5 out of 5 eggsDon't let reviews scare you!

Pros: Initially the reviews i read were negative for some reason and worried me a little about my choice. I'm glad i went against them because i love this laptop! The screen is massive which i love. It runs every game i throw at it with the highest settings with no problem. I can even stream a movie through to my xbox while rendering a high def video in vegas and playing FFXIV on the highest settings and not experience a moment of slow down. The heat pushes out the back instead of the bottom so i'm not worried about overheating. the color customization of the lights can be as simple or as elaborate as you choose! The keyboard is full and easy to access if you previously only used a desktop pc. It will turn heads wherever you use it! Everything but the HDD rates at a 7.0+ in windows 7.

Cons: Fingerprints on the laptop upon opening. Not expected when spending this much money on something of this caliber. The left mouse button seems to be a little depressed and not level/even with the right. The hard drive transfer rate is the lowest score rating on my windows 7 evaluation at a 5.9. Its very heavy and uncomfortable to be on your lap for too long. Must buy a special laptop bag to carry this since its so big.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely worth the money if you are looking to get something with enough bang for your buck. You may have buyers remorse like i did but it will disappear the moment its in your hands and you first turn it on.

3 out of 5 eggscust service not so great

Pros: Awesome look and feel, as far as I could get with it on one battery charge.

Cons: AC Adapter defective, so could only try it out for two hours before the initial charge was gone. I tried for hours to find a car adapter for it but apparently, they don't exist. It draws a lot of power. I may need to get a power inverter for it if I want to re-charge on the road. So, with it's large size and weight, it's not real portable, if that's what you need. I contacted cust serv about the adapter and they were not real helpful. I'd saved up for and waited to get this system and now I couldn't use it! I offered to drive to their warehouse to exchange adapters and they wouldn't do it. It took them over 24 hours to deteremine that they didn't have an adapter they could send to me in their warehouse and I would have to return the whole system for replacement. I again offered to drive to their warehouse to exchange the whole system then, but they refused this also. I had to ship it back to them.

Other Thoughts: I just got an email from them that they received my package, and they will process my replacement in the next 2 business days. Today is saturday and monday is MLK day. It's been 10 days already since I ordered, so maybe I'll see it by next Sat. I can't believe they couldn't simply send me a new power cord!!!

1 out of 5 eggsAlienware 18x Laptop

Pros: Newegg helpful for exchange, but takes up to 30 days

Cons: Alienware inop right from the box, where is their quality control. Xmas present gone bad :(

Other Thoughts: Wow for that price and no quality control, pretty sad for an elite piece of equipment :(

5 out of 5 eggsBest Laptop

Pros: The one thing I really like about this laptop is the keyboard. Since it has a 18.4 inch screen, the key board is full size, just like a desktop. I was very hesitant about getting a laptop, but I had to for work.

This is now my main PC, and I currently have 3. I used to be a solid "desktop only" type of person, but this thing is bad a$s.

I can have a million programs and windows running with this, no lag. The macro keys on the left of the key board are amazingly convenient. Too many to list.

I get compliments on this all the time, and I can take my gaming where ever I go. I also like how I can change the keyboard and side lights to whatever color I want. I like to change things up.

Cons: Cat likes to sleep behind it, which is kinda funny... but blocks the fans. Make sure to keep them away, lol.

Other Thoughts: I was also a little hesitant about the 2 gig quad processor, but I cannot tell a difference between my desktop which has a quad 3.3 gig processor. In fact, I actually believe it runs better than my desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsBonkers Machine, even for coders

Pros: For one if you want an 18", you don't care what people say about weight and battery life, you want to be productive now and not spend 10 hours at a Starbucks. If you had an M18X your work would be done by now.

Cons: -People feel inclined to tell you what they think of your AlienFX lighting totally unsolicited.
-Not a fan of the plastic face that looks like ducting on a Ferrari.
-Glare on the screen is nuts, but screen protectors will fix it.
-You'll have buyers remorse for about a week, then you will not want to use a desktop again.

Other Thoughts: Get the Orion bag, it is really comfortable and about the only bag that fits it.

I write a lot of HTML5/CSS3 with a lot of video and java for clients that prefer over the top to practical. Most other laptops I see, including Macs, tend to choke when running dev environments along with a lot of processor and graphics intense content in preproduction, bloated code.

I added the Force GT 120gb SSD and this machine LOVES it rated at 7.9 in W7.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice laptop

Pros: Performance is great. The prefect Desktop Replacement. Looks great. Handles everything I throw at it without issue. Incredible display.

Cons: The battery life is about 2 hours on power saver, which is to be expected of this level of machine. No blu-ray player in it for a laptop of this price is a bit of a downer, but not a huge issue if you don't intend to watch many movies on it. Also has a very reflective screen, so not ideal to use in bright sunlit areas.

Not really a Laptop you can hold on you lap for long. Aside from the weight, it can get pretty warm underneath.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a High Performance gaming laptop without that generic laptop look, then you have found the perfect buy. It is about $3-400 cheaper than buying this EXACT laptop with all the same specifications from the Dell website itself at the time of purchase. I would Highly recommend it to anyone who has the money to spare for it.

4 out of 5 eggsAlienware=Good, Dell= BAD

Pros: Huge screen, backlit keyboard (various colors), overall aesthetics, column of macro keys

Cons: bulky, heavy, prone to fingerprints, cost

Other Thoughts: Alienware was good before Dell bought them out - I have had a few and the reason why I have an M18 is because my M17 was a complete lemon. It is no secret you can acquire a laptop with everything an AW has for a lot less money, but you WILL NOT find one with the aesthetics. AW has THE BEST looking laptops on the planet hands down and that is why people buy them. If you have the money to burn, then I suggest getting one, but if you're on a budget and don't care about looks, buy an Asus or Clevo. Spend the extra money and get one with SLi or Xfire configuration. Cannot go wrong with i7 CPUs.
