2 out of 5 eggsAvoid this model if you type for a living

Pros: Backlit keypad [so you can see which keys are skipping!], very light - one handed lifting, very clear screen for the size. If the keys were responsive so I didn't have to retype every other word and the battery lasted more than 3-4 hours, it would be exactly what I wanted. I guess HP assumes people hunt/peck, play games all day or only play on their email. Most frustrating money I ever spent

Cons: Keyboard skips constantly. Causing a touch typist to go back an rype [and retype, see what I mean?] every other word. I'm a writer and I got this to use on my lap or at conferences. Instead it's working me to death and has convinced me to save up for a certain famous fruit. I didn't buy an ultra-light to connect an external keyboard to it, but that's what I have to do in order to use it. Even pounding hard on the keypad I end up having to pay close attntion [there it is again] to every word I type to make sure evry single letter is there while these datted keys skip letters in almost every word. I've gone from nearly 100 words a minute to crawling.
The battery life is lousy, too. Yeah, turning off the backlit helps, but 4 hours max with simple typing [over and over again] and certainly not enough to take to a writer's convention. Yet the HP dv6 I own, while much heavier and 15.6" screen will last up to 9 hours with a removeable, replaceable upgrade battery, even while weighing more. I was hoping to go lighter with a similar machine. Instead I got a playtoy machine where I dn't want to type in the dark on the backlit because I can't create while 'm filling in all the skipped letters.
Touchpad spends all it's time zooming inand out if you even et near it [while retyping the skipped letters], but try getting the clicks to work without pounding

Other Thoughts: I notic other reviewers of machines in this series focus on fingerprints on the lid. Guess they play and don't use the keypad. If you are a writer, avoid this useless thing like the plague, save up, and buy a different brand with a working keyboard. This expensive doorstop has cured me of ever buying HP again. I used to love their machines, but I can't afford the loss of creativity where I'm not writing but retyping.

I get the impression that so many developers are enamored with touch screens or people who play games or hunt & peck on their email that they've forgotten the contingent of writers out there who actually bang out a living on their keyboards. And bang is what you'll have to do, over and over, to get a coherent sentence off this toy. The keys work but certainly don't accommodate a fast touch typist.
