Pros: nice features. keyboard+10 digit. upgradeable, quiet and cool. for the average user, it is great right out of the box. usb 3.0, lightscribe and HDMI.

Cons: screen is native 1366x768. awkward, and not the brightest, but not horrible. no Ivy Bridge compat, so CPU upgrades are limited to Sandy Bridge - M. i3 is ok for average browsing, office and media, but could use a i5 to remove sluggish or laggy behavior. the web-cam is not the best, and most of the HP software is orientated to a corporate IT structure, and not useful to me. facial recognition was laughable, but my kids liked playing with it...

Other Thoughts: received as a gift. i formatted and reinstalled a clean bloatware free Win7 x64 home Premium (as per the Key given on the unit, would have preferred Pro but it was a gift), rather than clean the factory install. I upgraded the CPU to i7-2670QM from the original i3-2330M, and added more RAM to take it to 8gb DDR3-1333. the listed RAM max of 8gb is due to the CPU (check the CPU you are looking to upgrade to for the max supported). the i7-2670QM upgrade allowed me to install 16gb (borrowed to test- Crucial 2x8gb kit 1333), but I have no need, and 8gb is sufficient for my needs on a laptop. i really wish i could have upgraded to an Ivy Bridge to gain HD4000 graphics. the HD3000 is adequate, but gaming is limited. this was increased with the i7, but could be better. my seagate 500gb failed, and was not under warranty any longer with hp, and Seagate told me they do not offer warranty as the drive was a component in a system. dissappointing as it is insulting, but my complaints fell on deaf ears. my battery life has not significantly changed since upgrading to the i7, but performance is where i want so the small loss in battery time is acceptable to me.

Cons: After reciving this laptop I tried to turn it on and it didn't work. I then called HP which took me though 4 levels of managment , taking two weeks, only to tell me I had to talk to newegg. After many emails and phone calls they never got back to me. Now I have been waiting for months to get a broken laptop that I paid good money for replaced. May never buy a computer from newegg again.

Pros: good bat life .. fast . good price . good for the most part ..

Pros: I'm a computer science student. I wanted a computer that was portable yet powerful and reliable. I'm a power user, so i wanted a quad core on a budget. I've upgraded mine to 8gigs of ram and a ssd and its pretty fast and responsive. I also like the aesthetics, the brushed chrome sorta look and squarish. Pretty good keyboard with numpad for the price. Runs cool, quiet. Very easy to upgrade, back panel comes right off, no tools required or screws. Battery can last the schoolday if your on balanced battery setting (8 hours off and on use). I haven't killed the battery yet, but i'd estimate maybe 3-5 hours of average use.

Cons: Trackpad placement, you have to sorta hold your left hand up a bit because the bottom right of my palm would hit the trackpad. Still very useable if your sitting at the right height. Some flex on bottom right chassis, not a big issue but left side feels heavier and more solid. The drivers from HP aren't very well organized or clear on what does what. After i reformatted i just downloaded networking drivers until internet started working, then got ones that looked important. Speakers not great, not an issue for me i use headphones.

My main issue is with the wireless card, I've had problems at school. The building internet is flaky and unstable, but mine seems more unstable than other people with laptops around me. It also seems to have bad reception, sometimes it will fail to connect to wifi. Works alright in my house though.

Wish the lid locked when closed like my old hp, felt more secure when closed. Doesn't auto resume when lid opened.

Other Thoughts: If your looking for a portable laptop for schoolwork/office work this is a pretty solid choice. Great price, easy upgradability, full keyboard, quad core......its a workhorse. Other than some wifi issues (for which im not sure the laptop is completely to blame) I've been satisfied. If your looking for super performance/gaming look elsewhere, and be prepared to spend $250+ more (i recommend Sager brand for that).

Overall I've been pretty happy. I looked at laptops for almost 2 months before picking this one. It fits my needs, and at 500 bucks you'd be hard pressed to find something better. After about a month its still going strong, but we'll see if it stands the test of time.

Pros: not one

Cons: I am having key problems, the dash/underscore will not work nor will the question mark (yes, the dash works) and my QLB controller has been popping up as not working since day one. I can't navigate or get in touch with HP to fix the problem (downloaded driver did not fix it) and I wish I had never purchased this, much less through Newegg who won't help me with a refund. I will remember that when considering another purchase.

Pros: Sleek design, great price would have been great for medschool.

Cons: I have had battery problems with it ever since I got it. I had sent it to HP to be repaired but it was returned with the same problems.

Pros: Affordable, lightweight, clear display. Easy to install drivers if you do a from-scratch install of Windows.

Cons: Numerical keyboard makes typing off-center. Takes getting used to.

Other Thoughts: I bought this when my Thinkpad T61P started to die I wanted a replacement that wasn't necessarily an entry-level consumer-grade machine, and I wasn't attached to having a very high resolution display. I ordered this, along with a 4GB module to bump the memory up to 8GB. I wiped the factory install and found that it was a snap to install all the drivers using HP's automated driver setup utility.

After a couple of weeks, I went ahead and bought a second one for my wife - she loves it as well. The only complaint that either of us have so far is the numerical keypad makes the keyboard off-center. It takes a bit of adjusting to, and in the interim my typing looked like a 4 year old for a bit.

Pros: 1. Business models (ProBook) have better warranty than consumer models.
2. Warranty turnaround time was 3 days, express shipping prepaid both ways.
3. Sandy Bridge onboard graphics plenty fast enough, no need for separate graphics card.
4. 1-USB 3.0 port
5. Easy access to all internals via bottom panel which removes in 1 piece.
6. Runs cool.

Cons: 1. Had display problem (lines on screen) within 1st year.
2. Keyboard difficult to see in low light, backlit keys would be nice.
3. Battery latches are weak. One got jammed & was repaired by HP when the screen was replaced.
4. Could have made all ports USB 3.0 for no additional cost.
5. Wish battery had more capacity.

Deduct 1 star for minor Cons.

Other Thoughts: Have had this laptop for just about 1 year.
There are many different 4530s models. Mine is virtually the same except for a 320GB, 7200rpm hard drive & the WiFi is Altheros. CPU is i3-2310 vs i3-2550 (xu015ut vs a7k05ut)
HP is only installing the 7200 rpm drives in the i5's.
Be aware that this is probably a pre-close out because the Sandy Bridge is being superceded by the Ivy Bridge. Not a huge difference between the 2 architectures. This review is being written when the laptop is being sold for $419.99, a very good price for a very good laptop. No laptop is perfect.

Pros: This laptop is awesome, I currently have dual booted Mac OSX 10.7.4 and Windows 7 Ultimate.

Couple of things for people thinking about hackintoshing this laptop, you do need to buy a new wifi card that is Atheros based not realtek & it does take a little work upgrading to 10.7.4

(also I had a mac computer already, if your friends or you have one its much easier to get Lion on your laptop!)

instead of the realtek (which doesnt work for OSX)

Other Thoughts: Its faster than the XU015UT everyone hackintosh's and its cheaper too.

Pros: Excellent body, high quality keyboard, NUMPAD(!!!!!), VERY SILENT compared to laptops of 3+ years ago, light weight, runs like a dream with the RIGHT OS X.

Cons: Battery only lasts 3 hrs, Realtek wifi card does not work with OS X, screen is very average on MS Windows (but looks excellent on OS X)
