Dell XPS 14 ultrabooks offer a level of multimedia performance that many notebooks cannot match. The 14-inch screen has 1,600 x 900 pixel resolution, and the LED display brightens so on-screen colors remain vivid even in brightly-lit environments. The screens are composed of Corning Gorilla Glass for added protection from scratches, wear and tear.

The two Waves MaxxAudio speakers produce sound quality that rivals comparable professional audio equipment. These Dell ultrabooks speakers are located under the touchpad, so sound is directed toward the listener.

The XPS 14 line of notebooks has powerful battery life, so you can use the computers all day without having to recharge. A fully charged battery lasts over seven hours, making it optimal for users who don't always have access to outlets.

5 out of 5 eggsxps 14

Pros: -battery life is outstanding. i can watch movies non stop for 5 hours. just regular use on and off it lasts all day on a single charge.

-pretty fast in daily operations. pretty much everything comes up instantly and closes instantly. no hiccups.

-loud sound with good quality for a laptop

-aesthetically pleasing with the aluminum finish

-very thin

-very good picture on the display

- can run games on low to medium settings, doesnt get too loud, but you can hear a little noise from the fan as expected

Cons: - 2 usb ports, neither are on the mouse side of the computer

-32 gb ssd cache shows to only be 8 gb on my partition manager

Other Thoughts: i originally planned to reformat it and install windows on the ssd cache but that plan was squashed when the cache was only 8gb. buying an ssd for it now which will give even better battery life and make it a little lighter. overall still a very good laptop. I would recommend it to someone looking for great battery life with a decent screen size and sound.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Same as before

Cons: This laptop is garbage, confirmed by Dell directly this model and the 15 inch version have BAD wifi cards. Dell is offering to ship out an UGLY HUGE wifi usb dongle that takes up one of my available 2 slots, that was before disconnecting my call after being on hold for 3 hours. Company garbage laptop garbage. Why is Newegg selling a laptop that has KNOWN issues that prevent it from functioning?! Newegg offers not option to return just replace, which is rediculous because replacing it would mean receiving another laptop with known issues. Google or search Dell's website youll see what I mean

Other Thoughts: The other reviewer is obviously Dell, giving it that many starts? not a confirmed owner also nice try Dell

5 out of 5 eggsSurprised

Pros: -Boots up quick (less than 15 sec) with the mini ssd
-GT 630m gives more of a kick than I had expected, running low fps games like wow & lol at medium to high settings and high fps games like cod:mw at low to medium settings
-Very good horizontal viewing angles
-hdmi (can't use a 14 inch to play the competitive parts of games)

Cons: -Fan can be a little loud sometimes, only during gaming, but who games without headphones.
-Vertical viewing angles get pretty bad after about 20 degrees below eye level and discolored at about 30 to 40 degrees above eye level
-2 usb ports, personally i believe 3 should be a standard, 2 for peripherals and 1 for storage/cooling devices. would help sell more accessories for a cheap extra 2.0 port. gotta get a hub to power my cooler and inferno ecig at the same time.

Other Thoughts: Installed a 120gb munshkin mini ssd w/ the 500gb for storage & upgraded to a 8gb stick of ram. Runs like a champ, plays wow at medium/high settings at 45+ fps & LoL at medium at 60fps. Apps are quick to boot and whatnot. The cons aren't really significant. Headphones cancel out fan noise, considering its on a hinge don't think vertical viewing angles matter when all it takes is a slight push back and bam good to go. the USB port is really my only con but atm I'm not using any more ports than I need. Had a lenovo y570 during my time in afghanistan and functionality wise after i reimaged it and had it setup the way I wanted, it blows the y570 out of the picture.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate More Dissapointment

Pros: No Pros to go over here, same situation as previously posted.
Check my other review

Cons: After literally, and this is no exaggeration 8+ hours of tech support calls, transfers/returned calls, driver updates, bios updates reformatting etc. Dell FINALLY confesses to me this is a KNOWN issues with ALL XPS 14 Ultrabooks and has been for months. Newegg WHY are you selling a known defective product to customers?

The ONLY option I was given was to either accept a USB Wireless N dongle to take up 1 of my only 2 available USB ports, or to WAIT for an ETA for a fix?! Not even wait for a fix WAIT for an ETA for a fix. I will be returning this laptop to Dell first thing Monday as this has been an absolute nightmare.

I did ask Dell if they would be willing to replace the wifi card as I did some research about this issue and other laptops with the same intel card is having similar issues, but they report back "intel has determined that is not the solution". Sounds like Intel is covering up for bad PR. I am close to buying another wifi card just to see if that fixes and will report back here.

Other Thoughts: It REALLY is a shame because other than the wifi issue, this would have received a 4-5 Egg from me due to build quality etc. How could Dell MISS something THIS simple (wifi functionality) all this work and NO testing/quality control? I could understand if it was a slight issue with an ETA for a fix but Wifi that drops constantly and has NOT been fixed for 5+ months?!

1 out of 5 eggsHigh Hopes, BIG dissapointment

Pros: Build Quality
3rd Generation Ivy Bridge i5
Amazing GT 630m gaming/graphic performance blew me away
Sleek look and great backlit keyboard
This laptop had SUCH promise! (See below)

Cons: Wifi that does NOT work (Reason for 1 Egg)
5400 RPM Hard drive? Is this 2001?
HD screen that has great resolution but not so great viewing angles
Absolutely horrible support (literally 4+ hours on phone/rudeness)

Sadly I was needing this laptop before a flight for business and had I known Newegg return policy would dictate sending this laptop out and waiting at least 7-10 business days I would have bought this in stores. Newegg PLEASE consider giving some sort of advanced replacement option even if it means doing credit card holds which I would have been fine with. Some people make a living with your products and it doesn't convince me to chose your company as our next supplier of 500+ laptop orders.

Other Thoughts: What can I say Dell. Watching numerous reviews, reading countless articles on this product. I had very high hopes for you, and what did you do? After years and years of avoiding you like the plague? You reminded me in a whole new way why I hated you and your products. If you are thinking of buying this, steer clear, no seriously, stay away.

Not only was your product NOT functional (wifi issues) but this is a known issue online just google and see what I am talking about. the only known "fix" for now is for Dell to send you a dongle, or have someone come out and replace half of the laptop, but NO option for replacement? Dell... do I REALLY need to explain why that is a BIG no no? If this machine HAD functional wifi abilities I would have given it a 4-5 because the screen I can deal with and it IS a nice screen as long as the viewing angle is right. However NO wifi, makes this laptop useless to me, or most people.

It's sad too because all I needed was decent service, and basic functionality and you failed. Such promise Dell.... such promise....
