1 out of 5 eggsPoor refurbished quality

4 out of 5 eggsWORKS WITH EFFORT

Pros: Worked when received. Small and light. Runs Win 7Pro

Cons: Not really refurbished. Given a basic load with generic drivers. Would not boot to USB anything. Screen brightness F9/F10 would not work. Flashed the BIOS with version .20 and all that worked.

Other Thoughts: A must: Flash the BIOS. Get BIOS from HP Support. Lots of drivers and documentation available on the support site.

Summary: For the price and a little effort, it is a nice tablet.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Pen in the hole

Pros: At my door step in two days.

Cons: Surface was tacky. Hinge and latch with significant wear made opening lid difficult. Could live with that though. It is a tablet. But pen missing. Poor quality control of this refurbish

Other Thoughts: not sure I would ever do another refurb again. Waiting to see what I get as a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely perfect!

Pros: -Price to performance is the best of the refurbished models available as of this review

- 2 GB makes Win 7 usable, though don't expect to run too much at the same time. Do NOT get a tablet PC with only 1 GB of ram running anything higher than XP. Vista, 7, and 8 will not work with <2 GB of ram, or if they do it will be stinted and awful.

- Has a RAM expansion slot free. I'm upgrading the ram for around 30 dollars to have 4 GB, that is, I will have 2 x 2GB sticks.

-Relatively large storage space

-Pen is accurate, screen does not get smudged easily, and the screen is not capacative (finger touch sensitive), so I never move the mouse inadvertently by resting my palm on it. May be a con for some, but is perfect for me.

-Light weight (~3.5 or so lbs), but still feels sturdy, that is, I feel like I could drop it and it wouldn't break, though I have no intention of testing!

-THE BATTERY. The battery. 6 cell = about 5 hrs. It is awesome. Once I replace the HDD with an SSD, should go up.

-Love all the extra features, that is, a dedicated button to rotate the screen, a nightlight (have no idea what I'd use it for, but is cool nonetheless), a button for ctrl+alt+delete pressed by the pen nib (other buttons have an indentation for the nib), and a track point!

Cons: -As was mentioned in a prior review, touch is slightly inaccurate at the edges of the screen, though it is possible to click the very edge. Takes a little getting used to, but doesn't affect performance, -0 eggs.

-Installed hard drive is a little slow, but not too noticeable. I'm replacing it with an SSD. For reference, it is a 1.8", microsata form factor. It took me forever to find what kind of drive it had, so for reference, it is a "Samsung SpinPoint N3C HS12VJF 120GB Micro-SATA 5400RPM 16MB 1.8" Ultra Mobile Hard Drive"
Works well enough, -0 eggs.

-Not a capacative touchscreen (finger sensitive). I personally think this is a pro, but I'm listing it here for reference. +1 Eggs for me! (We're well over 5 at this point).

-Is a teensy bit annoying to have to unclip from locked position. This is unrelated to performance. -0 Eggs.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for taking notes in Physics classes, and I may try to learn how to draw with it. I type faster than I write, but physics has lots of crazy symbols that take forever to find in word. So I type when I can and write otherwise! Also more convenient than carrying around a bunch of notebooks.

If you are considering a low-cost tablet PC, and you don't mind the logo being a little scratched, refurbished is the way to go! This is the best model available IMHO, as of 2/12/2013.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: For a refurbished laptop, it's in pretty good shape. All the buttons work on it. The screen hinge is still in good shape and the screen doesn't wobble.

Cons: The only downside is the digitizer pen input on the screen isn't accurate around the corners. In other words I couldn't get the cursor into the corner of the screen while using the pen. Calibrating it did not help. That's why the laptop got a four star rating.

As an extra note, do not install Windows 8 on this tablet if you cannot reach the corners of the screen with the digitizer pen. Or you will have to use the keyboard to get to the different menus in Windows 8 since the cursor cannot reach the hot corners in the screen. In return you will be forced to prop open the screen and use the keyboard. Thereby defeating the awesome Windows 8 tablet interface. :(

Other Thoughts: I got this laptop to serve one main purpose. Taking notes. After realizing Windows 8 was unusable when the laptop was in 'tablet-mode' I reverted to Windows 7 and set up a dual boot with Linux Mint 14 (works perfectly on the tablet).

The note taking application I'm using is Xournal. It worked without any issues on linux. But for Windows 7 I needed to disable the Tablet PC Service since it was interfering with Xournal (it was trying to detect double-taps when I was writing on the screen). If you plan on using Journal (Microsoft's note taking app) you do not need to disable the Tablet PC services.

The laptop doesn't come with the Wacom drivers installed. I installed the Tablet PC drivers (it was an option in their list) for Windows 7. These were needed so that Xournal can make use of the pen's pressure sensitivity.

Random thought: This laptop has a lot of buttons. I spent 10 minutes trying to turn on the WiFi in Windows. I felt silly once I found out there was a button on the side that needed to be pushed.

Random though 2: Get comfortable with the buttons on the screen. They are quite useful when you are in tablet-mode.
