded with crapware. Very fast and way more affordable than any rival (alienware, Asus). Much faster than I expected. Keyboard is just amazing. Fan system keeps things nice and cool, but allows for "turbo" fan mode which causes ice to form on your laptop. (Not literally)

Cons: Heavy and fat, but worth it. You should expect this when buying a gaming laptop.

Other Thoughts: I would totally suggest this laptop and the MSI brand. Bought a laptop over 5 or 6 years back, and it still runs well. Bought the GT70 for myself almost a year back and am loving it. Makes travel bearable

5 out of 5 eggsKiller Laptop

Pros: Very fast. It has a great display and very nice built in speakers which fill the room (which I don't use). Has extra memory and hard drive slots. Great keyboard with nice backlight.

Cons: Terrible touchpad. Pretty unusable. The "Warranty Void" sticker is concerning but I had to send back for repairs and they fixed the lap to no problem and just put a new one on. The case is very weak underneath... I can't imagine this laptop handling a drop well if at all. It's also huge and the power supply is too (as it needs to be) so this is not really portable.

Other Thoughts: Even with a few cons this has been a very solid system so far. Bloatware was easy to get rid of mostly brining the Windows 8 OS back to stock. Great features but you do pay and arm and a leg for them.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on 8/2/13 Review

Pros: All the same Pros as before. Windows 8 took some getting used to, but it's not terrible. This machine is still running every game I throw at it & I have had no issues with hardware or Apps since my last review.

Cons: If you see my previous review, I mention HD noise. After trading laptops with wife, I realized it was actually the DVD & not the HD making noise. Research on the web pointed at many dead ends with this issue, so before I send this unit back, I restored the system with the F3 key @ boot. The good news is there wasn't a lot of personal apps and info on the system to begin with, so I really lost nothing. After restoration, updates & customization for myself, this unit has been running trouble free ever since.

Other Thoughts: I cannot say for sure whether the above issue in Cons existed when purchased as I had not used this unit. My wife stated that it always made that noise when she started using it. The fact that it had to be repaired so soon puts it in the cons category, but the repair was so easy & I was not willing to risk more damage in shipping it back. My best guess was that it was either a wrong or corrupt driver.

Conclusion: If I had to do it all over again, I would. Both my Wife & I didn't think we'd be able to adjust to heavy laptop gaming, but we were proven wrong. When I first started building machines in the 90's, I selected MSI MOBO's, but their support site was confusing then & I switched to ASUS. Although I was skeptical to try again, all the budget/power reviews pointed in this direction so I am glad I made the right choice.

5 out of 5 eggsMore then I expected

Pros: My wife and I where looking for new gaming laptops. I did a lot of research on laptops before I ordered them. I looked at many other makes and models. This MSI fit our needs. It is more then capable of running our games with the video settings turned all the up and still having 60+ FPS. It also has the ability to expand in the future. It can run hot while gaming but kick fan on high and it cools off quickly. The back lit keyboard makes gaming in low light so much easier, also matches our Razer Naga Mice.

All around amazing bang for your buck. I plan on adding on to existing hardware in the future as money allows (ie. SSD's, more memory) which is why I choose this laptop over others.

If anyone is looking for a gaming laptop. Do your research. MSI has a large selection of different laptops using high end components. I bought two and I am not regretting my choice.

Cons: The hard drive is 5400 rpm.

Other Thoughts: My wife and I are gamers. I am more hardcore then she is. We play World of Warcraft and D3 together. I also play BF3 and many other games.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: The keyboard is amazing, speakers are crisp and clear, excellent screen and a pleasure to own. So far not a single glitch or problem. It plays all the games I want easily once you get the Nvidia driver assigning handled.
If you notice a little too much heat coming out of the exhaust use the handy high speed function for the fan. It sounds like a jet is spinning up but WILL for sure cool everything quickly. Headphones easily mask the fan noise if it bothers you.

Cons: Power consumption, size/weight, no e-sata and only 1 extra HDD expansion bay. None of these were serious issues going into it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my first laptop, it seemed like an excellent compromise between budget and computing. I'm not disappointed at all. There is plenty of room for me to upgrade ram and to put in a boot SSD (1TB 5200 rpm HDD isn't enough for me).

The graphics are killer and can handle any game I want at ultra without issue. I highly recommend this for a compromise if you want to upgrade a few things over time.

