4 out of 5 eggsIt's really good but 1 big problem

Pros: It has been a little over a month and I have some free time to review this. I'm gonna get detailed for future reference for people who may buy something similar to this.
-The 4k screen is great, it's sharp, clean, and detailed. There's a lot of room for working by having this btw
-It came with a lot of stuff (a backpack, a keyboard protector, a mouse, a mouse pad, a protective carrying case, a steel series headset, and a dog tag
- It starts up quickly and I'm on the desktop in seconds
-I really like the ssd and harddrive
- I like the gold colour, it makes me feel special because everyone either has a black labtop or a macbook, and I know there are gold macbooks. This labtop looks and feels great
-The fullsized keyboard is awesome. I like how it lights up as well, I love having cool colours on my keyboard and you can make it breathe, and wave but I keep it on the default
-I like the programs it came with because I can switch what graphic card I'm using by just a click and I can see how my computer is running, like if my computer is getting too hot which it never does unless I'm gaming
-Even when gaming it doesn't feel hot, it only gets warm
-It doesn't get loud unless I'm gaming, when I'm browsing or working on photoshop it's quiet and cool imo
-The killer network works surprisingly really well, anyone who says it's bad or doesn't work is because they upgraded or downgraded their windows ios. I accidentally deleted things that malware bytes thought was bad and my killer network didn't work. I restored and fixed it
-I really like windows 8.1, I've had windows 7 for many years and it's old and boring though I do miss the start menu, I've also heard from my research that some people have problems with windows 10 as of right now on their labtops so I didn't want to upgrade, maybe an update will fix their problems?, I also heard windows 10 has worse security. And yes I do know of those programs that can make the start menu on 8.1 but I don't use it
-The fn functions are great and I turn the track pad off sometimes like while gaming
-The track pad in general is good, I basically just hate how it's so hard to scroll
-16 gb is great but I wish I had more, I was gonna get the crimson red msi just for the bigger ssd but there were so many bad reviews on it and I missed the sale so when this went on sale a couple weeks after I got this one plus it had better reviews. All other labtops that had more ram were huge and heavy which leads me to my next point
-It's light, this is one of the major reasons why I bought it, a powerful computer that's also light, sometimes when it's in my backpack I forget its there
-the sound is really good imo, it's loud enough for me
-It came with a free game of your choice but I haven't used it since I wouldn't ever play any of those games. I'd rather fallout 4 but that's just me. I'll be giving it to a friend maybe. I can't believe its 80 bucks!
-The screen itself is nice because it's not a tn panel. The viewing

Cons: Well lets start with one that shouldn't even have been one. Like seriously. For the price we paid for this labtop it should have been flawless but that is not the case.

The display screen metal casing on the top left side of my computer was a little opened and wasn't closed. Even when I pressed to close it, it would just open up again after a couple of minutes which is such a task to constantly check if it had opened as well cause I don't want dust going into my computer and appearing on my screen. I was deeply afraid of that. I then talked to new egg about it and upgraded my warranty which still doesn't appear in my order history but I do have the invoice. They couldn't do anything about by the way. I then contacted msi and I basically wrote a paragraph about the problems that I've had and attached photos of my situation. The reply came quick but it was a joke. The guy didn't even answer all my questions and said "We can issue an RMA to have the notebook shipped to us for the warranty service, please let us know if you wish to proceed." I didn't reply after one day because I was too tired after work to even check my email. I checked the day after and it was closed. I was like where do I even have the option to reply to this person? I have yet to reply and do not even want to. Anyways, when I saw his reply I print screened it because it made me furious.

There were only 2 problems! The casing not completely closing and the colour yellow which leads me to my next point

The colour yellow. Wow. That is not yellow. It has come to the point where I just don't even use yellow in my work. I use photoshop to make my art and it's horrible. It's a mustard dirty looking yellow. I used my other screen from my other desktop computer to truly see the difference. And yes it is this 4k computer screen displays fault. I read reviews and I knew this was a problem but I thought they were over reacting and didn't believe it but it was true. I tried to fix it by changing the settings in the nvdia display settings and also in some pc setting, nothing helped and messing with the settings made my computer slower and act a bit weird so I restored and fixed that. Anyways I don't even understand why its like that or how to fix it. Some people who have reviewed this computer/4k gs60 know a lot about this problem and got into the details that I didn't even know about.

The 48hz is not really a problem for me since I mostly just work on my art and animations. But I do play some video games. I rarely play war thunder and guild wars 2 but it doesn't seem to effect it and they run great/fine and look great as well imo.

