2 out of 5 eggsBeautiful with big flaw

Pros: Absolutely beautiful! My fiancee was a long time mac user and I finally convinced her to buy a PC, it had to be beautiful and HP did a great job with this product. It is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye both with the metal case and the LCD screen. Runs well and a lot of bang under the hood.

Cons: Runs HOT!!! Insanely hot especially in the bottom left corner of the PC. The heat was acceptable however the PC's wireless card and motherboard have serious problems. HP says this is a know problem but has yet to find a fix. Basically during large downloads the PC freezes up and the only solution is a hard restart. Very annoying! I have tried several changes to the wireless setting to alleviate the problem but is still continues.

Other Thoughts: It will be hard to get my Fiancee to buy another PC after this debacle. I am a desktop guy and build my own so hopefully next time she just lets me build one for her so that I can avoid any hardware issues.

5 out of 5 eggsHP

Pros: HP dosen't make a better laptop right now, than the Envy 17". And there is no other company I would purchase a PC from. I have had many dealings with HP in the past and they have always taken excellent care of me. In fact, I have never received better customer service in my life!

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsI like the Envy 17

Pros: - Packaging presentation was very nice with the black shiny ENVY-labeled box. Laptop was in a nice black velvet sleeve (black color) and in box securely and had no damage (yes, I know this is not really related to the laptop, but I was impressed with how they packed it up)
- The LED display has a glossy covering over the main display to keep it safe and clean for future use
- HP Beats audio is very nice. I enjoy listening to music more now with how Beats sounds...Very impressive
- Laptop build itself is nice and secure and has as solid feel
- Back-lit keyboard is nice when working in an area with minimal lighting
- HDMI and mini-DisplayPort are nice features for external monitor use (also AMD Eyefinity)
- Mobile Radeon HD 6850 is very nice and blu-ray viewing is crisp
- Tested some games like F.3.A.R. (FEAR 3), CoD: Black Ops, etc and they run pretty good, but I have a custom-built desktop for heavy gaming though

Cons: - The bottom left-hand part of the laptop can get warm as I believe that is where the mobile graphics card sits with just the ONE left side air vent...I wish they would've had either a bottom or back vent as well for more airflow. I have my back corners propped up to keep it from warming up any further (cooling pad may help it)
- Wish there were more USB 2.0 ports as the third is shared with the eSATA port. Too bad some were not on the back part of the laptop, but I know universal designs now have everything on the sides

Other Thoughts: This laptop replaced a very old Alienware m9750 laptop so this was a huge upgrade. I have read a lot of reviews on this particular Envy about it heating up and with my experience thus far it has not been an issue with me. Yes, it does warm up and can be somewhat noisy with the fan, but I turned off the FAN ALWAYS ON option in the BIOS...Now it's not bad at all (others may have different opinions).

Would I recommend this model Envy to someone else? Yeah, I think I would if it is up to par with that person's needs.

5 out of 5 eggsHP Envy 17-2070NR

Pros: Big real-estate for the screen, very sharp. Game looks great, plays quick. Very happy with my purchase. Looking forward to playing Crysis 2 on this laptop.

Cons: A bit heavy but hey it's a 17" that can play games.

Other Thoughts: This has 2 graphic cards. Intel graphic card for when it's not plug in it will use this card to save energy. Then there is the Radeon HD 6850M, which kicks in when the laptop is plugged in. I didn't know when the laptop was unplugged I checked my graphic card and it only showed Intel graphic card. I though HP made a mistake and shipped me the wrong specs. But when plugged in, it was there.
