3 out of 5 eggsNot bad, not great

Pros: Solid machine for cheap. I just needed something to replace my old Pentium III Dell laptop I use in a network testing role that's getting a bit dated. Considered a netbook, but this is a considerably more powerful machine, with a bigger screen, more RAM, and cheaper.

For my purposes, it's perfect. For others who are looking for a machine that can do basic web browsing, word processing, spreadsheets, etc. on a budget, it's a good deal. Don't expect a brand new machine though, this is off lease and has been used by someone else for 3 years. That's why it's so cheap.

Cons: You're getting an off-lease machine that's somewhere around 3 years old, so don't expect perfection. How well the prior owner took care of it will depend on how good of shape it's in. Mine, I've seen worse, but it wasn't taken care of as well as I take care of my machines. It's scratched up on the top and bottom. Has no wear that affects functionality.

Whoever refurbs them also did a poor job of cleaning on the one I got. Refurbs should basically just have a hardware check done to ensure functionality, be cleaned, and have the drive loaded with a fresh imaged Windows install. I had this job myself early in my career for a few months, 15 years ago.

The system is fine hardware and image load wise, but the cleaning left a LOT to be desired. It was FILTHY. Just taking it out of the box, opening the lid and turning it on, I felt like I needed a shower. Gross machine, the first thing I had to do was thoroughly clean it. Now that it's nice and clean, overall I'm satisfied with the syst

Other Thoughts: Newegg should demand better quality control from whatever company refurbishes these machines, to ensure the customer is getting a properly refurbished machine, not one that makes you feel filthy just touching it.