I will in the future plan to:
Increase the RAM
Add a SSD for a boot drive
Install windows 7 for dual boot
Change out the IC to a better heat conductor

You can get all these done through a 3rd party, or by buying a more expensive version but I'm a guy who likes to choose what goes into my computer for quality.

1 out of 5 eggsBy far the worst product I have ever wasted my money on

Pros: The keyboard light is nice and the charger port being in the middle of the laptop is convenient.

Cons: First the amount of time it takes for the computer to load. maybe 10 minutes. Then any time you try to shut down you enjoy a 10-15 minute windows mandatory update only to allow you another 10-15 minutes windows install once the system is turned back on. This is the most obnoxious computer that I have ever had the misfortune to purchase.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. The price of the computer is not worth the first week trouble. Windows 8 software is slow confusing and has no parallels to windows 7. Please disregard all of the other reviews and don't buy this. I was tricked by the stats on paper and by the positive reviews. This is not worth it trust me.

Pros: It's not one of those flashy look im me gaming computer literally perfect for college students. Love the keyboard great screen just wonderfeul

Cons: If you watch blue ray no blue ray drive, small backspace key and right shift key, if you aren't willing to carry it around then don't buy.

Other Thoughts: Buy an SSD. That is all

4 out of 5 eggsGreat hardware, amateur design

Pros: The 770m and the 4700mq offer stellar performance in games. Everything I've tried (and I have tried a lot) runs flawlessly on max settings. Even the most taxing of games (like Far Cry 3) still run at just over 30fps with all settings maxed.

The speakers are insanely loud and crisp. If you're an audiophile like me, you'll appreciate the ability to listen to your music using the integrated speakers without cringing (as I do with most laptops).

The keyboard is fantastic, and the color settings are fun to customize. I didn't see this advertised, but there are brightness control keys (for the keyboard backlight) on the keyboard. That's very useful. There is also a button that disables the trackpad for when you use a mouse. Again, very useful.

The build is very sturdy. The screen hinges are nice and tight, and there is no flex in the laptop when you pick it up.

The power light indicated which graphics card you're using by glowing orange when it's using the 770m and glowing white when it's using the HD 4600 graphics.

The fan turbo button on the laptop is incredible. It can cool the laptop down in less than a minute, even when being fully taxed. It's great if you want to game with the laptop on your lap. It does make the fan very loud, but even at 30% volume the speakers on this laptop overcome it.

Cons: The trackpad is terrible. The drivers will stop working at random times (even after updating them several times) which makes it stop responding completely. Because of this, I consider it unusable.

The hard drive that this laptop ships with is unacceptable. A 5400rpm drive can and will bottleneck games. If you plan to order this laptop, be sure to order a better drive with it.

This laptop seems to suffer from several minor issues that can get annoying at times. First of all, for the sake of your sanity, just disable Windows updates. Every time my laptop has attempted to update, it takes nearly an hour before failing and trying again the next day. There also appears to be no way to postpone updates in Windows 8, so this can be a bit rage inducing. Also, the capacitive buttons didn't work at first. I had to reinstall the SCM driver and then disconnect all power sources for 5 minutes. Not a big deal, but such minor annoyances can add up- especially when I think about what I paid for the unit.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it's a fantastic machine; but if you buy it, be prepared for some minor headaches here and there. Also, don't forget to order a better drive with it.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded my expectations

Pros: I purchased "two" of these for my wife & I based on reviews from various sites. We are both avid gamers who travel a lot and can't drag our bulky gaming rigs accross country. Out of the box, these machines are eye candy to us. After initial startup & allowing updates to complete, the performance of these machines exceeded that of the quad-cores I previously built for wife & I. Not a big fan of the Win8 interface but was easy enough to switch to the more user friendly interface, so basically a non-issue for us. The 17.3" widescreen & High resolution make gaming a breeze.

Cons: I'm glad I waited to submit this review as my Wifes laptop hard drive, unfortunately, just started grinding randomly, indicating it is getting ready to fail. Although this is discouraging for both of us, as a skilled builder & PC enthusiast, I am aware that these things can happen & is not at the fault of the manufacturer or distributor. I am confident that this issue will be addressed appropriately through one of the these two companies. I have been a satisfied customer of Newegg for a number of years now & they have provided excellent support with the "few" issues I had in the past.

Other Thoughts: In light of the issue mentioned under cons, I am not willing to give up on this machine. This is, hands down, one of the best purchases I've made. These laptops now occupy our desks & our custom quad-core gaming rigs are positioned on the floor awaiting a "For Sale" sign.