Other Thoughts: So I really like this computer and it came with so much stuff. Like the waterproof backpack, the keyboard protector, the light up keyboard, mouse, mouse pad are great. They are all made very well. The computer is almost completely metal except for the hinges, they are gold painted plastic. That doesn't bother me though. I also like how the mouse breathe lights up as well.

I should mention that I did accidentally spill some tea on my labtop one day and the keyboard protector really saved it. It wasn't even my fault though. It was the cups lids fault. YAY! I took off the keyboard protector yesterday for a little bit and the keyboard by itself looks brand new and feels great.

I don't know about that yellow though. That is my biggest problem. Seriously my biggest problem. Because I bought it before some certain date, I can still return it I believe until January 31 2016. I haven't been looking into any other computers because I seriously like this computer too much. I've never had a labtop before and it's better than my 6 year old desktop computer but that's what I was paying for. I really just wanted a computer that was light, powerful, and portable. I will try and live with the colour yellow but will send msi another message about it sometime later to see if I can try and get it fixed.

3 out of 5 eggsWanted to love it, but needed accurate yellow colors more

Pros: Beautiful gold metal case. Lightweight. Loved the multi-colored backlit keyboard. Booted really fast on the SSD drive. Very clear display. Came with great extras: backpack, protective sleeve, headphones, keyboard cover, and mouse. Dual fans kept it running cool enough so it was comfortable on my lap, unlike my previous laptop.

Cons: Unfortunately, bright yellow renders as a mustard color on the screen. I'm a web designer and need accurate color for my work. I knew about this flaw when I bought it, but everything else about the computer was so appealing that I thought I could overcome it by only doing design work when the computer was connected to my desktop monitor. Unfortunately, the 3840 x 2160 display of the laptop did not work well with the maximum 1680x1050 display of my monitor. I considered buying a new monitor to overcome the problem, but realized I didn't want the sites I work on to look so small relatively. And the mustard color annoyed me more than I anticipated it would. It broke my heart, but I ended up returning this laptop and buying a much less sleek but more practical Acer. *sigh* I would have loved to have kept it, but I guess if it had more accurate screen color I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway.

Other Thoughts: If you don't need accurate yellows for your work, this is an awesome computer.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's nice, I like

Pros: -Design: thin and light, did i mention it's Gold ?
-Gtx970m 6gb: Everything is playable in Good settings, check out youtube.
-Steel Series: Typing is a marvelous experience and LED's are pretty cool.
-Cooling system: The fans can get loud(what did you expect right?) but they work well and fast when the laptop gets to those high temps when gaming.
-Accessories: You might not know this but this package comes with the following; steel series headset, Backpack, Msi gaming mouse, Sleeve, mousepad, and a dogtag.(I use them All and they're pretty decent)
-Overall Specifications are Very nice includin the 16gbs of ram(too bas it's not 1866mhz but meh It's Not a big deal.
4k: Gorgeous, seriously.

-Hubs: everything you need

Cons: -Screen: It's 48 Hz, meaning you will cap at 48 FPS. I dont mind, but for some this is unacceptable.
-Wifi: Killer Wlan 1525 operates very poorly for me and many others. I'm buying a usb adapter. Updating drivers did not work in my case.
-

Other Thoughts: The laptop, Looks, Feels, and Runs excellently. If it weren't for the Killer Wlan i would rate this laptop, 10/10. 48 FPS Really doesn't bother me, As i see it, i get to turn on some options without sacrificing speed. All things said and done I am very Happy with my product.
8.5/10

5 out of 5 eggspretty sick laptop

Pros: Start up 3 seconds
16GB RAM
Latest i7 processor
Illustrator start up 4 Seconds
Photoshop start up 3 seconds
InDesign start up 6 Seconds (all opened one after the other while running Outlook, Acrobat Pro, Chrome, Spotify, Notepad, PowerPoint)
Nice to look at considering its a PC gaming laptop
Back lit customizable keyboard
Super light weight
Came with a keyboard cover

Cons: Windows 8 - I love Win 7 and not used to Win 8
Keyboard typeface lettering is a bit cheesy
Casing is larger than expected and same size as my old 17" laptop
The high resolution screen is almost too much - programs like Chrome look fuzzy when set on optimum max resolution so I have it set to 1080 -- have to tweak it to look crisp

Other Thoughts: I'm not really a PC gamer so I wont go on about the graphics processor and running games. I wanted a portable, stylish workhorse/ beast laptop, and that's what I got that.

