5 out of 5 eggsIT'S A BEAST

Pros: This thing is a monster, I am personally glad I bought this one instead of the one with the i7, even though this is a 2nd gen i5, it's still a ton of processing power. And it uses less energy, It's absolutely demolished every game i've tried to play on it, whenever I select "run at optimal settings" on a video game, it runs and ultra, or the maximum best setting. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Rather expensive for the specs and hardware, but I would pay $400 Extra for the beastly case and changeable LED's.

Cons: Battery Life not so amazing, I get like One hour and Thirty minutes when its not plugged up. Wouldn't recommend getting it for sole purpose of school work. Really heavy, like 6-7 pounds. And It could have a little more RAM.

Other Thoughts: I LOVE IT.

5 out of 5 eggs8 months strong

Pros: Great machine. The i5 runs cooler than the i7 so it won't burn you up as much. If I need the power of an i7, I'll use my desktop. The i5 will give you slightly better battery life as well with almost zero change in benchmark performance on gaming. FX software is great, allowing you to change lighting colors in multiple zones.

Cons: Slightly heavy, but I knew that going in. Regardless of what people say, it does show fingerprints, especially if your hands are slightly greasy from a snack. My Toshiba satellite never showed fingerprints but it can't hold a torch to this machine in terms of performance and build quality. Newer BIOS flashes force SATAII speeds for the hard drive, even though they advertise SATAIII. People do get work arounds on the forums to still use SATAIII but there are some stability issues and blue screens. SATAII on a good SSD is still incredibly fast though.

Other Thoughts: I get great battery life. I put a low wattage Plextor SATAIII SSD in, with Corsair Dominator ram (8GB). I get about 5-6 hours of batter life with normal usage (browsing, iTunes, etc.) Gaming is obviously shorter but you can choose what video card to use if you need more battery life. I've updated mine to the latest BIOS (A08) which helped with stability on my SSD and fan control. The fan is quieter now, but the machine still runs fairly cool. I still don't think you can buy a better 14" laptop now. This machine is simply amazing, and it always works perfect for me.

4 out of 5 eggsknow what you are buying

Pros: m14x has great specs overall. both i5, i7 processors are strong enough to run most tasks with ease.
The Nvidia gt555m, even though it is not on par with higher-end gtx series, still offers adequate frames in most demanding modern games. You can also overclock it to juice out more performace(12,500 in 3Dmark06 with stock clock vs 15,100 with 750/1100 OC).
The rubberized body is resilient to fingerprints and light scratches. It also adds a luxurious touch to the overall design of the laptop.
I also really like the AlienFX lights.

Cons: As some of the reviewers have mentioned, it does get warm compared to other alienwares.
Unlike other bigger alienware laptops which has two fans each dedicated to the cpu and the gpu, the m14x only have one fan to cool both chips.
This in return causes the unit to heat up faster and warmer so the fan has to work extra hard to maintain the temperature.
It can really be annoying to hear fan coming on and off every 5 or so mintue when all I'm doing is web browsing. And trust me, this fan isn't the most quietest fan either.

Other Thoughts: I like the m14x. But also think it lacks the identity compared to other Alienware line ups.
It isn't as performance driven and customizable as the m17x or the m18x. And the m11x is much more quiet and portable.
However, that doesn't mean the m14x isn't a great product. It is a hybrid which offers bit of both performance and portability.
If only Dell can improve on some of it's flaws in the revised version, I would gladly give it a 5 star review.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad, could be better

Pros: Powerful enough to run modern games at medium/high settings.
Good battery life if switched to low power mode.
Beautiful chassis.
Not as heavy as one might expect (little over 7 pounds)

Cons: Becomes very hot during intense gaming when not used in conjunction with a cooler.
Price is too expensive for what's being offered.

Other Thoughts: I've used it for a couple months now, I've enjoyed the use of the product. There are better bargains out the to be sure such as cyber power pc but you pay for the name and it does perform well. Recommend buying it through dell.

5 out of 5 eggswow bokutox

Pros: good gaming

Cons: sorta bad battery life only 3+

Other Thoughts: wow bokutox..... i understand your fustration but im just here to try to give this laptop a fair review. This thing does not weigh 13lbs+

ur complaining about an m14x because of its weight, and u plan on getting an m17x r3???? makes no sense man.

Your keyboard problems are a specific case, noone should really pay attention to it.

i suggest that if you want to buy this laptop, which is excellent for gaming, buy it from dell/aw directly and not on newegg where you cant haggle. i managed to get about 100$ off of mine.

1 out of 5 eggsUNSTATISFIED.

Pros: Absolutely nothing. read the CONS

Cons: Got my M14x, opend it out of the box. charged it for 12 hrs (Computer was OFF) Started it up the next day.

Got to the creat a user account and every time i hit the SPACE BAR ii would get 6 different keys,

(Hit Space Bar ) - these keys would pop up /k;rq

After hitting the space bar 3 times, the computer would restart. and restart. and restart...

The slightest tap on the keyboard would send the computer into a restart mode.

So dissapointed. Going to get the m17x R3.

Dont buy unless you want to take a chance.

Other Thoughts: Though it was a 14" laptop.. this thing was HEAVY.. like 13+ lbs heavy.
