1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: none just none.

Cons: Just junk.

In the first month.
One replacement Laptop for video issues.

Replacement Laptop won't switch video cards properly DELL response is Working As Intended.

Second Month

One Replacement HDD for the replacement Laptop

Not to mention the battery lasting less than hour under a heavy load. A nominal load will get you maybe 2.5 hours.

Other Thoughts: I would NEVER buy another DELL product.

I'm trying to think of something good to say here but I can't

I should have returned it instead I waited for three weeks while DELL tried to figure this out. In that three weeks my return option expired... I mention this to DELL and they barely apologized and started to put the blame onto me....

Never again DELL.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Workhorse of a laptop

Pros: Incredible specs! Super fast CPU, Memory, and the graphics are great. You just gotta mess around with the ATI Switchable settings a little, then you'll be fine. I was able to update both Intel and AMD drivers to the latest with no problem. You can configure it to not require the FN key to use muli-media buttons. Touchpad settings are nice, a driver update lets you right-click with 2 finger tap. Silent touchpad buttons too! I was surprised when I checked the warranty with Dell. It has almost 2-years left of warranty and Dell complete care too! (accidental damage is covered!) Bonus! It just needs an SSD.

Windows Experience Index:
CPU - 7.7
Memory - 7.8
Graphics - 5.3 (using Intel)
Gaming Graphics - 6.7 (with AMD 7730)
Hard drive - 5.9 (8.1 after upgrade to Sandisk Ultra Plus SSD)

Cons: Heavy. Slow 5400RPM hard drive.

Other Thoughts: This may be the best medium-quality gaming / multi-media laptop for the price. With a $160 240-256GB SATA 3 SSD and a $40 Blu-Ray drive, this thing is awesome and still under $1000! That is a hard to find with this combination of specs. 1080P LCD is beautiful, backlit keyboard has bright, dim, and off setting. Nice feel to the case. Silent touchpad buttons which is a great benefit for gaming in bed with spouse next to you.

2 out of 5 eggsDell Special Lemon Edition

Pros: Lovely Full HD SCREEN
Dells website does have Windows 7 driver support
Intels I7 is crisp, nice lighted keyboard
Looks good feels sturdy

Cons: Cons are many. And i will list them in ,other thoughts, but in this particular Cons paragraph its all about the awful awful Windows 8 ,long story short ,i wiped it...but to put windows 7 on ,you need to change the way the os talks to the bios.Windows 8 starts faster from a cold boot because its never off but you need to enable legacy boot in bios and its simple but takes much more time and hassle than the simple windows 7 way.You also must add sp1 before you start with the Dell drivers.Several hours and hot fixes ect and you have a
real os not a touchscreen phone toy one

Other Thoughts: Many..
1 The cd tray is flimsy and feels so cheap that i expect it to fall apart in time.
2 You cant disable the hd4000 from running and using system memory. The hd 7730 only runs on demand 3d only. Its like you never even have a discreet graphics card and your WEI score reflects this with a very poor 5.7 graphics and a even poorer 6.6 gaming(i had 6.7 with a hd 5650).
3 The western digital 750 blue hard disk is a 5400rpm spin and just slows the laptop to a crawl.(I just need to replace this cost cutter..thanks for nothing dell)
4 You may or may not have the daughterboard to add a msata for a sata 2.0 boot or cache drive ,tho you will have to take apart the laptop down to the bare motherboard to install(can you say warranty void lol)
5 This laptop does have its good points with a gorgeous screen and powerful cpu and lower detail gaming plus the sound is almost as good as Beats audio even without a sub.
6 imho you can find a better choice than this but it does turn heads when they compare their mainstream laptop to this.

1 out of 5 eggsLemon

Pros: Backlit keyboard & it's entire spec. roster!

Cons: Flimsy optic tray. It will stay on your desk b/c battery life is very low.
Gets very hot quickly, mine died after only 16hours of use, (total system failure.) I tried tuning down all the system settings (power saver).
It just over clocks itself.

Other Thoughts: It may just be too much goodness to hope for in portability, but thanks for pushing the envelope DELL.

FYI, NEWEGG customer service was very helpful.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a good choice

Pros: Beautiful Dell full hdmi screen

Cons: Hard drive is the slowest 5400 speed i have seen in the past 5 years.Lid is somewhat flimsy.Windows 8 is horrible.Laptop is heavy without being sturdy. There are much better choices.Read other thoughts. An easy way to find out how buggy a laptop is ,is by how many bios updates ..well this baby has had 5 updates in a matter of months

Other Thoughts: Switchable graphics between the amd 7730m & intel hd 4000 are badly implemented and Dell has no fix.The only way i could tell that the 7730 is running 3d is by manually comparing framerates between hd 5650 on another laptop and this one.Cpu-z ,DX11 and all other benchmarks only report the intel as the intel is always in use and the 7730 is only used when extra rates in a 3d game is needed. This really trashes ur wei score as well.try a 5.4 graphics & 6.8 gaming this is lousy.Windows 8 is trash and dell makes it not easy to make a backup disc, failing several times to even see the flash drive to backup on.

1 out of 5 eggsBroke 12 days after I could RMA it

Pros: The stats look nice and when it's working it's fine.

Cons: Well the wifi keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes. The video card errored out so that's kind of negative. One of the USB devices also failed so that's not really great and the battery only lasts a robust 90 minutes. So if you like having a desktop that masquerades as a notebook it's cool.

Other Thoughts: Worst tech purchase I have made in a very long time. Buy this and prepare to be sad.

2 out of 5 eggsWhat's good is good and what's bad is really bad

Pros: For the price this seems like a pretty great buy. You get the memory, drive space and i7 performance as well as a solid screen and decent keyboard. When it's working you'll be pretty happy.

Cons: The battery life is abysmal. I don't mean bad I mean suck, suckity, suck, suck, suck. I got in a 9:00 by 10:30 I was at 7%. That's just email, web and SSMS.

The wifi adapter can't lose connectivity and need to be reset fast enough. The phrase "The default gateway is not available" will become the bane of your Wifi existence. Yes I turned off the Wifi adapter sleep function, yes I updated the drivers and no I still can't stay connected. Also the video card is now having Error 43... wait so is the USB. Actually screw this piece of trash I want to ship it back and buy something good.

Other Thoughts: What a piece of garbage.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop

Pros: This is a awesome laptop, I wiped the hd and installed OpenSuse 12.2. Everything works flawlessly. I left aside 200gb for a Windows 7 partition that Ill install sometime soon but Linux is the main os here.

The hardware is solid so far and everything is working great with Linux

Cons: Windows 8, it really sucks. I checked it out for a few minutes before I wiped the hd and its a huge step backwards from Windows 7 I think.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Ubuntu 12.10

Pros: * Works out of the box with Ubuntu 12.10 86_64, including EFI install
* No proprietary WiFi drivers (uses iwlwifi driver)
* Open-source ATI driver is good enough, full 1080 resolution
* Standby works, brightness keys work, volume, backlit keyboard, etc.
* Everything "just works" on Ubuntu 12.10

Cons: * Battery life could be better, it's around 3-4 hours.
* Have to restart Xserver to switch between Intel and AMD graphics...
