5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: SSD+HDD great combo. Fast startups, and does practically everything I ask of it. Survived 9 months in austere dusty conditions. Used it for light gaming and web/internet browsing.

Cons: Isn't going to run Star Citizen or anything, but has been a very solid laptop. Some folks have had issue with drive failures, but I have had no issues. The vid card is capable, but isn't a high-end card. Very functional.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I think this is a fantastic purchase. Having used an SSD/HDD combo I will probably never go back to not having an SSD for the OS.

1 out of 5 eggsSeverely let down by this.

Pros: Light, thin and decently powerful with a price I thought you couldn't beat for the specs, boots up amazing quick, love the dual hard drives. Relatively quiet when not under stress. If everything worked as it should this would be an amazing machine.

Cons: I purchased this laptop first in July for a deployment in August but upon receiving it the graphics card was defective and would freeze for 5 or 6 seconds at a time before catching back up on simple games like league of legends on low. I immediately returned the laptop to newegg and asked for a replacement which I was granted after they also confirmed the problem. I then received the new laptop 2 days before I shipped out and am still to this day deployed or I would have just asked for my money back on this one.

The problem I had with the original laptop still exists on this one but not as sever, every couple of minutes it will freeze for 2-3 seconds on games like xcom or any other game. On top of that when I try to bridge an internet connection the computer blue screens and shuts down within 5 seconds internet starting on pass-through. Also the built in webcam and mic do not work and there isn't even a program to run them or anything on the website to download for it so I cant even Skype my family like I was intending to with this.

On a non-broken note the only thing I don't like is the fact that the build in touch pad does not have individual buttons but instead you click a corner but more-so that if you accidentally swipe left with your palm while typing or anything it pulls to a windows 8 options screen. Very annoying when typing which may just be a windows 8 thing and not a laptop option but this is my first Windows 8 laptop.

I am sure they would have replaced it again but not having internet for the first 2 months made it impossible for me, and so I have tried to deal with MSI through their warranty program which is so difficult Its I have given up until I return to the states. They refused to help me or even troubleshoot until i register the product. Fair enough, I have tried but they require such specific picture size and format of the receipt and serial number that this step alone was difficult. However, the biggest problem is that the site will not accept the serial on my laptop so I can not receive help on the rare times I have had the ability to call back to the states and asked for it. They wouldn't even help me register the laptop over the phone and me sending the pictures via email.

All in all this is an extreme let down from what I expected from MSI. So much potential and yes I am 0/2 for this laptop and left in a difficult spot and considering changing brands next time I outfit my desktop at home which is sad since my motherboards and graphics cards have all been MSI but I don't want to take a chance of something breaking and dealing with this again.

4 out of 5 eggsLike everything except the screen

Pros: Takes 6 seconds to boot up, nice keyboard, solid bottom casing, dynaudio speakers, soundblaster sound card with line-in, 2 year warranty, no dead pixels, msi dragon logo lights up

Cons: washed out non-IPS screen (it's a cheap Chi Mei N173HGE-L11), odd placement of DC jack on right side, non-removable battery, thick plastic bezel around screen, screen is a little flimsy but it's thin, so...

Other Thoughts: I got this laptop for work because Newegg was running a good deal on it with many freebies. I don't use this for gaming, so I only ever use the intel video card (if the power button is white, it's using the intel card. If it's red, it's using the nvidia card). In this mode the fans never come on so the laptop is very cool and quiet. I don't have any issues with the trackpad. It's almost perfect except for the screen- the super matte texture makes it look too grainy and washed out. Some people replace the screen with other models so I'll eventually do that when the warranty runs out. The 15.6" MSI GS60 Ghost has a better screen (it's IPS) but I wanted the 17.3".

5 out of 5 eggsBetter Deal Than Alienware

Pros: Very, very affordable high end option with great value.
Relatively quiet under heavy load.
Beautiful, color/glow pattern configurable keyboard
Performs extremely well playing more intensive games.
Has an SSD along w/ HDD.
Plenty of memory for whatever you'd need.
Solid design.
Plenty of USB ports

Cons: No optical disk drive
Windows 8
I had a faulty part in mine that required an RMA where they replaced the part.

Other Thoughts: MSI Customer Service/RMA process was VERY quick.

My RMA request was created on 9/11, then I shipped, they processed and sent it back. I had my repaired laptop back on 9/30! They are in California and I'm in Pennsylvania so this is phenomenal speed with an in-office turn around of 1 day.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Computer.

Pros: This computer, amazing. its beautiful from whatever angle you look at it, has amazing features and can handle any game you throw at it without ease. Even when playing games on a table ( normal table ) , it has a cpu temperature measure and I peak ~60 C. However, on my bed without a cooler or anything, I hit around ~70 C. Backlit keyboard is beautiful, however some of the colors aren't as vibrant as they seem.

Cons: The top of the computer screen stands out, looks a bit awkward, takes a while to get used to. wish they wouldve placed the screen a bit higher than normal. All USB's will stick out about a 1/4th of an inch also, so be aware. The Trackpad is also very sensitive at default, so yoo should turn it down a few notches.
MSI also provides a driver CD, but this computer has NO OPTICAL DRIVE.

