1 out of 5 eggsFailed.

Pros: Nice laptop.

Cons: LCD screen died 2 days after it arrived. Shows a jittery green display with lines flickering up and down the screen during bootup, then goes blank. Contacted Newegg for a replacement. They sent me to the manufacturer (HP). HP said the warranty had expired a year ago. Contacted Newegg again. They said they wouldn't replace it unless I sent the original shipping box, which I don't have. They are contacting HP to try to put it off on them again, but no answer so far.

Other Thoughts: The laptop came wrapped in bubble wrap and packed in air packs in a generic cardboard box. The only plausible reason I see to insist on the original box is as an excuse to weasel out of making good on a deal gone bad. I have always regarded Newegg well for their willingness to make things right when things go wrong. So far, this time they have let me down.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent deal; required a little effort

Pros: Great notebook especially for the price. I new notebook with a 17" screen and nine-cell battery etc. would cost $$$. Computer is fast and - pay attention - for less than $20 YOU CAN ORDER A COMPLETE SET OF RESTORE DVDS FROM HP. That's right - everyone who badmouths HP refurbished products because they don't come with system DVDs etc. never went on HP's Web site where it's so simple to order and pay for a complete HP set of system DVDs for your notebook you'll die laughing. I've ordered two sets of disks so far for two recertified HP laptops purchased from Newegg. Each time the DVDs arrived in less than a week.

Cons: Ok, listen to this: I don't know what Goofus installed the software on this computer before it was shipped but they did a terrible job - and I'm being nice when I say that. Although Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit was loaded that was pretty much it - no drivers for ANYTHING including video, audio, wireless and wired networking, memory card reader, etc. Plus, for some reason, the computer showed it only had 2GB of memory. PLUS every time I started the computer I got a warning that the power supply did not have enough juice to use the notebook to its full capacity - and said I should buy a new one!!! Also, I think there are two video chips on the motherboard and I kept getting a pop up when the Windows desktop arrived that said no ATI graphics chip could be found. In other words, things were really messed up. At first I dl all the drivers from the HP Web site; this fixed most of the problems. Most. But not the one that said the ATI video chip, among other things. (see 'other thoughts')

Other Thoughts: For anyone who has ever built or fixed computers you know you sometimes get to the point where you have to throw away the handbook and just figure things out yourself. And that's what happened here. I got so fed after spending HOURS day after day trying to configure this notebook that I eventually wiped the HD completely and reinstalled Windows 7 from a DVD I purchased from MS. After that, I dl and installed the drivers from the HP Web site. Still, I was concerned about the ATI video card being recognized so, when it came time to install the ATI drivers I selected "custom" and then chose only what was necessary to get the system to install the video drivers. I can't remember which items I didn't check; it was a "seat of the pants" moment. Anyway, it worked perfectly as did everything else at this point. No messages RE: a weak power supply. Suddenly there were 4GB of RAM, not 2. Go figure. (I did do a BIOS update so maybe.) DON'T FORGET TO ORDER THE RESTORE DISCS FROM HP.

5 out of 5 eggsOut standing value

Pros: I am very happy with this laptop. I bought it as a desk top replacement. The unit was spotless when it arrived. Free of any defects or finger prints. It is fast, and easily plays 4 video stream at the same time over the wireless network. I don't usually play games, but I did test some of my older games, and they played with out any problems.

Cons: The operating was not installed, and the C: drive was not formated. I had to use the factory restore untility to install Windows 7. There were no instructions on how to do this, so I had to figure it out on my own.
It also the box it came in was only just barely enough to keep if from being damaged in shipping. While my unit was okay, one conner of the box was crushed durring shipping.
The HP warranty had already been activated on July/2010. so the unit had been somewere for over a year.

Other Thoughts: This is a good value for the money, if you don't mind not having the bleeding edge processor.