I've had this a few days now and have been running about 5-6 programs at a time (including Adobe CS 6 Master collection) and it's taking everything I throw at it. I was going to buy a new Macbook Pro and run parallels on it since I need to use both Mac and PC, but decided to try this machine instead since the specs were basically the same and the price was much better.

So far I'm very pleased. I will update in a couple months to see if I'm still a happy buyer.

4 out of 5 eggssent it back. Here is why....

Pros: 1. Thin, light, sleek, cool gold color
2. 970m is fairly solid for most games
3. screen is 4k, meaning desktop looks very sharo
4. glossy screen with tons of reflections for those that like the vibrant colors that come with a glossy screen
5. really great backpack that came with the MSI bundle
6. SSDs in RAID0. Super fast access times
7. gold aluminum doesn't hold fingerprints
8. Steel Series keyboard is freaking amazing. Best keyboard on a laptop, bar none. Even better than my 2014 Macbook Pro
9. Customization of keyboard colors
10. Fast processor

Cons: 1. The screen. Oh, the screen. I would have kept this laptop if the screen was the previous 3k screen. The 4k screen they use is a Samsung panel which only does 48hz refresh. So all your games will look laggy, and some screen tearing is apparent in some games prob from drivers. One other note I haven't seen any other reviewer mention, the screen brightness (according to some various websites tests/benches) is only 220-240 nits. So, the screen is not nearly as bright as most screens out there. Looks dark in some games. In contrast, the 3k panel MSI used before this had good brightness (350 nits), and could do 60hz. I guess MSI went the way of marketing 4k and a much worse screen than the 3k IGZO panel the previous MSI GS60 3k did. 3k is plenty (retina quality) for a 15 inch laptop. WHHHYYYY MSI???
2. gets loud when gaming, but that's the trade off with thin and light
3. not quite Apple build quality

Other Thoughts: So there you have it. This is a really great laptop if it wasn't for the 4k panel that ruins it. I wanted ultra-HD for destop, movie and pitcture viewing, so decided to give this a try. I dont mind downscaling the resolution for games to have a UHD screen, but the brightness and refresh rate of this 4k panel sucks the life out of everything. I am considering buying the hard to find 3k version for the screen upgrade. 48hz is unacceptable for gaming, period.

3 out of 5 eggsMSI GS Series GS60 Ghost Pro 4K-078 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 6 GB GDDR5 15.6" 4K Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Fast Processor (mine was i7 4720HQ not 4710HQ) and Video card. Great performance.
128GB x2 SSDs in Raid 0. 7 seconds to boot up.
Steelseries Keyboard looks amazing.
Sound is the best I've heard from a notebook.
Packaging and free stuff it came with saved me money.

Cons: Found out that the screen caps out at 48hz which means that the FPS cap out at 48 frames. This is completely ridiculous for a gaming notebook.
Some games are not compatible with the 4k resolution which I knew, but still very annoying.
This is not a true 4k resolution screen, it is slightly better than the average 1980 x 1080 screen.
Nvidia GTX 970m wasn't a 980m.

Other Thoughts: Overall I really liked this laptop and wanted to keep it, but the screen resolution and FPS cap really made me upset.
I wish somewhere in the specs it told me that the screen was only a 48hz. I didn't think MSI would put such a screen on a nice laptop like this.

If you don't mind your games FPS capping out at 48 frames this is the one to get.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Gold color is nice, not overstated
Games run well at high settings
Full size Keyboard (see cons for compromises they made to do this)
Its nearly as thin as my yoga 13, and light

Cons: Keyboard layout - putting the windows key in an odd location was unnecessary. They could have made left ctrl a bit smaller and put the window key there, or swapped the fn/windows keys.

Having fn for common keys like home/end is a little silly. I'm sure i'll get used to it, but as a programmer those keys are really important. I can't necessarily fault them for this because I don't really see any better place to put them, but keys like "prt scr", "scroll lock", and "pause/break" haven't been used since like 1994. They probably could have made those fn keys instead. I don't think anyone would scream about having to press fn to scroll lock.

There's an extra |/ key next to the spacebar? What would i need two of those for?

Other Thoughts: Even with the keyboard complaints, I can't recommend against this laptop. The build quality is good, its thin, light, and runs games well. What more could you want? If you're on the fence, buy it. You won't be disappointed.
