1 out of 5 eggsYou Get What You Pay For

Pros: Thought this computer was a steal but...

Cons: I get thermal shutdown all the time, and overall it is extremely cheap plastic piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: Back when I was looking at this laptop, I was debating between this or a first-retail-gen Chromebook for $200 more. I wish I would have gone with the Chromebook...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop For the Price

Pros: Cheap, durable, reliable

Cons: Sometimes slow to start up, might not be good for a gamer

Other Thoughts: I've had this laptop for almost 2 years and I am very happy with it. I got it on sale for $370 in spring of 2011 and I've gotten more than my money's worth. I have NEVER had a single issue, including thermal shutdown, either. Maybe since mine is relatively old I somehow avoided that problem, but I also take good care of it (don't transport it often, always shut it down when I'm not using it, etc). I don't use it for much besides internet, word processing, etc, so I can't speak for gaming capabilities.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Purchase!

Pros: It has a nice design and the speed is great - but those cannot compensate for the MAJOR issue of Thermal Shutdown.

Cons: Thermal Shutdown all the time - even if only on for 1 min. sometimes.

Other Thoughts: I cannot believe that HP did not do a recall on this model, the thermal shutdown occurs so intermittantly that you are afraid to use it for anything other than web browsing because you will lose all your information. It could go days without an issue or happen several times within one hour.

3 out of 5 eggsmaybe a solution

Pros: I like everything about the computer except the thermal shutdowns.

Cons: Here's my story. Same symptoms, screen corruption, shutdown, thermal error message.

Called HP support. Rep advised me to power down the computer, unplug the cord from the a/c charger, remove the battery.

He then told me to hold down the power button for 40 seconds. After this, he instructed me to plug in the a/c charger, power up the computer and repeatedly hit the f10 button (requires holding down the fn key).

I asked the rep what these procedures were supposed to accomplish. He indicated that the laptop can have "internal static buildup" and that these steps should eliminate the static.

Bottom line -- my computer has been working flawlessly for three days now. I used to have at least one shutdown a day, more often two or more. Hope this helps.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy HP

Pros: Price

Cons: This laptop developed a display problem followed by a thermal overheat message within 1st day of use. After hours of going back and fourth with HP on several different calls, HP finally agreed with us that the laptop needed a motherboard. After I shipped it to HP, they called to ask me if I wanted to fix all the physical damage to the laptop ($550). They told me there was no damage at all to the package and insinuated that I packed it damaged. I use the same box specifically designed to ship laptops everyday and NEVER had a problem. The high level manager HP gave me to deal with was rude, spoke bad English and basically accused me of shipping them a damaged machine. They said it was not damaged during shipping. I got the laptop back unimpaired and it was obvious it was dropped very hard on one corner while out of the box. Someone there had to drop it and not fess up. I had to eat the total cost of the laptop and give my customer a new one. That was my last HP computer purchase.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea how HP is still in business. This is not the first outrageous experience I've had with HP.

Pros: Pretty

Cons: Computer shuts down due to overheating and the most inopportune times. Tried setting it on a cooling fan but it doesn't help.

1 out of 5 eggsThermal Issue

Pros: It's a laptop.

Cons: I purchase 20 of these and now i am getting thermal issues on all of them!
I call HP and they are no help, now i have no choice but to throw them all in the Trash what a waste of money!

Other Thoughts: Stay Away!

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless!

Pros: None - abolutely none.

Cons: Cannot run 15 minutes without program failures.

Other Thoughts: Bought this PC as a good $300 replacement for my daily use - surfing, editing, videos, etc. It has decent credentials and I have not observed the heat related issues that MANY reviews note. I thought I would be lucky... but not so! This unit performs extremely bad under any circumstance. Several other laptops and a MAC Pro work fine on my network, but this one does not. Both Firefox and IE (with several service patches installed) cannot open more than a few tabs. Youtube cannot play reliably, volume is erratic, the stupid transparancy of Windows 7 will show background under a stable window, the CTL-C/CTL-V for cut and paste will frequently NOT work. It does not crash (big deal), but the programs will just degrade over minutes to an hour until a reboot is required. DO NOT BUY THIS PC.... EVEN FOR YOUR MOST VILE HATED ENEMY!!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it!

Pros: Price, and features. Newegg is the best (thank you for helping me out of HP's mistake)!!!

Cons: Been in tech support for 13 years, and this laptop was the worse I've ever owned. I bought the first one, returned it and asked for my money back due to thermal shutdown issues (knowing it's a design issue after reseating the CPU and everything). I just returned the 2nd one and newegg finally agreed to give me an in store credit for it.

Other Thoughts: HP has announced it may be selling it's PC and laptop business. I hope the company they sell it to knows more about the product than HP! HP also made a series of bad DVD burners back in the day when they first came out... and they would coaster everything. This is the 2nd product I've purchased from them that has been defective due to design (through multiple changing of CEOs, etc.). There won't be a third, they lost me for good! Their model is all messed up! My friend has an older laptop and it does the same thermal shutdown error (he warned me after purchasing it... I didn't tell him until after). So this is a problem that they know about and has been going on for some time.
