4 out of 5 eggsLove this laptop!!

Pros: Weight and size - 13.58" x 9.65" x 0.87" 3.75 lbs Awesome!!
Play pretty much everything on high or ultra
Stays much cooler than other gaming laptops I've tried/owned.

Cons: Speakers are pretty much useless - gotta go with headphones or external speakers (I do anyway so no biggie for me)
Battery Life - I get about an hour on battery playing games. 90 mins if I'm using the on board graphics card. (Pretty much all the other I've tried are similar - gigbit, razer, aorus)

Other Thoughts: I would give 5 stars instead of 4 if:
Better Battery
Better sound (I honestly dont care that much)

RMA issued for the following:
My screen has a purple swath on a small part of the screen when it should show black.
My tab key sticks from time to time.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost a good thing.

Pros: Fast, Light, Keyboard, AutoCAD Capable, Photo & Video Editing No Problem.

Cons: Speakers Tiny No Treble Hard to Hear Voices or Any Sounds, NOISE From Fans, No Control of Fan Speed, There Must Be Better Whisper Quiet Fans With Good Flow.

Other Thoughts: I would wait for upgrades to speakers and fans.

4 out of 5 eggsLaptop is great

Pros: All modern, nice screen, keyboard, touchpad...

Cons: Cannot understand how 1600$ laptop can have speaker worse than cheapest cell phone. Too silent and terrible mid-range frequency reproduction

Other Thoughts: Although Newegg says you will get a free game with purchase, they will charge you for the game, but deduct it from the price of laptop. So where is the catch. Laptop is returnable but game is not. So you will pay 1600$ and max returnable even in a case of not opened box will be 1530$
This is my 3rd try to submit the review

4 out of 5 eggsGood hardware. Software seems to need a little work.

Pros: The hardware for this laptop seems very good:

Screen - excellent! bright, high contrast, low glare matte finish
Keyboard - nice solid feel, good key travel, doesn't feel "cheap"
Trackpad - very good, smooth sensitive operation - I'm glad that MSI ditched the rough "textured" surface they had on some of their other trackpads
CPU / GPU - What can I say? Very fast. Would have been nice to have a 6GB VRAM option, but 3GB will do for the forseeable future
Cooling - Seems adequate, and I haven't seen much throttling even under high load. As others have mentioned, when the system is idle, the fans occasionally "pulse" to a high RPM speed. It's not that noisy, but in a quite room, can be a little annoying. I'd rather have continuous fan operation at a lower RPM instead this on/off "pulsing". (MSI, if you read these, is it possible to tune the EC firmware to give this option?)
Chassis / Build quality - Ok, so it's not a unibody Mac, but it's actually not bad. The chassis seems to be built of metal, instead of plastic. The lower half (with the keyboard) seems very solid. The part with the screen seems a little flimsy, but not so much I'm worried about longevity. I think that's just the tradeoff that's made for a thin and light notebook.
Software - Apart from Norton anti-virus, very little bloatware installed on the system (Thanks MSI for keeping these systems clean)

Cons: The biggest problem with this notebook seems to be the stability of the "out of the box" OS / driver package. I had problems with the Intel GPU driver crashing (several times per hour), "blue screen of death (BSOD)" when waking up from sleep, BSOD when playing certain games, and other crashes.

I think I have now fixed this problem (see "Other" section below for more info).

Other Thoughts: I've been experiencing serious stability / BSOD problems with the "out of the box" OS install. Yesterday, I finally decided to bite the bullet and do a clean install of Windows 10 to see if that would fix the problem. I wiped the OS, and installed the latest Win 10 image from the Microsoft website. I did not reinstall any of the drivers pr utility software from the MSI support pagel. After the clean install, everything looked good, but upon waking from sleep, the display would be corrupted (looked like "white noise" from an old TV) and the system needed to be rebooted. I then decided to try upgrading the display drivers beyond what was provided by Windows update. I installed the Intel 154014.4352 display driver, and the Nvidia 361.43 display driver. That fixed the corrupted display after sleep issue, but I was getting BSOD's with a kernel_security_check_failure when using the Nvidia GPU. Finally, I downgraded the Nvidia driver to version 359.06, and the BSOD's went away.

After the clean install, and playing around with driver versions, I do finally appear to have a stable system. I haven't had a single BSOD or display driver crash since then. I'm crossing my fingers that this has fixed the problem.

One more thing worth noting: I installed Linux on this PC (I use it for work). The hardware is this notebook works well with Linux, but you'll need a 4.2 kernel or newer for full hardware support. I had no problems running Ubuntu 15.10, but the latest version of Linux Mint wouldn't work as it uses the 3.19 kernel.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome 14" Gaming Laptop

Pros: Great Price, Perfect computer for all my Gaming hobby. The GTX 970M is no joke, a great gaming card for the budget. I'm able to play most of my games on "HIGH" settings with no issues. Just the way it handles gaming, I can see having no problem with AutoCAD and Photoshop work on it. Small surface area lets me do work on my lap, small desk and a TV tray. Keyboard fits my hands (5'7") and the lightweight is not as bad for a windows computer.

Cons: the fan is loud playing games on "all' video settings be it High or factory game settings. Norton's is a pain, keeps giving me a notification. It's free but I uninstalled it right away and had my prefer Anti-Virus installed. Plastic body easily leaves finger print marks.

Other Thoughts: I so wanted a Razar 14" Blade but I just can't understand the price for one. This a great compromise that I am happy with. Just as light if not lighter, Powerful as its older bothers GS60 Ghost, and GS 70 Stealth. Get one!

4 out of 5 eggsGood performance but not a perfect laptop

Pros: Lightweight, at less than 4 pounds it's more than a half pound lighter than the Razer Blade HD (the computer I was also researching).

Great price for performance. The MSI is at least as fast as any of the razer blades but costs less. I have no problem running Fallout4, Metro: Last Light and GTAV at max or close to max settings at 1080p with minimal frame rate issues. Thanks to the 128gb SSD the computer boots in 5-10 seconds.

Minimal bloatware... it comes with Norton antivirus which is one of the more annoying antivirus programs but it's free for the first year so I'll keep it for now. There are also a few MSI performance management programs but they have their uses.

For a small gaming laptop it actually doesn't get all that hot, sure it gets pretty warm but not uncomfortable.

Cons: The computer feels cheap especially for the price. I've been using Macbooks for the last few years and this is nowhere near as good when it come to materials.

The fans aren't obnoxiously loud but tend to kick in often even when all I'm doing is browsing the internet.

The speakers aren't loud enough, they are only barely audible over the fans. Even when the fans aren't running the speakers aren't loud enough to fill a room and are only decent sounding.

The power brick is HUGE and weighs probably half what the laptop weighs.

Battery life is pretty bad even with the Skylake CPU, after a full charge the battery claims to only get 2 - 2.5hours at 30% screen brightness.

The second hard drive is slow, I suppose it's enough for general data or movies but it's too slow for gaming. If I decide to keep the laptop I'll probably crack it open and replace the second hard drive with an SSD.

Other Thoughts: For my first venture into Windows laptops I'm a little disappointed with the build quality and materials on $1700 premium gaming laptop. I'm on the fence about keeping it and I'm a little worried about longevity. I've had my Macbook Pro for 8 years and it's still kicking.
