4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice for the money

Pros: Pretty decent specs for the money. Not many quad cores in this range. Very little crapware. Board and memory easily accessible from panels on bottom. Four (Count 'em, four!!) USB ports. Most other laptops I looked at in this range swapped one for an HDMI port. This one has 4 USB and an HDMI too.

Cons: Not a big deal these days but no USB 3 port may be a problem down the road. Generally solid construction but the battery connection and access panels on the bottom feel flimsy and take some fiddling to get right.

The usual compatibility problems (replaced an XP machine): No drivers for the old Canon printer (had to download from Canon and install). Old photo program (Firehand Ember) won't work (although it works on my other WIN7 machine).

Constant whining from the bundled "free trial" Norton AV to the point that I just uninstalled it. Too much free good stuff out there to put up with that resource hog.

Other Thoughts: This was a replacement for the wife's XP laptop (a Lenovo) that died, as usual, at the worst possible time. Didn't have time to wait for shipping so bought locally (cheaper at NewEgg if you have the time). First experience with WIN7 for her and much weeping and gnashing of teeth about learning the new system...mostly in the line of "Where the (bleep) did they hide the...??" Or "Why won't my Corel work?" She's not crazy about the keyboard compared to the Lenovo. Mostly a matter of getting used to it, I think.

5 out of 5 eggsReally

Pros: One outstanding feature that most people do not know about is American based Tech. Support for a lot of HP/Compaq Notebooks.

Cons: None....I have a similar HP; I also posted because of the earlier posting.

Other Thoughts: Notebooks no matter what the brand overheat if you use them on your lap or bedspread. If you do not use them on a hard flat surface then invest in chill pad Newegg has them. You can also go into bios and set the fan to always on. NB manufacturers and retailers should do more to educate people about this.

5 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby

Pros: Excellent size, great shape. stays cool through intense WoW (world of warcraft) gaming and gaming in general, decent GPU, not the greatest but good for the price.

Cons: None really. the other guy is an idiot. i have no issue with overheating it's a great laptop and stays cool when i need it to.

5 out of 5 eggsOther review is bogus, please ignore it.

Pros: I own the same basic machine but with a higher rated CPU (A8) and a discrete GPU (6750) and these machines run VERY cool and have had very few problems with heat.

Cons: Mouth breathers like the other reviewer think that old Pavilions and new Pavilions are the same machine. they're not. HP has put a lot of effort into keeping these newer machines cool and it's worked.

Other Thoughts: If you don't need a GPU for gaming, this is a decent machine, but the low res screen is just so so in quality. I'm no HP fanboy, in fact I pretty much dislike the new HP since the Carly Fiorina days when she gutted the company. But this laptop is ok.

1 out of 5 eggsThese have serious overheating problems

Pros: Decent CPU, decent GPU, decent hardware in general.

Cons: The HP Pavilion DV# series have a notorious reputation for dying due to overheating after a few months of use.
Don't believe me? Google it, you will find almost everybody will say the same thing.

I just want to share these pros & cons so other people know what I know before buying this.
