5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: -VERY solid brushed metal build quality
-Great touchpad
-Dell touchpad/power utilities are great and add some great functionality to the Windows 8 gestures
-Nice and light/portable
-Awesome price (got for $320)

Cons: -Lots of included Dell bloatware
-Wish it was Haswell, battery life could be a little better, but easily lasts me 4+ hours

Other Thoughts: I purchased this for schoolwork use during class. Don't expect to do any sort of gaming on this, but if you just need a nice solid quality laptop for internet/typing/casual use, this one is wonderful.

If you have the knowledge/time to wipe/reformat the laptop, do it. There is a lot of Dell bloatware.

When reformatting BE SURE to set up Intel Smart Response to allow SSD caching and jump through some other hoops to get everything working as it should. Just be sure to do your research and to grab the appropriate drivers.

If you don't plan on wiping the laptop/reformatting, the bloatware can just be uninstalled, but I personally like starting 100% fresh with any machine I buy.

I am very satisfied with my purchase, and I would recommend this laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Great Price / Decent performance / Thin and portable

Cons: A couple little scratches on the top. Had to remove a bit of bloatware to improve performance.

Other Thoughts: Great affordable machine for surfing and photo editing. After cleaning up the bloatware boots to Win 8 password screen in 25 seconds. Up and running in 30 seconds. WEI graphics score only 4.9 (all other scores quite a bit higher)so I assume it wont be a great gamer. The I3 powers through tasks well. I am always happy when I get a good refurb. Great Value !!

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Small, light weight, boots quickly. Great price, but not worth it.

Cons: First of all no USB 3.0 or SD card slots, or lighted keyboard. I should have researched better.
Windows 8 truly is a step backwards.
No owner's manual. What are the 3 funky buttons above the keyboard?
Video died after 40 days, and unit returned for repair.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat ultrabook

Pros: handsome
great screen

Cons: no backlit keyboard

Other Thoughts: This would be a 5-star ultrabook except for the fact that there is no backlit keyboard option. For reasons known only to Dell, that option is only available on their 15" Inspirons. As far as I am concerned, "ultra" means the best of everything. Excpet for that oversight, this is a great, cost-effective ultrabook: good looking, lightweight, and super-fast with even the basic i3 processor. And I absolutely love the feel of the chiclet-style keyboard.

Dell has really streamlined their Inspiron line with the "z" line of books. At the sale prices, and with other promotions, this turns out to be a great buy and great value.