Other Thoughts: All in all, amazing computer. The cons are there, but the pros heavily outweigh it. It has nothing worth taking a egg off.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for Gaming but Be Informed

Pros: It will play any 2013/2014 game you throw at it at 1080p with decent-to-excellent framerate

Cool keyboard backlights

Cool fast-charger for phones via USB

thin. thinner that most regular laptops, not just gaming ones

fast as a bullet

very pleasing aesthetics

better speakers than you'd expect from a laptop

screen looks good and is very bright

nice features

minimal bloatware

Cons: Weird CTRL key problem

not really meant for gaming on your lap
non-standard keyboard key arrangement (who do they think they are, getting rid of the left Win key?)

kills 120W power supplies (the stock one included)

Other Thoughts: Definitely the most convenient and low-profile gaming laptop I've ever seen.

It smashes through games like XCOM Enemy Within at 60fps, 1080p, high settings without breaking a sweat...
except that if I put it on my lap, I'm the one who has to break a sweat. I don't blame the laptop though, since its so thin, its hard to imagine having this much power in such a small chassis without the heat output.

After reading all the bad comments about the touchpad, and before I even tried to use it, I immediately updated its driver and turned palm-sensing down to the minimum setting. If you do this, the touchpad is actually much better than your average Windows laptop touchpad. Still, its no match for the Mackbook Pro touchpad. I just don't know why no Windows laptop-maker seems to be able to match its accuracy.

Also be very careful when handling this laptop with one hand from the left/right side. I've found this to be a problem with pretty much ANY LARGE LAPTOP, but it seems particularly bad with this one since its so thin. Just make sure you grip it from the front/back if you one-hand it, not the left/right side and you'll be fine. Always carry it two-handed if you’re grabbing left/right.

My only real complaint is that the CTRL key seems to randomly get stuck... even though I didn't press it :( This appears to be a defect, but I really can't afford to be without a laptop, so I guess I'll just live with it

Finally, this laptop burned out its stock 120W power supply; I bought a third-party 120W power supply and it killed that one too; I ended up having to get a third-party 180W psu and that works fine. Even the stock 120W ran dangerously hot before it died. This "Prudent Way" brand 180W psu keeps cool even during long 3-hour gaming sessions.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: > 860m and 12GB RAM*
> Triple 1080p output
> 4 USB 3.0s (Though I bought a hub anyways)
> 45° exhaust (Exhaust isn't blowing on your hand)
> Amazingly thin and light
> Killer e2200 Ethernet
> Customizable keyboard
> i7 4710HQ 2.5 GHz**
> Brushed aluminium
> 128GB SSD (Which you can add another or replace the current)

Cons: > Does run hot when under load (It's a laptop what do you expect)***
> The keyboard does have some issues with the different types of LED modes u can have
> Trackpad is bad by default (Max out all the settings and you are good to go)
> Audio is pretty bad when load (It's a laptop, what do u expect)****
>The HDD is NOT 7200 rpm, it is in fact according to speccy, 5400 rpm.

Other Thoughts: I received this laptop as a gift from somewhere else, sadly. D:

I recommend getting a cooling stand for this laptop, to help with cooling it, a cooling stand typically will reduce the temperatures by about 0°-5° C. I have yet to have either the gpu or cpu hit 90° C, running games on high i typically find myself at 70°-82° C

* The RAM is upgradeable, but it is highly recommended that you don't seeing as you would have to pull out the motherboard, there is a dissection guide on msi's forums though.

** This somewhere else place has this exact same model and it's cpu listed as a 4700HQ 2.4 GHz, but i received it with a 4710HQ 2.5 GHz. There may be a chance that this model from newegg will have the 47010HQ 2.5 GHz.

*** You can feel warmth at the air intake area and on part of the keyboard. It is not an uncomfortable warmth. Though if you put your hands near the exhaust you will have yourself a personal heater. Which for me is nice :D

**** I typically have the audio at about 20-25 when not plugged into speakers, Around there seems to give u the best quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT LAPTOP

Pros: This laptop is everything I wanted and more. I7 processor is great, 12 gigs of ram, SSD and dual band router capabilities makes this laptop faster than fast. Not to even mention how great the graphics are. The 860m graphics can handle any game at High and Ultra on every game and still keep a solid frame rate. My favorite aspect if this laptop is the design. It looks like a high performance sports car. It's thin, light and it can pack a punch. Recommend to anyone looking for a gaming laptop. Perfect combination of ultra-book and gaming pc.

Cons: None that would change my opinion. The only thing I can think of Is weird placement of the charger port. But if that changes your mind you ate crazy.

2 out of 5 eggsOK laptop, low quality construction

Pros: The laptop seems to play most games at fairly high settings without too many hiccups. It isn't too loud and the screen is great.

Cons: Poor build quality. The keyboard is poor quality (where I usually hit the space bar on the lower right hand side doesn't register as a keystroke) and the touchpad started to function poorly (the left click function isn't smooth and the pad wobbles slightly) right after the Newegg return policy has ended. RMA shipping is apparently my responsibility (really?) and it'll take them up to a month(!) after receiving it to repair it.

Other Thoughts: I regret buying this laptop and wish I had spent my money on a different brand.
