5 out of 5 eggsSuper Fast - Windows 7

Pros: -Backlit keyboard
-Turbo fan (to turn on when the laptop gets very warm - should extend laptop life)
-Beautiful screen
-Super fast CPU
-Super fast video card
-Windows 7 and not the Windows 8 junk that Microsoft tries to shove down everyone's throat.
-BLU-Ray player with DVD/CD burner.
-Has an mSATA slot, which I purchased one from Newegg to make my laptop screaming fast. Without SSD, it took 39 seconds to boot to the Windows desktop. With SSD, 10 seconds.
-7200 RPM 1TB drive. Most laptops give you the junk 5400 RPM drives.

Cons: -I wish the arrow keys were moved slightly down, or they had some physical thing that will make it easier to feel for. For example, the F and J keys usually have a little raised thingy magiggy, that you can feel to identify what keys your fingers are on. Without this, it's hard to find the keys unless you look down.
-The mouse-less pad sucks, but which keyboard has a great pad? None. I always use a mouse, a wireless Logitech one at that.

Other Thoughts: I bought from a different retailer NEW for a ridiculously low $1,049.99, in mid December, 2013, saving like $300!!! Free shipping. I could not believe it and could not let the deal disappear.

Get yourself an mSATA, and use your brains to get it in. I did, without having to fully remove the back plate covering.

Stupid Intel Rapid Storage prevented the BLU-Ray player from reading certain burned files. In fact, I use this same drive to burn DVDs for files like MP3s etc. and I insert it back in and I can't read it!!!! Files are not there. My desktop computer can see it. I had to uninstall Intel Rapid Storage from Control Panel. It's not MSI's fault. It's Intel's.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This computer is a beast, plain and simple.

Backlit keyboard, fan speed controller, huge 17.3" display, Windows 7, 12MB RAM, 1TB HD, GTX 675 has played everything I've thrown at it beyond my expectations.

I simply love this computer, I would not choose any other brand after purchasing an MSI, I would never purchase a laptop with Windows 8 so this coming with 7 was necessary.

Cons: When playing games this thing runs hot, which is to be expected from a GE series. The fan speed boost really helps with heat and I wouldn't think about doing any lengthy gaming without a laptop cooling stand, not really a con but something to keep in mind.

Other Thoughts: Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable and well rounded gaming laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsFollow up Review after 1 week

Pros: See previous review

Cons: Follow up to my earlier positive review. I downloaded HW temperature monitoring software due to hot case, keyboard. Core temperatures were coming in at over 90C while playing World of tanks. Way too high. One could break over 100C if the manual fan control wasn't turned on high. Wrote MSI tech support. First comment was kind of funny. They wanted me to take apart their new laptop and redo thermal paste. I could do it but didn't feel like voiding my own warrenty due to breaking the seal sticker. After a couple emails, have RMA for unit. Undecided if bad luck or design flaw. I have found some threads from people with similiar issues. I will report back if replacement has problems and thus design flaw. Sincerely.

5 out of 5 eggsLaptop

Pros: Fast, nice screen, like the backlight keyboard, manual fan control button (not sure if pro or con yet). Window 7, Plays WOT just fine.

Cons: Pain to get the stickers off around the keyboard (small thing I know), does run warm playing games, you can feel the heat pumping out the side vent. That is where the manual fan control helps. One would think that would be automatic control relative to a temperature sensor.

Other Thoughts: Nice looking laptop open or closed. Plays Civ 5 and WOT as good as my desktops. SSD (after purchase addition) requires mini version which is a bit more costly.

4 out of 5 eggsAbove Average Overall

Pros: Good price for good hardware. Runs FFXIV like a heavyweight champ. Doesn't overheat like my old acer. Beautiful design/nice finish.

Cons: Touchpad is pretty bad. I definitely need a mouse. Can get slightly loud when pumping a game max'd out. Installed FFXIV and a Antivirus so far for programs..not too impressed with the start up/speed of things like I thought I should be.

Other Thoughts: Hard to describe here...but it feels more like a desktop replacement than a laptop replacement. Nevertheless, I was seeking a powerful gaming machine and am satisfied.

5 out of 5 eggsMid level gaming machine

Pros: I wanted a laptop to travel with that I could play some games on, do HD Video without the pixeled look, and just overall a nice computer without shelling out big bucks. This laptop does a good job on this front I have played some portal 2, some diablo 3, and a few various games. All play well and I am enjoying it. I also like the fact that it is upgradeable. Like I can install a SSD, upgrade the ram to a full 16GB , all while keeping a nice laptop for a few years longer. I like the non-glaring screen it works well cause who whats to watch themself's browse the internet or see yourself in the dark abyss of a game. However, the screen is bright I have it currently at 1/3 of the full brightness because it so bright to me and you can see all the details in HD videos plus it comes with a Blu ray player so yeah awesome. It of coarse comes with all the unnecessary software that I'll never use but, not as much as some laptops come with. One thing I do like about this computer is that it has two yeah two graphics cards. An intel and a Nvidia 765m. now it doesn't use both at the same time I far as I can figure. It switches between them depending on the graphical requirements your application demands. Which is nice in that fact that browsing the web or playing videos or using office type apps uses the Intel power saving card and playing Portal 2 or something similar Nvidia kicks in. However, I didn't believe this computer wood ever rival my custom built desktop and NO it does not even come close. I think it is more of a mid level gaming machine for people that want to play games. Sound is actually nice reproduces far lower than any laptop I've ever hear before. Not that you will be a thumping like a boombox but, its not tinny sounding at all.

Cons: Fist thing I noticed was the silly key layout for instance DEL is usually right above the backspace and the sound keys are usually separate. Maybe its just me but, I'll deal with it since it isn't my primary computer. The other thing that really does bug me is the HDD is formatted an partitioned in to three parts, two of which you can see in Windows. One is 552GB main drive, Second was 368GB and the rest is on a portion windows cannot see. I am unsure what is on the other portion but, seeing windows is pre installed not much you can do. Except use the MSI Burner software to make a recovery disc and reportion the drive and re install. Only other thing I noticed is the sound doesn't go very loud to me anyway. Headphones will most likely fix this but, I am ok with it.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded it to Win 7 Pro so I can use XP mode. MSI is one of the very few that make new high end laptops with Windows 7 installed. They are my saving grace. Thanks MSI

1 out of 5 eggsPoor customer service

Pros: Windows 7 vs 8, Decent hardware

Cons: Extemely poor customer service and bad forums.

Had a bad battery on my purchase of a msi notebook. I called in for support of the issue and they realized they shipped me a bad battery. They initially wanted me to ship the bad battery back. When I argued, and they relented to ship me a new battery, they said that they would have to check if they had one in stock.

(*UNREAL*) they initially asked me to ship a battery back without knowing whether they had one in stock to ship to me.

To their credit they did ship me the new battery and it worked. The replacement is being shipped backed ( while they continue to bill me for the new battery).

Other Thoughts: I posted this information to the MSI forum and they gave me an extremely rude response then closed the thread.. I felt I needed to respond and they responded rudely again and yet closed the thread. I responded a third time and they banned me from the forum.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
We do not offer cross shipment services and exceptions can be made by speaking to a supervisor.
The credit card funding will be fully credited back once the battery is received in good condition.
