5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

This review is from: MSI GE Series GE72 Apache-027 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: -great weight (<6 lbs) for its size.
-bright screen
-runs games @~60 fps on medium settings
-stays fairly cool while gaming for a laptop.

Cons: -hard drive feel sluggish at times
-warranty sticker covers a screw hole so you will void your warranty if you want to replace any hardware

Other Thoughts: the only complaint I have about this laptop would be the hdd. maybe it is because my last two laptops had ssd in them and this only has a hdd, but at times this laptop seems to really slow down. never for very long, but long enough to notice.

would recommend this product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, worth the money

This review is from: MSI GE Series GE72 Apache-027 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: -This laptop is light while still feeling substantial. It is also very thin.
-I really like the design and feel of the laptop. The palm rest has a nice, cool feel to it while gaming. Also, the backlit keyboard looks very cool.
-The fan is not very loud.
-The IPS screen looks great.
-The keyboard has a good amount of travel. I chose this keyboard because other thin laptops I tried had really short travel.
-Runs all programs/games very well. I have Windows 10 running on it.
-Overall, everything is running exactly the way it should. The lack of issues is a big pro.

Cons: -The speakers are loud, but bass is lacking even though there is a subwoofer.
-Opening the laptop voids the warranty. However, I have read that MSI allows the installation of RAM and HD, but I am not sure if it is true.

Other Thoughts: As of July/August 2015, there aren't many laptops that can compete at this price point.

1 out of 5 eggsalmost unusuable

This review is from: MSI GE Series GE72 Apache-027 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: quiet and lighter than my 1 year old dell

Cons: screen is very dark, almost to the point of being unplayable in WOW, as well as just dark in all apps. I walked into my mine in my WOW garrison and couldn't see hardly anything in half the mine, hardly can see anything in undercity. I have adjusted the screen resolution, screen brightness, switched it to 'game' mode, adjusted the power settings, and downloaded the latest nvidia driver thinking that may be it - I am playing while plugged in and have adjusted the power settings to keep the screen at 100% brightness while unplugged. The screen is currently at the brightest option. I purchased this because my 1 year old Dell got so hot while playing and given the difference in the screen brightness, I may be shipping this back and going back to my Dell, or just ordering a new Dell. I just contacted customer support but if anyone has any ideas, please send them my way.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming laptop with some noise and keyboard issue

This review is from: MSI GE Series GE72 Apache-027 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: 1). Newegg is super in doing bussiness. Very easy and responsive to communicate for any questions
2). This MSI GE72 2QE gaming laptop is stylish, light weight (compare to gaming laptops), and super fast
3). With 3 M.2 SSD slots for future upgrade
4). Excellent anti-flare screen.
5). Computer bootup really fast even with HDD

Cons: 1). The most concern is the FAN NOISE. The default setting won't allow you to change fan speed. It will continuously run at least 3000rpm even when CPU is quite cool.
2). The Keyboard has two issue: the "space" key is NOT responsive. In many cases, you thought you click the the space key already, but no response; another problem is the "WIN" key is located on the right side, however, looks like Fn key and WIN key are switched, every wield
3). CANNOT open case to install SSD hard drive! If you do it, you will void your warranty. This is another thing wield.

Other Thoughts: For the fan speed control issue, I eventually find one program that works to control both CPU and GPU speed. The software is called "Silent Option" which I think is developed by MSI. Now if I am not gaming, the computer is quiet. The internal HDD still make some noise but it is acceptable. I wish MSI allow me to open case and install SSD so that I will have a silent system for office use, and a powerful system for gaming when I needed.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Quality

This review is from: MSI GE Series GE72 Apache-027 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great Specs, looks really cool

Cons: I had two, both were return-mailed within 24 hours. Both had screen issues, the first had a yellow-colored area about 2 X 2 CM, and the second had several dead pixels on the bottom right area. As well, both adaptors looked cheap and poorly built, and there was a strange grinding rattle from the processor area. Also, the DVD tray feels incredibly cheap and poorly built.

Other Thoughts: Bought one of these from the Microsoft store, not newegg. Specs are great, and the laptop looked good otherwise, but these issues are just too disheartening for me to want another one. I feel like this is a laptop that will develop all kinds of issues in a few years.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer, but 8.1 is terrible

This review is from: MSI GE Series GE72 Apache-027 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: So far this laptop has worked as expected. I am upgrading my laptop from a Samsung R780, which was considered mid-spec in 2010. My old laptop had 4GB of RAM and the GeForce 330M, which are hilariously out of date now. My laptop boots within 10 seconds, which is amazing considering I would normally wait over 200 seconds for my Samsung.

Cons: The major drawback to this beast is that is equipped with Windows 8.1. This is my first experience with the new OS as I previously had Windows 7. It has not been going well. The laptop came with an older version of the OS, so I had to download approximately 100 updates since I received it. This isn't really a complaint, but I would have appreciated a more up-to-date version out of the box (it took about 3 hours to get these installed).

As for the real issues, I have been having usually high CPU and disk reads when idling, to the point where my fan will be at full speed for extended periods of time (which is completely unacceptable for a computer of this caliber) . Both are reported problems with Windows 8.1, such as "Service Host Local System" and "Windows Modular Installer Worker." I was flabbergasted that these problems have been reported since 2013 and still haven't been properly sorted out. I may be a minority, but I would rate 8.X as the worst OS experience I have ever had. I can look past the terrible UI design and the removal of the start button, but I can't ignore the terrible new features 8.1 has in terms of performance of my system. I would even take Vista over this junk software.

Other Thoughts: Final thoughts: the computer hardware is top notch, but Windows 8.1 has really hurt my user experience and trust in Microsoft in general.
